IIRC it was mentioned that she was in civie clothes that uni and had to fight when a surprise attack comes. It would be akin to a JAG inquiry being attacked yet the soldiers would fight without all their gear out of necessity and bravery.Nashiktal wrote...
Well I don't think of romancing her in this look. I think of... I don't know, asking her whats with that gettup. She is the only one who is wearing anything so... "That" in all the alliance officers and spectres we have seen. Her knew "look" is so far only matched by miranda and samara, and they are only beaten by jack.
Even with the ridiculousness samara, jack and miranda seem to have reasons and character development for/with their looks (samara less so but admiral cheeze made a compelling argument) but ashley?
Even if they made a reason for their new looks... any reason that has her wearing that thng during an intergalactic war of apocolyptic scale just doesn't seem right to me. I'm ecstatic about the news she will still have armor but I don't know if any explanation will fit her character. I guess I will have to wait and see... Its just the description for her new look and the general direction bioware is taking in general just worries me frankly.
A few years ago something like this would be unheard of about bioware, now... its still shocking but somewhat expected. Its sad for me.
So, why does Ashley look radically different?

Well to be fair we don't know the context of the scene from just one screenshot. IF BW breaks their we have armor for Ashley statement then the fur will fly I am sure.Ryzaki wrote...

I'd agree if she was wearing those clothes in combat.
Exactly, that's not the outfit she wears into combat!
That's the outfit she addresses admirals, the Council, and other important officials in!

I'm not talking about when you first meet her, more of concerns why she is worried about makeup and looking nice like that during the war after you pick her up.
Although I supposed that could be in the laps of the player if characters have customizable casual outfits.

You mean everyone getting off the shuttle with weapons in their hands fully suited up is bad context?

I'll admit that if people have a hard time telling Ash and Miranda apart, Bioware's doing it wrong.
But I'm willing to believe that Ash's face is as yet "unfinished" and further refinements will make her look more like the Ash we know and love. At least, I hope so. Maybe we'll see a later build with the demo
So much for those "iconic" looks, eh?
@InvincibleHero, Upon further examination of beta footage, I have been able to determine that she does in fact have those light-up rails on her back. I think we can conclude that these are not civilian clothes. If they are, then they're very militant civilian clothes.

Also, don't forget that this is a modified engine and a new model, so you really shouldn't expect it to look 1000000% indentical.

Wut? There's practicly no difference in the face between the old and the new Ashley - the only difference I see is clothing and hairstlye. And that certanly isn't plastic surgery territory.

I think her nose got adjusted a bit. That's the only "surgery" part. Ash plucked her eyebrows, but that's something I can live with. Hair is fine, I heard if you pick her combat outfit, Ash will return to bun and/or pony tail.

That would be nice, though I probably would prefer a ponytail - after seeing Deelane's artwork.

Maybe Ashley put a little effort into her appearance because she was hoping to run into Shepard.
I don't think so, Tim.
Doesn't fit to Ashley's character. She might still want Shepard back, but she won't do the first step - that's Shepard's turn.

Why? She repudiated him on Horizon. She has to make the first move after that horror show.

No. Don't wanna start another useless Horizon debate - just try to get into her shoes. The guy she loved died 2 years ago, suddenly reappears and works for a terrorist organisation. Ash also could believe Shepard faked his own death to defect to said organisation.
And then Shepard tries to recruit her and acts as if nothing had happened.
Sorry, I can fully understand Ashley's or Kaidan's reaction.
Case closed.
How would you react?

Probably by saying I was sorry and should've given them a chance to explain instead of storming off in a huff? I mean that hypothetical is ludicrous...she could also believe he'd become an asari gigolo ffs:whistle:
I can understand their reactions. I also expect them to a) apologise first and

I hate that concept. Sounds like something morinth would do maybe, but not ashley or any of the other squademates at least in the context of ashley being a spectre working for alliance top brass (oh and did I mention the apocolypse that is happening?)

Not to mention Ashley and Shepard did not necessarilly have a romantic connection, thus dressing up "hoping to run into Shepard" would make no sense whatsoever.

Seeing as the only playthroughs I have in which Ashley is alive are with straight FemSheps, her dressing up to impress Shepard would indeed be weird.iakus wrote...

A quote from the Art Book says "We gave Ashley Sex Appeal"
So I think its pretty clear why Ashley looks differing, and just where their heads were when making that call.
As for 'plastic surgery' territory. Her boobs are now twice as large. Seriously - compare screenshots if you doubt it. Especially in ME1 on the normandy shirt and the skin tight with heels suit from ME3.

On one hand, difference in body model may be caused by the fact that Ashley has unique model now, while in ME1 one model was used for all human characters of same gender.Icinix wrote...
The marketing so far for ME3 has been - Combat, 'Splosions, Combat, Combat Skills, Combat, Combat, more 'Splosions.

On another hand, the direction of changes is... disturbing. I have yet to see characters who became less stereotypically appealing after getting their looks revised. Or one biotic who decided that if biotic barrier would protect him/her from anything and comfort will be the main issue, s/he would wear pajamas at battle.

I suspect the people who this would appeal to most are the ones who would select "combat mode" - in it for some easy, superficial fun. Which is ok but bioware games have always offered more than that.
