A woman letting her hair down and wearing a lighter suit... :crying: oh the humanity!

:o Wow. You should really give Infinite Undiscovery a try. The story starts off a bit slow but once it picked up speed I enjoyed it a lot.

If we're talking 360 exclusive ones here, Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia should take precedence. Many (myself included) would also argue that the former is the JRPG of this generation, although many of those would also argue it's what the last few FF-titles should have been, take that as you will.

What is wrong with Ashley growing changing how she wears her hair or her outfit? For the life of me I just don't see a problem with this at all.

Well there is a game reason... sort of.

Ashley has been redesigned to replace Miranda as the super hot space babe. Regular Ashley is to plain looking to replace Miranda. So they fixed up Ashley proportions a bit, had her let hair down, and gave her a suit that Miranda would probably be comfortable in.

If they kept Ashley's look the same... all the adolescent males would complain how unattractive Ashley  is because she wears too much armor, has her hair in a bun, and isn't very busty. And so they would say that ME3 sucks because there is no hot human girl for their Shepard to bang in the engine room.

Basically Bioware is saying "Sorry guys, but you won't be able to check out Miranda's butt on the Normandy in ME3. But here's a more sexy version of Ashley instead."

Personally I find what they've done pretty low-brow. But I don't really expect anything to change no matter how well reasoned anyone's counter arguements are. Doesn't matter if you're right or wrong. Point is sex sells and Bioware sure as heck knows it does.

Have you played Infinite Undiscovery? I have that is one of my most favorite xbox games, I have played lost odyssey and tales of vesperia and I don't like those at all, I just can't stand them. I have beaten infinite undiscovery on every difficulty and my fav chracter for that game is Aya and michelle running around in a skirt and dress as well as fighting.

Another game that has over sexulized women or scenes that is wrong is Record of agarest war and record of agarest war zero.

Also, as I've said before ME is trying to be a deeper series, something closer to art, something with with real-world situations like the Geth and Quarians, like the Genophage, things that aren't so black and white. They're trying to be more mature. I don't know of any JRPGS (again, only played one) that are trying to do that. Thus they aren't comparable.

I'll check back later.

Funny story though, I remember when the final fantasy group traded art with another gaming group (the name espcapes me) and the guy revealed he drew lightning... and by draw her I mean you only see a shot of her chest and heavy cleavage, right after being asked about sexualization in the gaming industry.

Weren't around for the huge topics that disucssed this eh? You are missing the head of the disdain for it. Its not so much the outfit itself (which to be honest doesn;t fit her to me) but when she wears it.

Combat is not the place for long hair and rubber suits.

Why concerned of ME3 when you didn't play ME1 and don't care about ME2?
But to answer your question : I believe I heard on a random post here that she didn't look to "womanly" even with her Phoenix Armor. So they changed her, they weren't going to in Me2 since she just had a very small role. That's the only thing I heard about it.

yeah I haven't been around for awhile, got to work and pay bills so I've been out of the loop. Thanks for telling me what is probably the main reason people have problems with it. In ME 2 I got all of the outfit dlc's but I never used it for miranda I just don't like her outfit with the eye thing and I prefer Miranda in her leather outfit with heels and fighting like that. Even though I understand the problem poeple have with the way ashley and miranda is with the hair etc I still don't have a problem with it. For me if there is a dlc to change her appearance I won't use it.

The thing is though that gaming can take it further, be more mature, and be successful DESPITE sex, not because of it. I know men are sexualized as well, but for every sexualized guy there is at least one guy mature to match up with him, or hell he might be sexualized and mature.

Females in gaming? Not counting custom characters, you can count mature non sexualized characters on your fingers, probably even on one hand. Don't forget how all females have to be in a sexy pose. Just look at the concept art of ashly in this thread. Vega and Kaiden get the usual tough soldier stance (which ironically kaiden is actually more of a sensative officer, but thats beside the point) while ashley gets to swing her hips out. Cause shes a lady.

Moviebob did a great video on this.

While I can't argue taste, can we at least agree its out of character for ashley? I can at least accept that miranda isn't military (and I used her more as an officer on the ship than a soldier anyways) but with ashley she was always the type to prefer armor. She mocked light armor that asari wore and even claimed she would prefer heavy armor between herself and bullets.

It just feels... wrong to have her in that getup during combat. Of course this is all moot, as she is supposedly getting proper armor now.

You summed it up perfectlly.

I happen to agree with you on this there are games out there that are successful with out sexulized characters like tales of symphonia for the game cube or metal gear solid and other games out there. The thing is though that sex sells and it looks like bioware and other gaming companies know this, so they probably figure that more guys and girls will or would buy more of their games. I might be wrong but this is what I think is happening now.

If you want to blame somebody, blame the artists that Bioware hired! They're the ones that came up with the look. And Moviebob may be a funny guy, but that particular video is eventually summed up to, 'It's the collective fault of the entire male gender for being immature. They need to grow up.'. I'm sure if you want to degrade the entire consumer base by throwing out baseless judgements then that's a wonderful argument, but let's not pretend it's anything more than thoughtless blather.

While I agree with you that Bioware's decision to sexify Ashley is rather distasteful, I don't think it was done with the intention of filling the gap left by Miranda. Simply put, there's no telling whether or not Miranda's coming back to join the crew yet--there's no evidence pointing in either direction.

Rather, I believe Bioware made that decision with the thought process, "Oh, well in terms of human females, the casual gamer would NEVER choose Ashley over Miranda, because, heck, look how much hotter Miranda is!" And hence, the change.

Umm that's not what I was getting at it. Don't have any problem with characters having sex, being nude, or looking "sexy" for that matter. Honestly I thought the so-called sex scenes in ME2 were pretty tacky for a lack thereof. But I do have a problem when these things are done for little more then sheer titillation rather then adding anything to the story. By all means justify it however you want. Thing is I don't see much good justification for it. Especially with Ashley of all the female characters.

Eh shouldn't have posted in this thread as I'm more then sure this was a flamebait thread from the start. Honestly why troll BSN? It doesn't even take any effort... don't understand how it could even possibly be gratifying.

There's also Grand Theft Auto V, Halo 4 & Far Cry 3. Yeah, not as much as this big titles coming up as this year, but the ones that do come out in 2012 are like the biggest franchises in the industry so I'm happy, it's looking to be another stellar year for this generation :)

Can't believe I forgot Far Cry 3, that game looks stellar so far. I haven't been particularly excited about the Halo series since before 2007 but I'm sure it won't disappoint.
