So, why does Ashley look radically different?

Badassness, plus, I don't know - fighting some baby Reapers, Collectors, saving the VS. I kid, I kid. That one factor won't really matter to me, lol.

Whatever she is, she'll probably step aside to be XO, and Shepard the CO, or something similar.
That pretty much goes without question for both, I'm just curious if it's something that will be mostly glossed over or if some new normandy crew members will have ambient comments where they are confused, speciifcally for Kaiden since he's actually two ranks higher than Shepard now.

Shepard would probably still be commanding officer of the Normandy. If Shepard is still a SPECTRE he'd step aside for seniority's sake. If not, he'd probably step aside for seniority's sake.Mclouvins wrote...

She shows LESS skin in ME3, not more. it's character development. Soemthing probably along the lines of when Joker said "Garrus finally got that stick out of his ass"
She's been cheaply sexualized. Debased. We could argue it's character development, or we could cut the naivety and sugarcoating and realize that this is actually damaging and disrespectful to the character. Also: implying that Ashley had a stick up her ass? I don't think so. She was just sexy on her own terms.
And I'm sorry, but this still seems like a blatant replacement for the TNA that Miranda won't be providing. There are people who bought the last game for it, after all, and human females are in short order, so even if it does toss some of her character into the wind, suck it into a high speed propulsion jet and shred it to bits...
It had to be done.

It's not about showing skin. Not entirely. The black outfit in the concept art is more of a catsuit and has a frakking boob window, and I still think it's a better outfit for Ash (though I admit I'd prefer a Spectre logo on the chest instead of a gap)
It's the color scheme. It's the cut of the outfit. It's the boots. The hair is fine. It's great, in fact. Provided it can be pulled back in combat.

Say what now?
I guess this is the result of "squadmates will have different outfits with different stats". Or this is the second mission played directly after depart from Earth and Ashley still didn't found an armor for herself (highly unlikely).

At the time I thought he was being a bit ridiculous, surely it's not that bad, I told myself.
Then I recently happened upon the following image of what the outfit looked like from behind:
http://desmond.image....jpg&res=medium
Now I can at least... understand his point.
Now listen, no matter how Bioware design her and no matter what dumb stuff they make her do in the plot, Ashley will remain my favorite female character and I will absolutely romance her. But I still have issues with this outfit's design choice and what implications are being raised by having Ashley wear it.
Namely that it appears sex appeal is now valued higher then actual character consistency and indeed characterization when it comes to the female characters of Mass Effect. That regardless of who they were or their personalities or attitudes prior to Mass Effect 3, their entire worth is based solely on their capacity to titilate male audiences.
But still, if you want my full opinion on this go read page 20. I posted there a while back, I just wanted to put this picture up because it worries me slightly that this could be an indication that what happened to Miranda (endless Ass shots that undermine her character at serious moments) might happen to Ashley too.

Funny cuz her original writer has her talking about getting in thigh highs and mini skirts! It's a line that is said unprovoked with no bearings on the roamnce, you can NOT romance her and she'll still say it. She says it no matter what to male shep and Kaidan does a similar line to femshep. She openly talks about an outfit liek that and this one isn't even CLOSE. She's completely covered unlike her other casual outfit where she's in a tshirt instead of a jacket. Plus this one has padding on it. so your "wh0resuit" is far from it.
You need to choose particular dialogue to get that response - and also be nice / flirty with her on the Normandy by memory and be male.
She's also saying it as something she wouldn't normally do.
ALSO - later in the game - UNPROVOKED she talks about the Asari commando suits as being less than ...appropriate.
The suit she is wearing is against her character, they also say in the art book that they deliberately sexualised Ashley which is not what Ashley ever appeared to be.
There is a fine line between doing something for the game / story and doing it for the sake of visual stimulation in players. This is clearly visual stimulation for the sake of visual stimulation.
No, but she talks about practicality in combat. Her hair down out of combat is fine, the first time you meet her in ME1 she has a helmet. Her new suit is in combat, the t-shirt and cargoes were crew clothes out of combat. It covers up more than casual clothes, but less than the armour you first meet and indeed she wears for the entirety of ME1 and ME2. Regardless, the skin wasn't an issue - its the character development that focused on developing her boobs to twice the normal size that irked me.

Oh crap! Look what they've done to her ass! FFS it's like Miranda's. Damn you, BioWare. The Ashley I knew in ME1 wouldn't be giving the public that kind of view. What the hell? And if we get stupid ass shots when talking to her, I'm going to be pissed. We're fighting a god-damn war. Ash should be suited up in some sturdy armor or an Alliance uniform like a SOLDIER not a lapdancer with heels. For crying out loud... smh.
Well, this sucks. Not to mention the spoilers...

Hey Mega, as long as they're not focusing on her ass only, I can live with that. If I can pick an outfit without the "white pants", her ass doesn't look like Miranda's "DAT ASS" anymore.
I thought the "ass" thing is for US guys only? Europeans have boobies and what do Canadians have?

I think her "butt crack" looks that ... "prominent" ... because of those white pants. Replace them with dark blueish pants and the crack is gone (or less visible). Also we don't know what Ash loves to wear when not in duty (we saw her only in duty dress on the Normandy). However, I concur: Ash won't ever show her butt like that. It doesn't fit to her.
That's why I'm going to give her an outfit with dark pants.

It's true we don't know what Ash likes to wear when off duty. That's why I was... okay-ish with the outfit... Until I saw the back just now. And I'm not happy at all. Come on! Ash is a soldier thru and thru she should be dressed like one! She shouldn't be in a rubber suit and heels. Not during ME3 anyway. I don't want a space babe... This is UGHHHHH! Bring back the old ass-kicking Ash in some standard armor and uniform, with boots and a big gun.

Indeed, the only time those kinds of white pants would be needed is if Ashley is in Shepard's quarters reprising her role as 'Sally the Sexed up Sergent."
But seriously though, I don't approve.
