So, why does Ashley look radically different?

I see quite a few bemused comments, in this thread, on Kaiden's likewise uncharacteristic gender-ideal-stereotype realignment.

I don't think anyone is. You never saw all the threads about how Vega was a roid freak? I still think he's too big.
I've seen people complain about him, yes.

I see.

Would she ever be though? For all we know, that catsuit could've been her casual outfit. We only saw her in-game during Earth level demo, which happens after the trial she attends. What if that was her dolled up outfit for the trial? Since you know, you should dress up nice for court? We didn't see what Kaidan wears in the Earth level demo, he might have a jacket dolled up outfit as well.Nashiktal wrote...
We know enough about her that she wouldn't be dolled up or in a rubber suit during a fight.
The problem is we don't know. I wasn't around for all the fuss about Miranda, but I hear that the buzz eventually died down and people simply believed BW not to give them an over-sexed woman. well, BW sh*t all over that belief, so why exactly should we simply trust their word now, without proof?
What he said.

Does anyone else think that if there never were any negative response over Miranda's outfit. We would never have gotten armor for Ashley?
I think that's true and wish people hadn't complained. I prefer her hair down, even when she's wearing a space suit. Short hair hardly looks good on women and the few it doesn't bother me, Ashley is not one of them. She looks much better with the long hair.
Besides, we don't know Ashley's story, she could have been on some sort of mission or something that required her to look sexy and dolled up before she was called back or returned to earth for Shepard's trial. So, I don't understand why the complainers.
Though why the bun, why not give her a pony tail instead? That'd work too and look much better.

Don't judge new ashley/kaiden/wrex on their ME1 dress or personalities. You don't know them in ME3 yet.

I'm not sure if you're disagreeing with me, seeing as I pretty much said the same thing.
People change a lot in 2 years in their twenties. Besides just maturing, you're starting to fall into your life.. your real friends filter thru the short-term ones, you set out on your career and maybe advance, you maybe settle down, or put down roots. Someone at 26 is drastically different then when they were 16.. or 22. It might be a slight shift, but it's a shift. But hey, this is pretty much about a hair style.. are we expected to wear our hair the same way from the time were 22 until forever?
If you think you've got ME3 Ash figured out from a 3 second clip of her just standing on a ramp, you're either supernaturally intuitive or very naive.

I think someone who's a soldier, working with a Spectre, is probably going to be pretty stable in their personality. And for me, the hair isn't really all that big of a problem, it's the bizarre-looking outfit. That is not a personality shift, but a complete 180 turn. Ash would have to be a completely different person for that to make sense.

It's a fair point, but consider this:
When we first pick up Ash, she's an exceptional soldier who had been held down by her family history. She's extremely loyal to her beliefs & her family, but she doesn't demand more for herself.
In the 2 years since working with Shep, she has gotten past the black mark of her family name. She's been sent out of Alliance space, alone, showing the Alliance believes she's capable of independance. Being elevated to Spectre status furthers this idea. She's out of shep's shadow. Out of her own shadow. Free to let her hair down (wakka wakka)
But, the big hole in these Ash arguments: She mentions tramping around town in a miniskirt in one of the first conversations you can have with her with the right gender/dialogue options. Fact is, Ash is just a professional. If she's a Spectre now, she can come in to work in jeans, so to speak.

There is a difference between a jrp and bioware. Are you telling me that I can't enjoy both? Diversity? OH TEH HUMANITY!
Also thats not a light suit, its a rubber suit. See all that lovely latex?
Oh and don't get me started how you are ignoring all the well reasoned argument to post sarcasm. Yup. No trolling there.

I had to log back in when I saw this. I've only played one JRPG, FF13, and the main character is not oversexualized.
Also, as I've said before ME is trying to be a deeper series, something closer to art, something with with real-world situations like the Geth and Quarians, like the Genophage, things that aren't so black and white. They're trying to be more mature. I don't know of any JRPGS (again, only played one) that are trying to do that. Thus they aren't comparable.
I'll check back later.
