The only reason I could see not adding Salarian or Turian females would be: Do they even look different enough from each other for a human to tell?

Knowing EA they most likely locked the female models of the other races to sell as DLC alongside an overpriced map pack. Image IPB

Yeah... and... I... would... so totally buy it too, ugh. Dammit. =]

Well if they don't then it's even easier to make. According to "Mass Effect: Evolution", though, turian females do indeed appear differently, but then, the general fan reaction to that design was... less than stellar.

Well, almost all salarians are male, and the few females hold high-ranking positions in their society.

Your argument works both ways, though: if they pretty much look the same, why not include 'em?

That's what I'm saying though. I mean, couldn't they just make a female turian voice on a turian model and say "Hey, yeah, that's a turian female. Humans just can't tell them apart. Not enough sexual dimorphism."?

If they did that, I'd be okay with it.

But as of yet, we have not seen or heard from any turian ladies in the game.

Oh, one was in a comic? I didn't know.

What do female turians look like?

Aren't they supposed to have fringe?

Hence the rage.

Constant exposure to high levels of solar radiation would imply that being bald is kind of a bad idea.  Turians evolved that metallic plating specifically for protection against Palaven's merciless sun.

Also, in ME2, Garrus makes it clear that a Turian woman's fringe is something you complement, and at the bachelor party on Illum, the Turian says Asari look like Turian women because they also have fringe.

Yee-up.

Then again, Dark Horse has issues with rendering aliens.  They've gotten better lately, but...

Where are the turian ladies?!!

Any who, now that that's out.. thanks Isaac for keeping the OP up-to-date, I reckon a lot of the reviews don't realise that ME is and always has been a single-player experience with MP adding an extra side experience that isn't intended to replace the normal game. But at least there's multiple opinions on the subject to read through.

I think I'm most worried about the repetition people are talking about in the articles. I enjoy mass effect for the gameplay (in fact, in my speed runs of ME2 I just hold the X button down to skip all the talking and getting right into the action...don't start berating me for doing this, BSN, I've played the game for the story - but after the 10th time, the story gets a little boring).

Anyway, it seems the articles are worried the gameplay may be a bit too repetitive and I was wondering what Bioware could possibly do to keep things interesting. Of course, CoD and BF3 are going to be constant - those are shooter games. People expect that. I was thinking..maybe if they had a mission where you could rescue someone important in the game. Not someone like Aria, but maybe a leader of a squad from the STG. I would love to see MP succeed and I'm a little skeptical about it after reading the reviews.

Maybe there should also be all-out war? Maybe have 12 or 16 people playing at one time. All on the same side of course, but maybe have a MASSIVE battlefield and have 3 or 4 squads respectively and a squad leader in each, where you just fight incoming cerberus, husks, geth, Atlas mechs, etc. Having more people playing at one time could also increase the replability.

And you assume that the skin covering the skull isn't protective why?  It's not like turians in general don't have smooth-looking patches of skin elsewhere.  Besides which, the long "plumes" are clearly more decorative than functional.  They don't even properly cover the entire skull.

fringe, n.

2. a. Anything resembling this; a border or edging, esp. one that is broken or serrated.

Notice how they have a serrated edge around their face?  That's a fringe.

I believe it was said that they had heavy metals in their skin, not just fringe plates.

The scientific reasoning is shaky at best but it can be ASSUMED from certain dialogue with Garrus that females look different than the way they have been portrayed in the comics.

And if it's so darn complicated why not just slap a female VO onto a male body and be done with it. It's really not hard.

Not saying epic fringe is necessary (in fact, I support the theory that the long fringes are akin to a peacock's tail--LOOK AT ME, LADIES ~ <3).  A very short one or at least some plating would suffice.  You want the parts most exposed to the sun to be the most protected.  And the top of the head is one of those parts.

I think RPS pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one. I stand by my opinion that it is a great idea that should have been given it's own spin off game.

Hell if the Montreal team developed said game from the time MP was greenlit then, with some extra resources post ME3, it could have been out as early as winter '12/early '13.

Still, as a mindless fun added extra this still has potential. My three hopes now are:

1) Somewhat detailed character customisation. I don't think any of us are expecting the same degree as SP, but a variety of options here would be a huge benefit towards keeping me interested in the mode in the long term.
2) That they manage to throw in a few more interesting challenges before release. Computer hacking and king of the hill style situations were mentioned but having some interesting set pieces could help freshen the endless combat up, give players more to focus on, and ultimately play to the strengths mentioned in regard to the tactics required to beat the (rather uncreatively named) Brutes and Banshee type enemies.
3) Splitscreen!

This.

Or just throw on some eyelashes if so needed.

Whatever it takes.
