ugh, damn software! my poor college student pockets dont run deep enough for this ****! lol

I would strongly recommend checking out the offers Microsoft has on Windows 7 for students, as was posted earlier in the thread:

Some universities give them out for free even. I got mine that way.

urgh, i went to that site for the 30 dollar student copy but they just give you a download online and the download seems to pretty much NOT work for macs, it just says save it to desktop (cant do) and then double click it to start (doesnt start when hit open). It brings up a random page of gibberish.so i have no idea how to get that download into working with bootcamp.

Proof or get out.

Woops I don't see your point.  Those are professional cards and are compatible with pretty much every OS out there.

The point is, Gaming GPU's are made for PC, because that is the primary gaming platform.

Outside of the Professional Ultra-High-End cards, the best you can get for Mac is the GTX 285 on a Mac Pro.

Whether you're getting a computer based in Windows, OSX, or Linux you can find high-priced manufacturers with very high-quality computers.

I myself prefer windows.

You forgot the best part.

Am I the only one that gets the images in my head of a really noir scene, with sad music, and a macbook discarded, crying in the gutter?

What is the extension for the file?  If it happens to be an ISO, you should be able to burn it so that it's a bootable CD.

not sure what you mean by extension, but its name is DLMWin7HP32US.exe and in the gibberish page at the top it does say this "This program cannot be run in DOS mode". i just stopped by my universities tech center and that guy knows jack **** cuz he said you cant dual boot windows seven at all and obviously tons of people have -.-

You probably have to download it on a windows computer, then burn the ISO so you can run it from your optical drive. I had to do that when installing it on my Vista 32-bit system (was going to 64-bit, caused a lot of problems) and it worked fine.

I've got Windows 7 BootCamped on my Unibody MBP. The character creator runs well... I'm considering both the PC and PS3 version, but I'm not sure... I want to see the reviews of the PS3 graphics first.

Sooo, how did you go about doing it? did you have a hardcopy disk of windows seven and had you already bootcamped with vista or xp?

There is only one thing wrong with Vista...

"are you sure you want to do that?"

"No, are you REALLY sure?"

"doing that could perhaps, possibly, sometimes be a bad idea."

"Maybe we should talk about this before you do that."

"Fine, I'll run the Microsoft software update from Microsoft....But don't blame me if it's a virus. I'm just doing what you tell me...Eventually"

That bites that the downloader is an exe. This post says there is now an option to download the student version as an .iso file, which you should be able to burn (at lower speed) on your mac and then install W7. If not, you may have to download first on a pc and burn a disk before installing via bootcamp.

I think if you email Microsoft or Digital River they'll let you download the ISO for free since you already bought the other one. Just explain the issue.

Well, if the post on apple's site is correct, the exe file you downloaded is only the installer, which then downloads Windows. I would hope you should be able to download that again (or the iso) without paying twice, but maybe someone else can confirm this.

Otherwise you could try burning the exe file to a cd, and just copy that to a pc?

It's really simple. If your macbook pro is indeed new you'll have no problem running it.

1. Run Bootcamp

2. Install Windows 7

3. Install Drivers

4. Play the game

I have an imac and been playing Fallout on max settings, plus ever other game.

A well mantained OS won't take two minutes for it to start, and even then, hibernation tends to shorten that dramatically anyway.  Macs aren't really secure from infection.  It's like saying a business is secure because no one has robbed it. Once it happens, it will happen badly. In fact Mac OS X has been breached quite easily already.

I understand this point of view from a person not very familiar with Macs. I have several PC:s and Macs in my company.

1) OSX does not need "maintaining". However, a windows machine without maintaining is a ticking time bomb.

2) Macs are not even in the same universe PC, when talking about viruses. There are only a few viruses on OSX, and most of those are old models, not working with newer operating systems. Besides, many of these so-called-viruses on Mac are in fact trojans. Decease because of the stupidity of the user.

A Windows machine without a Virusblocker software is -dead-.

3) OSX is a very secure operating system compared to Windows. There's just no way around it.

4) I'm sad that Apple took the "Macs are not for gaming."-stance. Macs were great for games back in the 80's. But then they decided to upgrade their image in the eyes of businesses...

I haven't used antivirus software for years. Maybe you stop using your public torrents if you are so afraid of sporkeh.

Well... Congratulations! Good for you! And what a clever picture you found! :o

Seriously. If you run a Windows machine without a virus software... Nevermind. <_<

Sadly, we have to take materials from our customers, and they come in many forms. Since we also use PC:s in my company, we HAVE TO use virus software. We get about 4 pcs of infected materials / month.

Our Macs do not have those problems. Luckily.

The real solution to your problem has been stated more than once. Buy a PC and buy Windows 7. You can build a very good gaming PC for about $500-700. Don't forgot that Apple would be bankrupt and part of history now if it weren't for them selling MP3s.

I still like this logic. Buying a new computer for $500 vs. installing Windows for $30 on the one you already have... great advice.
