Irrelevant anyway, since the real question is, "Would a military woman dress that way in combat - especially when she has already openly mocked impracticality?"
The answer is "no."
Yep.
I think she said that she was against miniskirts in ME1 unless someone bought her dinner.
Something like that.
So, why does Ashley look radically different?

Will you all stop your incessant crying and moaning over this? This isn't even an issue.....if someone showed you a picture of those same three Marines in civilian clothing, with their hair down and some make-up on you wouldn't even be able to tell they are the same people.
That argument would be valid if Ashley was actually wearing civilian clothes. She's not. Note the Spectre logo.
That argument carries even less weight. As a Spectre she can pretty much wear whatever she wants and look however she wants....Spectres are the most skilled operatives, they just wouldn't have the restrictions that normal soldiers and Marines do.

While none of them mini, she has been shown to have a "skirt" on one of her armors, also thigh highs.

No need to have heavy armor while visiting Shepard in jail. Besides that, the combat dress of those three marines won't deflect a bullet.
I hope to God you're right.... I'd really like to take a look at this heavier armor she's supposedly getting.

Sure. Outside of combat she can wear anything she damn well pleases. That better not be the case in combat though. I don't want to see a repeat of the travesty that was Miranda and Samara.

Then we never had to see Ashley in a diplomatic role. What I want absolutely to see. She isn't anymore a random soldier, I don't want to see her dressed like a random soldier. I do not see her back on Earth to discuss the tense situation about the Reaper, and Batarians in armor, so that's normal for the beginning.
This outfit works well - for me - the new political and diplomatic role that Ashley has to fulfill. Now, we all want an armor for the battle, and they are working on it.

Again....as a Spectre she wouldn't have any restrictions. Shepard, Nihilus and even Saren didn't wear their Spectre outfits....Shepard probably just threw his away. The council has more improtant issues to deal with than micromanage the best fighters in the gallaxy and tell them how to fix their hair.

Where on earth do some people get these ideas that women are some gestalt entity that all wear heels and miniskirts all day, all the time? There are women like that, sure, good for them. There are also women who wear other things, because they aren't a hive mind, they are individuals. Ashley gave a very strong impression of not concerned with her sex appeal. That was one of the things I liked about her, actually.
I don't really know. But your description of a particular kind of woman is considered in some circles to be attractive. I never wear high heels. Looks painful. Really painful. Bad for your back too. Save that for a special occasion with a pair of backup flat shoes if you must.
I feel sex appeal comes more from attitude and confidence than appearence.
Okay enough of the deviations (I deviate too much) back ot the question Why does Ashley look radically different?
First of all the plot reason. Time has past and she wanted a change. Lots of people like to alter their appearence. It's normal. It happens all the time.
Secondly the comercial reason. The developers wanted to revamp all the graphics including character designs to appeal to mainstream gamers. This is also normal, it happens all the time.
Ultimately Ashley's sex appeal has nothing to do with the clothes she wears. In my mind a girl who can fight is always going to be attractive regardless of appearence. That is my preference. Please don't tear me apart for being honest.

I'm pretty sure some people would call this a skirt.
That's what I said before: her "skirt" looks more like the lower part of her jacket. The only thing that bugs me are those "white panties" when she's wearing the blue variant of that dress. They just don't work - make'm blue and everything looks fine, even with her "armored thigh high boots"

I would be a bit disappointed if Ashley isn't anymore latino. I hope they will fix that, with darker skin. We have to wait when it will be polished to see the final result.Abraham_uk wrote...
Guys I can live with a lot of these changes. Sure she looked awesome before with a hint of Latino (I swear the character has latino origins) to a more European look. This doesn't really offend me.

I'm not a fan of that either. They had me wondering: "What was BioWare thinking when they put that together for her?" I felt like a fashion critic. Blue or black would work very well with those boots.CptData wrote...

So with ME I'll just wait and see. IMO the boots should be shortened to calf length anyway for the dress outfit. For me it's the color combination. I can deal with the jacket. With that one picture back a couple pages: back off a bit on Ash's brow ridge -- that's where the problem is mainly. The eye shape changed, too, I guess the more rounded bottoms of the eyes make her appear more kind. But the brow ridge makes them look like they don't fit. The eyes are too big for the head.
Seriously I hope they go back to the ME1 on the helmets in space and in toxic environments.
BTW, the women in the military photo would be wearing flak jackets in a combat area. But in ME universe I'm guessing it's powered battle armor, not catsuits.

You're missing the point. I'm saying that even though Ashley is now a Spectre, on the battlefield she should still be wearing the same kind of armored hardsuits that Kaidan, Shepard (MaleShep or FemShep), Vega, Liara, or Tela Vasir have been seen wearing. I'm not saying she should have the exact same color scheme, but the same design. Read the Codex entry on armored hardsuits to understand what I'm talking about. This isn't an issue of her Spectre status as opposed to her service in the Alliance. It's not even about gender roles. This is an issue of maintaining in-universe consistency and verisimilitude. ME2 already did enough to damage that. They don't need to repeat the same mistakes again.
I don't care about what she wears outside of combat, for example on the Normandy or in "safe" hub zones.

It's a tricky subject to talk about, since sex appeal is kind of a nebulous thing. But in a lot of media it seems that people think that sex sells, that eyecandy is worth the expense of verisimilitude, and, generally, female characters have to have it before anything else. So I think it gets to be kind of a hair trigger issue, at least for me. Ashley is no where near as bad as, say, Rachel from Ninja Gaiden, but, when the signs of that sex sells attitude pop up where they were minimal before, then it's really frustrating.

maybe your forgetting that Miranda is genetically modified?
