So, why does Ashley look radically different?

I don't know why BW thought white pants were a good look.

Probably the same reason they've got those atrocious buttplates on all the armour.

You could at least justify the butt plates with "well if they fell they might need some padding there."

Edit: @those links:

Or if you get shot or catch shrapnel there. It can happen.

I've been away for a while, but I have to comment on this pic.  I find it a bit of a let down that you can come up with something like this and Bioware can't do the same.  You incorporated her current armor - at least with the shoulder parts - and produced something that looks functional and is also stylized (albeit heavily).  It really has me thinking that imagination isn't a real focus with the ME team or [I should say] hasn't been since production of ME2 began.

Awesome job!

bioware designed that armor.  for one of the Cerberus soldiers.  so they do in fact have plenty of imagination.  its just that you see, Cerberus soldiers don't need to look sexy, being just regular mooks you kill.  so with their usual attention to detail - bioware gives them great armor, without going for the "sexy feminine" (and I use those words very VERY loosly) look.

Thanks!

Like was said, BioWare did design this armor for a Cerberus goon, and it's not the cleanest edit, but to me this already conveys so much better the practical, hard nosed and lethal soldier that Ashley is. It's consistent with the roots of the character as we discovered them in Mass Effect, and to me, that sensibility and confidence to be her own person is miles sexier than a vacuum-packed rubber getup could ever hope to be.

Hey man, it's not like Gears is some force of evil just because it's a shooter.

(But I do love that armor.)

You know despite the fact that the gears trilogy isn't exactly bioware quality writing I have to admit their depiction of women is more progressive than most.

They wear more realistic armor, yet handle the big guns while not relegated to "background tasks", and despite the "still clean as a model at her shoot" look I was pleasantly surprised. Not perfect but damn it if its not a step in the right direction.

Just seeing women on the line, even as background mooks who die (which background mooks do in ridiculous frequency) really helps to drive home the "end of the world" feel.

Well then I stand corrected and offer my apologies for the things I've said regarding the armor. I never saw it before.

To clarify, I think the buttplates are justified, it's just the way they're implemented looks really silly. :P

True it does look similar.

Seriously though the reason I'm bagging on the outfit is because of the pants and that ridiculous ass shot (unintentional and at least not as headdesk worthy as Miranda's) because of said white pants. If she was wearing black/dark blue pants it wouldn't have looked nearly as ridiculous. So yes if BW changes the pants color (and preferably the top because I don't think that color flatters her at all). I'll be happy.

And before anyone starts going "everyone had ass shots with the armor in ME1." yeah EVERYONE did. I got as many images of Kaidan's rear end as I did Ash's. (and more of Shep's than both of them). It wasn't relegated to just the females.

The funny part is, that you wouldn't care about Ashley's ass with darker "panties". I did some (crappy editing), but here you go - compare original vs edited variant:

Original

Image IPB
Edited

Works for me good enough.

While, true that it looks much better in the darker version... the ridiculousness of that attire still exists. They need to A. Give her something else entirely

or

B. Cut the Jacket off at her waist to get rid of the mini-skirt look. Change from thigh high wedges to combat boots that cut off at a normal length. Give her some more armored or padded or w/e pants to look less spandex-y. And for the love of god put some more armor on the jacket... two littl shoulder plates with holes in the middle of them will hardly protect against anything.

You want to see what a female spectre should be wearing... look no further than Vasir. That's practical, protective, and would like mature/professional/PRESENTABLE in front of admirals/brass/council/etc.

Then again, you tell that to Casey and he'd say... "asari aren't female" ... lmao

I wish more people would just not give a **** until the game came out.

PLEASE NO!

That's exactly what they want. People to just shut up and give them money. If no one complained... there would be no changes, no tweaks, and a worse game for it.

Besides, sometimes people on these forums have good ideas... and they should be seen.

AMEN!

Oh.. and that color scheme fits her a lot better than that gaudy blue!

Just needs to allow the player the option of what squadmates wear. That way, everyone's happy. BTW, that above doctored Cerberus outfit on Ash looks BAD ASS >:0
