So, why does Ashley look radically different?

Very interesting, guess it just shows how people's mindsets and outlooks are vastly different. Because as a female, I'm really not bothered at all with Ashley's look or uniform. Yes, she's slightly more "dolled up" I suppose but it isn't nearly as blatant as certain characters appearances.

But whatever, to each their own.

A little too late to answer this, but I don't hate Ashley, I'm glas she's coming back in my playthrough.

But her look in ME1 never did her any justice, I'm glad she looks pretty now.

I wonder why a "hair bun" makes Ashley to a granny. I mean, we don't know what kind of fashion they'll have in the 22nd century, maybe "granny style" is in for young women?

And just in case it IS granny-style in the 22nd century, then Ash is the sexiest granny alive

Her outfit just seems like it's reinforcing the notion that sexuality is something that women wear - it has entirely to do with their appearance. Sexy isn't something that Ashley can have or feel or want or do; she has to wear heels and plastic pants (into combat) and have big hips and boobs or she's not sexy. Same message that Samara and Jack and Miranda and Isabella and any number of other female characters send.

That's a completely bogus message.

Jack?

I believe Lozark is referring to the belt strap top she wears.

Jack doesn't give off a sense of sexuality with her appearance, to me anyway.

New Bioware's outfit DLC:Give Jack a sweater.
"It must be cold in the engine room, and Jack always wears such a shameless clothes!".

Next step - Jack  with Miranda's hair. Actually I would enjoy trolling her like that :P Give us heels Bioware - it's not a women if it's not on heels.

I second that. Jack doesn't portray a stereotypical display of feminine wiles in order to gain attention.

Is it sad that I consider that uglier than her shaved hairstyle?

No, cuz she looks perfect with her shaved head. That would just be forced, if they gave her flowing locks like Miranda.

I'm not sure about if it's a "sad" thing, but the hair like that takes at least a hour to get right. And a lot of hairspray to not mess it up while fighting. Now think about Jack, and hairspray. I can't believe I'm analyzing it
Still, hairy Jack looks hot. Compromise? Short, frizzly hair maybe.

The hair bun probably isn't even her choice. More likely she wears it because of Alliance regulations and it's easier to fit a helmet over that.

Sure, true statement. I thing regulations allow open hair as long as it does not hit shoulder length. There ARE women with open hair in the military, like Chakwas, but their hair is rather short. Maybe Ashley's hair was longer already and therefore she had to use techniques to reduce its length. A hairbun comes in handy.

However, doing the bun damages the hair ... am I right? I just wonder why Ash never cut her hair for duty, after all, doing the bun every day damages her hair so she has to cut it one day. Also it takes time: keeping that hair doesn't make much sense imo.

Whatever ... I don't think Ash's bun is "granny style" or ugly. I like it. Actually, it fits to Ashley and doesn't make her looking bad or unsexy. :innocent:

Eh, so Jack's not a perfect example. Substitute her mention with Rachel from Ninja Gaiden or Ivy from Soul Calibur.

Great example of how to ruin a character, right there.

That looks horrible and doesn't give off that Jack vibe.

If it's alliance regulations, then they apparently don't apply to FemShep

Maybe Ash's hair is long enough that it needs to be kept in a bun, while FemShep's isn't? (same goes for most other female Alliance officers)

Indeed, but isn't there only one hair style for femshep that evens pushes the boundry though?

In any case I don't focus on the hair for the outfit. (unless her hair is down in combat, which really annoys me coming from a military family. Bioware really needs to be more careful with that, I still cringe everytime I see that guard salute wrong with legion)

The new outfit just doesn't look all that sexy to me. That black concept art outfit looks the best out of all that I have seen, but I still roll my eyes at the damn boob window. When will bioware understand that you can be sexy and not be showing off your assets?

they used to, back in ME1.

also - there's more then one reason to wear a bun, outside of regulations.  most common I would say is becasue its very comfortable and in case of Ashley's loose bun - super quick to make up and easy to maintain.

Actually, I never really thought about this tell you guys mentioned it, but showing change in appearance doesn't necessarily mean change for worse. It can show growth because of certain events that shaped what their outlook is now. For example Jack, her new appearance still has that Jack vibe, at least for me and it still keeps her sense of "f*ck off", lol. This makes me curious about a certain detail for Ashley. What if she still changed her hair for ME3, but it was a different style, instead of the one she has currently, maybe let loose on the back, while not interfering with her vision (which seems to bother some people from a realistic viewpoint, which I understand). I understand that this argument comes from a lot of different perspectives as well and not just her hair, but Bioware has stated that she has some sort of heavy armor, correct? So I won't really argue that point till I see her in game and further in the story, not just Earth.

Dude she has MORE coverage in this outfit than her shirt and cargo pants from ME1. Her shirt and cargo pants were made of fabric, the new outfit has armor padding on it and covers her arms and hands. It's full body not a space bikini! soetimes I think the outfit hater just need something to whine about.Image IPB

Boobs sell.

But seriously, I'm only going to pop my head in here, then probably run away before I, like so many others, get set on fire;

We may not know the "Story," reasons behind her new look, but from where we came from in ME1, Ash definitely wasn't the type to bounce around in a cute little jacket and thigh high boots. She also didn't strike me as the type to wear "Armor padding," while still showing her cleavage.

http://img3.imagesha...6/ashleyme3.jpg

She's your typical "Woman in a man's world," tomboy character, with a love for poetry thrown in for spice, and she her self famously says that she prefers thick armor with a big gun; this is why so many of us raged when we saw her "Outfit." Because at the time (And even now.) we haven't been given any logical, story based reason to believe this isn't a character crisis.

Add to the mix, that many Bioware fans have become increasingly worried with the company's new "Direction." I.E, trying to cater to people who think coming in on the THIRD title of a TRILOGY is a GOOD thing, the shoddy and linear way they handled so many of ME2's story related material (Horizon, Cerberus, the Collectors, the list goes on.) and such.

And there you'll have found several reasons why we "Haters," are "Hating." When really, all most of us are doing is voicing concern over a story many of us have grown attached to. (I say most, because unfortunately, there are many more it seems that are brainless consumers who DO just want to pick a fight.)
