As I said that was all before the incident with the toddler, popular anger and the government seeing its chance to crack down on the middile class who it has seen as a problem in recent years has allowed it to be an easy scape goat.

China also has a history of the PLA carrying out its will without question. Resentment of the Middle class has long been building in China, and its distrust from the Government as well. In short the Death of a Toddler in which bystands passed by minus one what amounts to a hobo has served as a dual edged spark, it has given rise to public anger, and calls for nationalism, and a New Red Revolution, and it has allowed the Communist Party more younger nationalistic members considerably more sway against the old Guard, leading to some radical changes.

Also the middle class support of ties with the US is NOT popular with the average party member and citizen, China has a growing middle class but the split in rich to poor is worse than it is in the US.The middle class will have to tread carefully, in any case the power resides as it always has in China.

With the Army, and the bureaucracy. And flaunting wealth doesn't do much good if I have an infantryman ready to shoot you, and 20 civilians who out right hate you standing back waiting to rip you apart.

Keep in mind unlike the UK or the US, China has traditionally in all forms counted on public support and wide spread Martial force to bring a situation to a halt.

As to cars, yeah its helping GM stay afloat, GM South Korea. So no funds went to the US branch which is solely alive now thanks to government ownership, the SK branch is purely under South Korean controll, who is moving to closer releations with China, over public anger at the US, and its own strong at home communist movements. Besides its political masters recon China has better control over the North Koreans than the Americans, whom many South Koreans fear will only start a war, which will reduce Soule to ash no matter how well played.

Hyundai is also a big leader among others, once more This is to China's benafit, with its own production models built in the homeland, or regional neighbors. The one Exception to this is Germany with the VW, though Germany and China have had close relations in terms of machinery from the days of the Kaiser. Alos they do have there own production models from domestic lines. We live in a global economy thus not everything is at it seems.

Also piracy and knock offs is a GLOBAL problem not meerly Chineses.

I hate to see Nintendo be demolished like what we saw with Sega and the Dreamcast system. We saw Sonic the Hedgehog switch platforms. I'd hate to see Zelda or Mario switch to Playstation or Xbox because those titles are the reason Nintendo is still alive.

Ken, careful not to delve too much into political discussion. Having this topic locked would not be a fun outcome.

The main thing that hurts Nintendo is they don't have other markets, I mean look at X-box, big dady Microsoft has all sorts of things under its control so sure of a MAJOR screwup it'll be able to take a money hit and shrug.

Same with Sony.

Nintendo though has what?

Royalities on a few stuffed Animals, Toys and T shirts?

So a hard hit for them isn't a joke, as it was with Sega.

But I doubt they'll go under then again, never know.

True enough Dominius, I was just pointing out the "Norm" as we see it here isn't the same there. Or least won't be given current events, might be fair to say it may be more hostile in the longer run. And we are seeing more self reliance out of that area. Which has deep roots and causes, but I'll take it to PM with Chrisuuuu  if he wishes. But yeah still point stands overall.

And Microsoft and Sony are what?

Welcome the new boss, same as the old boss. Hopefully, we won't get fooled again.

Nintendo has become a blight on the game's industry.

If it weren't for Nintendo existing, the video game scene would be very different from how it is right now, or it might not even exist anymore at all. I never get pure hate for something like this. It's like people hating on bronies, when we haven't done anything wrong.

Nokia failed spectacularly with the N-Gage (though that's handheld) and let us not forget the immense failure that was Atari.

This is certainly true; however, in the case of China, it is so prevalent that despite the existence of a quite large and relatively prosperous urban consumer base, the amount of revenue generated from legitimate DVD sales, for example, (as of a few years ago) was comparable to very small markets.

I know of a few major film studios that were generating a great deal more home video revenue in smaller markets such as Portugal, Taiwan, Netherlands, etc., despite growing Chinese theatrical revenues. At the same time, demand in China for other goods was skyrocketing.

