Also, Kaidan and Ashley are supposedly Spectres now. If so, then she's not bound by a military dress code. Based on conversations in ME1 about family, her sister, etc., it doesn't sound like she's inexperienced with men. I think it's possible that on her downtime or shore leave, she might actually like dressing up and/or using makeup. I mean, how much did we ACTUALLY learn about her life/personal habits outside of a war situation in ME1?

That being said, I'm a little iffy on the amount of protection this new armor provides, and it does tart things up a bit...but it doesn't seem that bad to me. I think a Spectre could hypothetically want more mobility/lighter armor (and no, I don't think heels help on that end). In any case, if it's just one of the looks and she does have more...war-appropriate armor, I can live with it. Also, I'm willing believe that she's changed a bit over a couple of years. At least Kaidan finally got rid of that weird mullet-bump thing.

Ah kaiden and vega get to stand tall like the soldiers they are, while ashley swings her hips for to the side in a symbol of the woman she is.

Le sigh.

Ludicrous, a women changed her hair style and got some new clothes, they never do that :D

The big question is, "Will Ash throw a hissy fit if we (as maleshep) don't take the time to tell her how good the new hair looks???"

We know enough about her that she wouldn't be dolled up or in a rubber suit during a fight.

Although thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

For all we know that could be Ashley's formal dress blues. I don't think people would have soldiers going into courtrooms looking like tanks...

The videos that sparked the whole debate were some time after the courtroom opening. The videos and images showed her straight into combat with that getup, and her sniping WITH HER EYE COVERED BY HER HAIR.

Luckily it seems all will be well, and I am thankful to bioware for it.

Another thing that left unchecked is if two concepts to the left are actual concepts of her armor or that's early prototypes of "jacket outfit". See, Kaidan - all concepts are heavily armoured, unlikely to be casual outfit; the biggest picture (supposedly the canonic look) is armoured. Vega - biggest picture is armoured. But biggest Ashley - casual outfit? Something doesn't match. I still think that Ashley to the centre (near Kaidan) wears her iconic armor, and Ashleys to the left are either early versions or heavier version of armour which will be either unlockable or DLC.

Edit: apparently BSN hates this post. I'd rather to add that I don't like my squadmates having boobs window.

I'm thinking that the difference is Kaidan and Vega are men and thus must look big, strong, and capable and Ash is female and thus must look alluring and seductive.  That's why it "doesn't match"  It does, just not in the way it should.

I don't like the casual look at all.  I can barely credit it as a uniform, certainly not armor.  I look at it and say "I hope she got dinner first"  But I do like the second from the left all black armor and hope that's her standard armored look.  And I'll just hope there some sort of unlockable or DLC casual outfit that looks more professional and more Alliance-like.

As I pointed out, she might be more dolled up in informal/dating situations, and as a Spectre, she might be a little less rigid in terms of makeup/hair. I certainly didn't think that red outfit with the skirt-like thing was a great idea (you know, the original look), but it didn't inspire loathing or rage in me either. The way I see it, as long as she does have a more combat-ready armor set, then I'm willing to treat any other set as being her "casual" Spectre look (or whatever you wish to call it).

Also, I'm pretty willing to leave some room for there to be a bit of change, so long as they don't go completely overboard. I'd certainly change my hairstyle after a couple of years (am actually anticipating doing that soonish so that I no longer have my usual mop-like frizzy hair look). I'm not going to begrudge them having Ashley visit a salon for a new hairstyle at any rate.

Just a minor detail:  the red outfit was a concept AAP costume for the CE that was essentially just a reskin of the blue casual outfit.  In the outfit in the picture she is in fact wearing either a skirt or a long jacket.

I think you misunderstand me, I don't mind ashley wearing something like this, just not during combat. Ashley made fun of old sci fi tropes with space babes, ashley scoffed at asari and their light armor (while oddly enough, kaiden who admired their light armor is now dressed like a tank!) and ashley is the girl with the big gun.

It just seems against character to wear a rubbr suit during combat.

As long as she ties up her hair and put on some real armor she can wear as much makeup and dresses as much she wants off duty. If she doesn't she is going to stay on the ship, or I might load a save with kaiden on it instead. At least with kaiden it might not be totally in character, but he is more protected.

(to note, I also left unarmored character on the ship on my first playthrough. I didn't like bringing jacob along for example, for a dude rocking a shotgun he was wearing a speed suit.)

Makes sense. Thanks.

And while I stared at that picture, I've realised two things:

1) the biggest reason why I can't believe that Ashleys to the left wear armour is that they still look less protected than Kaidan in alt. appearance or in "screenshot". Somehow I set whatever my favourite squishy Sentinel wears as lightest armor. Strange.

2) there was temporary glitch in vision (you're hallucinating over concept art, mineralica? Okaaay...) and I saw Ashley in plain white pants instead of... whatever she wears now, white leggings? And I must say, Ashley wearing something not so form-fitting (huh, not likely happen - or will happen with ton of clipping issues) for the bottom and properly zipped jacket... and, maybe boots with lover heels with pants covering them instead of being tucked in... looks more like uniform. But maybe that's just me.

OP:

If you werent around for ME1, and dont care to get involved with ME2, why do you care about it for ME3?

Because I may play them someday once ME3 actually geta release date and my friends have played the games. I just think that it's very strange that Ashley is the only one with a radically different look in this game. From what I have gathered from the other games, through youtube, Ashley seemed like a very likeable hardass military chick. Though all her posing, like she's in a bikini photo shoot, doesn't seem like the same character from the first two games at all.

Would she ever be though? For all we know, that catsuit could've been her casual outfit. We only saw her in-game during Earth level demo, which happens after the trial she attends. What if that was her dolled up outfit for the trial? Since you know, you should dress up nice for court? We didn't see what Kaidan wears in the Earth level demo, he might have a jacket dolled up outfit as well.

We'll see.

What has people concerned, is probably the little ring of flimsy plastic at the one shoulder -- that sort of detail keeps giving "armour" classification to rubber catsuits on videogame females -- pattern recognised, worry engaged. :P

Oh, I totally get that, and I wouldn't expect Ashley to be dressed in the (as you put it) rubber suit for straight-up combat. I also don't think she'd put on makeup for combat or do her hair, but assuming that she has to function diplomatically and deal with people in less militaristic situations as a Spectre, I can see her softening her appearance slightly in that capacity and that the hair and makeup is kind of her basic default appearance now.

I'm assuming that she will have the same hair and makeup throughout the game. However, as long as she has at least one combat-appropriate armor set that seems reasonably strong, protective and sensible, then I don't think the hair/makeup thing is a major deal-breaker (for me that is). If she's stuck with the one outfit for the whole game, yeah, I can see that being an issue for people who find it doesn't match her personality from ME1, but (and this just applies to me) I'm fine with some change over time.

Yeah, Kaidan's armor does seem bulked up a bit. While it does seem slightly odd that he's going heavier and Ash is going lighter, maybe Kaidan's had more combat-oriented and dangerous missions - if you want to toss around hypothetical reasons for the changes that is.

The problem is we don't know. I wasn't around for all the fuss about Miranda, but I hear that the buzz eventually died down and people simply believed BW not to give them an over-sexed woman. well, BW sh*t all over that belief, so why exactly should we simply trust their word now, without proof?

Being objective though, the complaints weren't mentioning that he's too sexed up or that his shirt is too tight and you can seen the nipples through. The complaints were that he caters to dudebros who love muscle head Soap-like soldier characters from Gears of War & COD.
