The universe is due to shift. Each shift results in mass extintions throughout the entire universe. The only stable places where life can survive is inside dark space and the entrance to darkspace. Unfortunatly it has to be modified so that the essence of a race is distilled into it's purest form and placed in an ambulatory container.
The Keepers are individuals that have been distilled and placed inside a carapace resembling insects. Unfortunatly the ID or psyche is diluted due to the liquifaction process.
For there to be enough distilled essence to build a conscienceness multiple organisms must be distilled.
Then the essence is stored inside the massive sized container.
It is the only way a race of organic beings can survive the shift, period. The Reapers are your salvation.

That, is actually a very interesting idea. And not so ridiculous, I think.

Unlike my offering, which is that the Reapers will be defeated by firing pyjaks out of a cannon.

Shepard finds the 'Engine of Creation' and becomes a god incarnate. Accidentally makes himself, Normandy and everyone onboard immortal(inc. Love interest) eventually going mad with absolute power and turns it on himself, splitting himself into five separate beings with a single personality trait dominant. All of them, still pretty damn mad, but have different personality traits as dominant going from Paragon, Paragade, Neutral, Renagon, Renegade.

Well, I wouldn't be surprise actually. Some they share some rare physical traits, the blue eyes, lightish coloured skin and so on..

Though it f***s with my Shepard's backstory somewhat. I have it that his father was a P.O.W from the FCW and didn't meet his son til he was four - though it had been sometime of a fortuitous accident.

Commander Shepard is actually in a psycheward, still traumatized from losing his crew in Akuze. His "Squad" in the "Normandy general hospital" have nothing been more than other patients and the council are his "Psychiatrists" with the Turian Councillor being the most aggressive one.

in this world, Tali is actually a severely burnt patient who was admitted after her workaholic father neglected her which led to her accident.

The story ends with Shepard traveling back to Akuze and "beating the Reapers" with his "squadmates" who he did not get relocated or "killed" in his own words during the "suicide mission" where they tried to escape the hospital.

then the Thresher maws attack.