Since September 2011, China has been the largest market for automobiles in the world. China is probably simultaneously one of the smallest markets in the world for legitimate packaged media goods (DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, VCDs, Software, videogames, etc.)

True enough Naughty, hence the more radical things going on (or planned) in the country now. Still piracy is a big issue.

And yea DR I know of the N gage, but there were some home consoles as well...like there is one my dad had that played CD's but it wasn't connected to Sega, had an odd selection of games nothing really like the big boys at the time but yeah they went under too.

Might have been but I don't think so for sure, its launching titles was basically this one golfing game, and this game where you went around beating up ogres while trying to grow a farm...then again it might have been that.

Sounds like a video game called the horde with Kirk Cameron.

The days before I read reviews online for video games, the memories of the bad games I played will never go away.

I was a big fan of Zelda and Zelda II for 8-bit NES.

Haven't played any of the subsequent games in the franchise, but I just saw this trailer for Skyward Sword and it does not look very interesting at all. Not sure if this is for the Wii or the Wii-U. The music is horrible compared to the 8-bit game IMO.

GM Korea is still a subsidiary of GM, with GM being a vast majority stakeholder.  Just like any foreign subsidiary of a major conglomerate.  And it's aggregate captial gains can be added to overall US GNP. Though of course the autonomous change in aggregate spending would have a multiplier effect in China and not the U.S. Overall a win-win situation for both GM and I guess Chinese who can afford these cars.

Yeah thats it, it and the 3DO nameless, that system was crap.

And Chris those Cars don't cost the same as they would stateside, hell they wouldn't even be allowed on the road here. And subsidies don't equaly full share profits.

Also Jedi, wrong bad jedi *slaps hand* In fact Korea has one of the largest game piracy operations in the world, and in Japan its music and internet service, nvm the Yakuza and its litterally billion dollar knock off industry. Piracy is Everywhere.

Piracy is everywhere but it's so prevalent and at times extremely brazen in China. They certainly seem great at mimicry and reverse engineering. GoAT bootleggers I'd say. Here are prime examples:

Bootleg Apple Store:

Chinese pirate entire Austrian village!

Chinese counterfeit entire Japanese company NEC

China bootlegs full scale replicas of US Capitol Building

Hmm maybe its catching up for all the stuff they made and others had coppied in the past? :P

Mute point anyways everyone copies someone, hell the great bulk of US technologies are from German scientists we captured in WW2.

But thats a mute point and for another topic.

They don't have to, but the parent company if it so chooses, esp with close to 90 percent stakehold could easily jettison the entire subsidiary. And recepeits from branches and subsidiaries are usually included in the parent companies coffers.

www.ibtimes.com/articles/239086/20111027/nintendo-losses-mario-mobile.htm

Good article here about what Nintendo should do. Also some reaffirming about the incredible rise of
iOS and Android gaming. And this is the most compelling argument in the article imo:

"However, it's not Sony and Microsoft Nintendo needs to worry about. It's Apple and Google.
The release of the iPhone in 2007, and the subsequent release of the App Store in 2008, completely changed the gaming landscape. More than 500,000 apps have been downloaded 18 billion times from the App Store's
to date, with games making up the vast majority of user downloads. A

Nielsen report also reveals that 93 percent of mobile users are willing to pay for a game, while 64 percent of users who downloaded an app over the last 30 days have downloaded at least one game.
Given that roughly 77 percent of the world's population now owns a cell phone, mobile
games have begun to explode in popularity and profitability; in fact, the mobile gaming industry is expected to report revenue of $8 billion this year. A prime example of mobile gaming potential is Angry Birds, Rovio's breakaway mobile game, which has already surpassed 250 million downloads to become one of the most
popular games of all-time, not just in the mobile category.

Nintendo's loss signifies a sea change in the gaming industry, as the world becomes increasingly mobile and less tied to TV. Unfortunately, Nintendo has repeatedly said that it will not venture into mobile gaming."
