Mass Effect 3's controversial Galaxy at War multiplayer mode
is "very optional" and simply allows players to achieve single-player
goals in "a different way".
That's according to Aaryn
Flynn, GM at BioWare's Edmonton studio, who recently sat down with CVG
and a nearby camera man to discuss Mass Effect 3's online game.

"There was a statement made that the better you do in multiplayer, the
better you are at single-player - and I don't think that's right," he
said.

"The approach we're taking is that multiplayer is very optional for all
of our fans and players. It's a way to achieve certain things in a
different way then you could if you did just the single-player
campaign."

This MP is controversial? Do people have a hard time realizing they don't have to play it?

You would not believe how many idiots I've seen complaining that they don't want to play the multiplayer mode and therefore aren't buying ME3.

It is hard not to lose faith in humanity.

That, and the desire of some to be offended whether they have a good reason or not.

Humanity in general is not particularly intelligent.

Aside from the initial reactions from some people. I have not really seen that line thrown around a lot.

Cross-platform co-op is also not in. Your friends have to play on the same platform you do for them to do those missions with you.

Check the video here.

Now now, be fair Thomson. There are some games/franchises that have in the past suffered distinct drops in SP quality following the introduction of MP. Go google "MP ruined SP" and get a billion trillion results. I don't think you can say the concerns of the anti-MP crowd are completely without basis. The game isn't out yet, which means you're really not in much of a position to say whether people have "good reason to be offended" by this news.

But that is because they split the main team. The sp team for ME3 is uneffected by the addition of mp. They lose nothing for having mp added on. In fact the mp is handled by another team. So the sp will not lose any grounding.

I'm only playing devil's advocate here, but GaW *does* have to be integrated into the SP game. It's not some completely seperate thing.

A old saying from Man in Black makes sense a person is smart, people are dumb.

That sums up why a large number of people get into panic over anything that has mp in it and is how humanity works.

And thanks for the post OP

They did say that a separate studio would handle MP, so it doesn't hamper SP. Hell, its like DICE would be doing a MP spin-off while Bioware does ME3. Apart from the fact that they get shipped in the same program, they're totally isolated from a dev perspective.

If the SP will suffer from something, it most certainly won't be because of MP.
