In case it's not been posted yet, the Gamestar MP preview(German): www.gamestar.de/spiele/mass-effect-3/artikel/mass_effect_3,45851,2561546.html

Is that a new pic I see?

http://www.gamestar.....cfm?pk=2257978

That's not all, I see a new gun in the Ceberus trooper's hand. Looks like a new SMG, similar to, but different from, the Locust...

EDIT:
And it has "H2" written on it. Definitely a new gun, then.

The second review said we'd face collectors on certain maps??  Can't see that being true either.  And the third one I read (think it was IGN) the guy said his soldier had adrenaline rush, but i'm pretty positive I saw a dev say that there were no time dilation effects in the MP..

Yeah, it does seem a tad unlikely that we'll be seeing Collectors... As for Adrenaline Rush, it's possible that it's a MP variation of the power that - for example - simply gives a damage and/or boost to your shooting speed, minus any time dilation.

Edit:

Ha, missed that. It does look a bit like a shorter version of the Locust.

Of course that's the general reaction. If it was BioWare's intent to attract pure shooter fans to the ME series by adding multiplayer, even I could've told them it wouldn't work. It'd have to compete with the multiplayer modes of MW3 or BF3, those games are basically played for multiplayer only, ME just can't compete with that, and shouldn't want to either. I think multiplayer will help for replay value and provide an alternate way of reaching a 'good' or 'perfect' ending - a nice addition for those already intending to get the game - but it won't attract a new bunch of players.

Yep, I pretty much agree with that. I think this simply adds an additional facet to the game, one that provides some very light and occasional entertainment which can benefit us in the main single-player campaign. If they did think this was going to attract a ton of people solely for the MP side of things...no. I don't think so if all that it is amounts to a survival mode. If you take it for what it is, though, then you can have some extra fun with friends every so often (or by yourself). Since I do enjoy multiplayer games, I'll likely try it out, but my primary interest is the single-player campaign.

Heh?

Where did you get that?

You can play any class with every race.

one of the articles said each class has only 2 races to choose from and the asari was one of the adept options. id love to play an adept, i just dont care to play an adept as an asari. that wouldnt make sense since krogan, drell, human and asari are all potential biotics.

nobody else read that?

also, does anyone know if humans ALL WEAR HELMETS?

oops i saw the replies after i posted this. id still like to know about the humans in helmets thing tho!

I run a small swedish gaming blog but yesterday I got the chance to play the multiplayer in ME3 myself. I usually really dislike multiplayer games and modes and was very sceptical to its inclusion in my favorite game series, Mass Effect. However, after trying it out I must say that I am in love. It has so much Mass Effect feeling and the powers and shields, barriers and objectives makes for a highly strategic but high tempo game. I like these shooter mechanics way more than those in Gears 3 for instance. But that's just my opinion.

So anyways, this is the first time I've fallen in love with a multiplayer mode. So the jaded gamers at IGN etc. might feel it is mediocre. For me, it is the only multiplayer game I'm willing to play. So let them have their Call of Dutys and Battlefields.

I'm in love with this.

PS. I played as a female human adept. Singularity and warp as main powers. Would have gotten pull aswell, but the user I was playing as was at level 1 and couldn't access it yet. DS.

Keep in mind there are also Vanguards and Sentinals that are biotics but not adepts.  Even Soldier's have some biotic abilities.

I suppose its worth noting that many of the die hard ME gamers aren't those that generally play GOW or COD and thus, this MP for ME may be refreshing. Just for arguments sakes!

no way that each race can be each class. Theres no Krogan- biotics (at least not so many), and i don`t remember Quarian or Geth used biotic power

even human biotic which will have enough power to hit somebody is a rarity

He's saying that the restriction on biotic is not so apparent when you look at other biotic classes like sentinel, vanguard etc.

But there is a reason they don't play it in the first place. From what I've read, they are not and cant offer something as well crafted and complete as Gear of Wars and COD. So you get a boring coop mode that really isn't all that fun in the end.

Waste of ressource and time.

what? I used to play COD2 and COD:UO multiplayer practically all the time a few years back; how does being a fan of one game exclude you from being a fan of the other?

wrex is a biotic. i think all krogans are born with biotic potential.

quarian and geth arent in MP so who friggin cares.

adept shepard is better then any other biotic in game, other then harbinger.

New or not, I haven't seen that 'shot before. And I do like that armour... B)

It just looks like a retexture of the one the cerberus people are wearing.

To be fair, Quarians don't fight alongside other species much. They usually stick to their own, don't they?

You can play as a human Adept. I did it myself. Female or male. Or an asari if you like.

Pretty much every living thing can become a biotic, but unless you are an asari (who's entire ecosystem revolved around element zero) you cannot become a biotic without being exposed to element zero.

From a lore perspective it makes sense to limit biotics, but I can see how it would be silly from a gameplay perspective.

I found the mode more fun than Gears horde mode, due to the variation created by having a team with different powers. Also, the simple objective based system made it so that you never got stuck in one area of the map but instead had to progress through the map. But that's me.

If we are going by lore, the drell wouldn't even be fighting in the front line. Not only is their population within the hundred thousands (while the quarians number in millions) but from what we are told drell that fight are trained in infiltration and assasination.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact I can play a drell but not being able to play a quarian irks me. I love engineer style classes, but I don't want to play a salarian. (I guess i'll play human if they have it)

Not necessarily.

If it benefits them, I'm sure they'll help. Like any other race would.

sigh* You Fail Logic Forever.

A development team does not have limitless resources. Resources for any facet of a game mean resources not applied to another facet. Whether you think MP is a good idea or not, money devoted to hiring its developers is money not devoted to developing levels/characters/mechanics for the single-player. Can there be "force-multiplier" design, such as levels that can be shared between the single-player and multiplayer sections? Sure. But dollars are dollars, and no game budget is infinite. Look, just watch some Extra Credits episodes on game development. You'll get the idea.

As for the previews themselves...this is bad, bad news. It's one thing to be anti-multiplayer (which, full disclosure, I am), but it's another thing to watch the comments roll in and watch ME3's future Metacritic rating take a hit. Reviewers do mark down games for multiplayer that doesn't measure up, even if the SP is top of the class. I've seen reviews state this openly. I imagine most of you have too. This does not bode well. I'd rather no MP at all (especially since I'm a 360 owner who refuses to buy Gold), but if it has to be there, it has to be excellent. I'm actually a little stunned that Bioware didn't see this coming.

More likely scenario:

Mass Effect 3 sans multiplayer gets a budget of X dollars

The decision is made to add multiplayer.

Mass Effect 3 gets a budget of X plus Y dollars

*sigh*^2

This is a marketing decision. If Y dollars exist, they can be applied to X. A decision was made to apply Y dollars to multiplayer. They did not go to single-player. This is not rocket science. You can agree with the decision or not, but this is blindingly simple math.

Pattonesque wrote...

Of course we could go with WOE AND DOOM AND GLOOM AND NERD TEARS AND CANCEL MY PREORDER BIOWARE

And of course we can go HA HA WATCH ME TROLL by the same measure. BTW, I've pre-ordered the Collector's Edition. If i'm sufficiently unhappy with what MP does to 3 I'll sell it, but I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.
