SPAZ has been my favorite game lately. It's an indie effort somewhat similar to Star Control 2: The Ur-Quan Masters, Starscape, or the Escape Velocities. "Star Control 2 meets Diablo" is one comparison that I think is somewhat accurate.

It's really nicely designed. Tom Chick's review here here is pretty much in line with my own opinions. About the only bad thing I have to say about it is that if you don't like games that have procedural content, you may want to get back to playing something - well, something like Bioware games.
