Very interesting, guess it just
shows how people's mindsets and outlooks are vastly different. Because
as a female, I'm really not bothered at all with Ashley's look or
uniform. Yes, she's slightly more "dolled up" I suppose but it isn't
nearly as blatant as certain characters appearances.

But whatever, to each their own.

One could argue that was the "theme" of
ashleys character. She didn't need to be dolled up or "blatant" (or
alternatively shocking) as the other characters to stand out or even be
attractive if that is the rout you want to take with her. Down to earth,
heavy armor, and big gun.

A casual outfit is one thing but the
outfit itself is supposed to be a uniform of some kind. I just don't
like it, its too gaudy in my opinion. We already have tali, jack, liara,
kasumi, samara, and miranda to do all the showboating

They'd look ugly with that hair as well.

But seriously, I'm only going to pop my head in here, then probably run away before I, like so many others, get set on fire;

We may not know the "Story," reasons behind her new look, but from where we came from in ME1, Ash definitely wasn't the type to bounce around in a cute little jacket and thigh high boots. She also didn't strike me as the type to wear "Armor padding," while still showing her cleavage.

http://img3.imagesha...6/ashleyme3.jpg

She's your typical "Woman in a man's world," tomboy character, with a love for poetry thrown in for spice, and she her self famously says that she prefers thick armor with a big gun; this is why so many of us raged when we saw her "Outfit." Because at the time (And even now.) we haven't been given any logical, story based reason to believe this isn't a character crisis.

Add to the mix, that many Bioware fans have become increasingly worried with the company's new "Direction." I.E, trying to cater to people who think coming in on the THIRD title of a TRILOGY is a GOOD thing, the shoddy and linear way they handled so many of ME2's story related material (Horizon, Cerberus, the Collectors, the list goes on.) and such.

And there you'll have found several reasons why we "Haters," are "Hating." When really, all most of us are doing is voicing concern over a story many of us have grown attached to. (I say most, because unfortunately, there are many more it seems that are brainless consumers who DO just want to pick a fight.)

Thank you, that last bit especially. You forgot to add whiners to the list though.

To be fair just transplanting miranda's head on someones head would make anyone look ugly mostly because the hair was made specifically for miranda's head.

Oh? I might not know Merriam Webster's version of the word, but she seems to fit it to me; a woman who seems to contradict "Social Norms," by being more masculine, working in a mostly masculine field, and gernerally displaying more masculine traits than what most would consider "Feminine."

What would you call her? Soldier Girl?

Which succesfully describes about half the human population on this earth. Ashley is a tomboy by definition. Woman and tomboy are not mutually exclusive.

Oh please, tell me we're not going to wade through the infinite layers of semantics and psuedo-feminism are we? Because it never gets anywhere, and it was hardly my point. Which was:

She has a basic character archetype, just like every other character in the game, (And almost every story in existance.) and she adheres to it every step of the way in ME1. Its not a bad thing, because its very similar to how people are in reality; some people are jerks, some people are saints, some people are crooks, some are philanthropists. I wasn't insulting her, if anything, I was defending her character's basic values and character traits.

EDIT:

To say thanks to xxSgt_Reed_24xx  and Nashiktal  for agreeing and making me appear sane. :P

EXACTLY! Good post.
The vast majority aren't crying how they're going to boycott the series, or all future games, or whatever.

Its just a raising of hands then asking  "Hey guys, whats going on here? Care to elaborate on this? What is the logical reason for this?"

lol. Well...I was hoping the ME series was going to be a series of logic that shirked the "quick, lets put cheerleaders and zombies in a game to make it popular" mentality.

Alas - it would appear I will have to stick with choice / consequence and story to get my fix. :( Sad days.

You mean like FemShep? Don't count on it. As a result of it's growing popularity BioWare has taken Mass Effect in a more Hollywood direction regarding its female characters other than Shepard. Very disappointing honestly.

You act like her tshirt and pants were baggy, they clung to her jsut as much only this uit doesn't seem to ahve wrinkles. The alliance shirts in ME1 were so tight you could see Kaidan and Malesheps ABS. Hell this suit probably lets ashley breathe better. second the Jacket covers her hips so there's no "wedgie", it goes down to her thighs wher you can see she has a seperate pair of pants. Her old outfits showed it off just as well same with all three versions of armor in ME1:
Image IPB
Same with female Shepard.

and Ashley has the same body model as Femshep and you can see how she looks from the side:
Image IPB

Look how tight Kaidan's shirt is, it contours to his muscles but no one's complaining about that, Vega's shirt does the same thing and no one's complaining!

Me1 was just as adept at showing off the females and the Males for the player, they chose a different outfit that's shines more to refelct her status as a spectre because you've never seen a Spectre besides Shepard in casual clothing. Don't act like "oh it's ME3 they're sexing all the women up!" No one's been sexed up their fashion tastes have changed djust as much as they have, it's called maturing. All characters need it or they're sucky ass static character and we'd be raning and raving more if bioware made them static. There is Nothing wrong with her outfit It's a great addition to her now that it reflects her status change from a gunnery chief to an incredibly skilled Spectre.

EVERYONE'S Assests get their own spotlight, it's never jsut been Ashley through the series, it's been everyone. The whole time you jsut didn't notice it until you got all upset about some changes.Image IPB
