I wouldn't mind Femshep being a little more female and a little less female mask over male actions.

re: the animations:

I think the real problem with the animations in both Mass Effect 2 (fem AND broshep) & in Dragon Age 2 (Lady Hawke's) was that both seemed to think of the hero as needing some 'special' sort of walk, and that translated to *exaggerated.*

Whether male or female, the hero of a game needs to walk like someone who can handle themselves physically. ME2's elephant walk doesn't look smooth or graceful enough for shepard - yes, even male shep. You have to have some degree of grace to vault over as many things as shep does.

And conversely, Lady Hawke looks so...odd, it's hard to believe she can walk, much less fight. If you actually watch a woman martial artist walk, yes, they still walk with a different gait than a man, but it's still a very practical way of walking. I pulle ddwn a mod to make LAdy Hawke walk like manhawke, which is an improvement, but even so I can't help noticing how much she(he) slumps her shoulders and waves her arms far more than you need to in order to run. Again, it's all a little too exaggerated.

Mainly, I'd like to just see the PC stand up straight. DA:O and ME1 had that - shoulders back, head up, moving forward. Ya know - hero like.

At present, DA2 and ME2 have hero characters who look less like 'people who can fight' and more like 'people who come from the Ministry of Silly Walks.'

My vote would be this: get a male martial artist, get a female martial artist, and make the hero char walk accordingly. Other than that, and the occassional 'ma'am/sir' in place of 'commander,' I really would hate to see much about femshep change.

Drinking through a metal helmet? Not a lot of women can do that.

I agree entirely with your whole post, but especially this part. The walking animations are dreadful. Overall, I like femshep the way she is. She has to be tough to be able to get through the things she is put into. I enjoy this type of persona because it's severly lacking with female protagonists.

Girly side to female Shepard? No way. If anything she should be more tomboy-ish IMO. FemShep comes off as a woman that can take care of her business and knows what she wants and gets it (Jacob romance being a prime example). Don't have time for girly moodswings and al that jazz - she's about to be in a war. Plus she's a soldier last time I checked so the tomboy attitude I stated earlier should theoretically be a perfect fit.

I agree completely with this post. Especially the last part. It's not so hard to find examples of people in real life who move like toned/athletic/whatever individuals should, instead of plucking some exaggerated idea from the mind and slapping it in the game.

I'm not a fan of stepping on people's toes, but I'm not a fan of dumbing down what I have to say either as I fancy myself to be a honest yet blunt person. What did I say that was sexist exactly? I was just merely expressing my honest opinion. I didn't think it was a big deal but hey if you point anything out I'll fall in line.

That's is a bit narrow-minded in my opinion. A 'tomboy' (being one myself) isn't necessarily given towards mimicing our male counterparts, but are interested in doings those things normally considered as male oriented activities, be it professional trades trades and skills, sports, or even military carreers.

My two heroes are the late Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (US Navy), who inspired me into following a carreer in Information Systems Technology. The other is Danica Patrick (Indy and Nascar driver) while she compete's with men in racing, she is also a model and advertising spokesperson. Neither were or are prone towards mimicing their male counterparts, but getting things done their own way limited only by their dreams and aspirations, and their skills and abilities.

Oh look, this thread again.

Just give femShep a female skeleton and blocking, maybe alter a cutscene slightly, and give her a moment where a female NPC says something like "you're an influence to women in the military everywhere, Shepard!"

Done.

Alright, I get ya. I stand corrected for my narrow minded-ness. I just want to be clear that I never intended of coming off as offenseive/sexist/etc. Hope you understand. *thumbs up*

But...but...all fanfiction writers are girls! /paradox

I'm pretty much a girly-girl. Sometimes my Shep wears neon pink armor and gallivants around the ship in a cocktail dress. What other girly things are we talking about? I'm not sure what's lacking. I guess I could go on a shopping spree with Tali or something, I mean, I bet Reapers make for hella sales.

The sad thing is I'd probably be totally into that.

No problem, you are good, I addressed your point directly because I disagreed with your opinion on tomboys is all.

My other post was geared more towards others who were starting to make somewhat snide remarks verging on being almost lewd.

If it helps, I approve of both FemShep and Sheploo having a minigun crotch attachment.
