It's not a question of sex appeal; it's a question of lore consistency. I ask once again:
1. How does she accommodate a full-face helmet for combat in hazardous environments?
2. Where are the light-up rails on the back that her assault rifle and sniper rifle would attach to when she holsters them?
3. Where do the kinetic barrier emitters go?
4. Where is the power generator for said kinetic barrier emitters?
5. Where is the sealed underlayer with ablative ceramic plates attached over areas that don't need flexibility?
And the big one: Why the hell is part of her chest exposed on the 2 right-most concept art pictures?

The answer to 1-5 is...

sex appeal.

It's ridiculous. Ashley was already sexy and not only have they tried to make her oversexualized for the young straight male gamers... it also is the complete opposite of what her character is supposed to be.

But then again... it's Mac Walters and he writes by... checking the wiki. *facepalm*

Whether we like it or not, that is entirely possible. But I wouldn't say the complete opposite till we get to meet her in ME3.

"Looking at a comparison video on youtube, to see what the characters are like since I wasn't around for ME1 and see no point in finishing ME2 since"

Yes it is you can hide behind anything to cover up the fact its not that . Its clear some on here does not want her to have any sex appeal at all . Oh look a woman with sex appeal but is a good character thats something that we need squash and get changed because our stupid lore thing is messed up .  I do not give a crap abouit lore when it comes to a group that want to basically enforce their views of  all women should be covered up when it comes to a game is wrong because this is clearly showing that there are those who feel all women in games should have no sex appeal . when in real life women on tv especially when it comes to the news and tv shows as well as movies have no problem with showing some skin .  Games should reflect how women dress and act in real life .

This is not an overly revealing outfit.  No, it's not heavy armor but it's also not a catsuit.  I don't think it's anywhere near as skimpy as Miranda's outfit.  I don't think it's even as revealing as light armor in ME1, those things looked like spandex to me.  Maybe she could stand to pull that zipper up a bit, but maybe it's a little warm on the Normandy.

I'm not going to spoil anything, just gonna say, that scene is not on the Normandy.

Seeing Ash standing next to another female Alliance officer really drives home how unprofessional and silly Ash's costume really is to me.  No it's not really skimpy.  It's not Miranda-bad, or Samara-bad.  But those two set the bar really low anyway.  For an Alliance officer, and second human SPectre, I'd expect something that carries a little more weight, a bit more authority.

I've ponted out why in other posts:  thigh-high boots.  White pants on a primarilly blue-black outfit.  V-neck.  Skirt-like blouse-jacket.  It's ugly on so many levels.  It's a shame to see it on such a beautiful character.

IMO, it wouldn't be so bad if it was a darker color like that of the clothes that girl and Anderson are wearing. It's too bright... making it stick out and look sort of ... cartoonish or something. I think the concept images look so much more professional and fitting for what an officer in the alliance and/or a spectre would wear while not wearing their battle armor. (All this minus the boob window). I especially like the sash or w/e that goes across her chest in those concepts. Looks very professional. Plus her hair is up. I would have preferred that look ... and honestly, it is a sexy look as well. Not sure how Ash isn't sexy without being all tarted up.

It has absolutely nothing to do with thinking "all women should be covered up" and enforcing a silly view like that on anyone. IT'S ABOUT HER CHARACTER.

Besides,

She ALREADY had sex appeal man!

She looked great in armor and her constant teasing and just her attitude in general had major sex appeal. I think you're just a fan of more skin, no matter the cost. That cost being character assassination.

I could care less about lore isssues with her outfit in ME 3 , this is has become a issue about sex appeal and anyone who says its not is wrong . If she was fully clothed would there be a issue no . So that right there makes my comment perfectly legit . You and others on here hate the fact she has sex appeal now . its the reason for all this outrage .

I think it's different from those around her, because it is suppossed to stick out, to show she is someone important now (yes, yes, I know, she has always been important to some people, including me, but I mean important from an in-universe point-of-view) I will not argue the details, there are some things I have issues with, but overall it looks good, especially in front of the Alliance logo on the wall.
The jacket, minus those armor things on the shoulders is something I'd totally wear.

This whole issue is over sex appeal and its sad that women in games can be treated like dog sh*t in games like GTA but in games like ME where there are strong female characters and show sex appeal is considered offensive and needs to be erased because some can not handle and deal with a woman who has sex appeal but is a kick ass character .

Some women can't help they have strong sex appeal but when its push to the forefront and the consumer is getting Constanly bludgeoned with the character sex appeal it gets annoying

Not talking about your breasts. About Ashley's. Especially since it seems like a good portion of them are exposed on what Bioware might be trying to pass off as her combat armor.

I know, just solidarity and all that. You took my comment an made it about something that I wasn't talking about and so did I. Granted, the way the jacket is cut and the fabric falls doesn't look entirely realistic, but so do a lot of things. Hence my mind can compensate for that in comparison.

Aw, am I going to have to call the whaaambulance?

Seriously though, this is ridiculous. If you're shallow enough to be appalled over a simple character redesign then you really need to grow up. Did any of you people complaining about Ashley's new look play Mass Effect 1? I really doubt it based on how much b**ching I'm seeing. Ashley had a great figure, and an ok face. Now she has make-up on and let down her hair... and yeah that's the only difference. If that's really all you care about, then please, don't play Mass Effect 3, go out into the real world and learn how to not be a shallow tool. Then come back and realize that if you gave as much of a damn about her character as your do her looks, you wouldn't be complaining half as much about an aesthetic change that has zero bearing on her character.
Also, any retard who thinks that Ashley's redesign is catering to "straight male gamers" needs to just go. Away. Perhaps forever. Why? Because you're complaining about a character's small pshysical appearance adjustment symbolizing the developers new angle to cater to straight male gamers

IN A GAME WITH A SPECIES OF HOT ALIEN BABES

Holy hypocritical whiners Batman, it looks like your entire argument is completely invalid. You know what? They did change her appearance. She looks better. Why is that bad? Why is outlining her figure bad? If you had actually played ME1 recently, you would have noticed that heavy armor actually accentuated her hips more. Granted, armor in general does nothing for a female characters breasts, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Ashley was the normal human woman in the Mass Effect series. Oh wait, she still is. They just gave her a make-over. This entire thread can be simplified down to this:

1:Ashley's new look is awful
2:Why?
1:It's too sexy.
2:What the walrus?
1:I like her the way she was.
2:Dude, all that happend was that she put her hair down.
1:Yeah. That's not cool. Her character is ruined.
2:Because of a hair adjustment, a pair of heels, and boobs.
1:Yup.
3:Not only that, but Bioware is sexist because her new uniform is more skintight than the other skintight armor she's had before, which clearly means that bioware is attempting to lure in new gamers by attracting the straight male audience to the new sexiness of the character. Furthermore, Ashley's character isn't allowed to change because I said so.
2:Please GTFO.
3:No I'm right.
1:Yeah. Ashley's new look was not ok'd by me, so now her character is totally messed up.
2:But her appearance has nothing to do with her character.
1:I don't care. This clearly shows the new direction EA and Bioware are taking every game ever.
2:No it's a character redesign.
3:Your mom's a redesign.
1:Indeed.

I didn't like Ashley in ME1 because of her attitude and her lack of femininity. I don't want a stereotypical 'kick ass strong' femme fatale for a love interest... too boring and too cliche now. I want a woman who *wants* to be a woman.

Miranda was a bit better, though the outfit was a bit tight agreed. But at least she warmed up over time.
