Most of my scary experiences have involved sleep hypnogogia. When my brother and I were sharing a bunkbed and I was laying on the top, I would see photographs of different houses flashing on the cieling. Sometimes I would hear noises, mainly priest chanting. That scared me the most, the chanting. I don't know why I found Christian chanting or whatever you call it scary at the time. There were times where I'd imagine some lady with a hunchback standing at the other side of the room or this green, floating skull chatting it's teeth. It was some pretty scary ****.

There was an experience that scared me that didn't include hallucinations and that was when I woke up in the middle of the night to find bugs crawling over my bed, but the times I had when I did experience hypnogogia, which I think didn't stop happening until I was twelve, was what stood out for me.

When I was in elementary school, I walked on an icy creek, fell through the ice and got soaked. After that I wandered my neighborhood to get home but couldn't find my house, but my mom eventually left the house and searched the neighborhood and found me. I was laying on the ground in the cold at that point.

Well, at this summer camp I would go to, sometimes the staff would go around in the middle of the night with a gorilla mask and wake people up. It was more funny than scary to me, but it scared the hell out of some people.

I stepped on a water moccasin when I was fifteen. Very luckily, snake-proof leggins are a requirement for anyone in my family to go hunting. It bit the leggings, and my father shot it. Scariest thing ever.

I had a night terror quite some time ago, I was watching myself face down on my bed, like the out of body visuals and someone mounted me from behind, leaned in with a knife and put it to my throat, and all I could do is watch. When I was finally able to grab my senses I was all out of sorts. That was the scariest thing I ever experienced, way too bloody real.

I thought I was going to die on my way to St. Maarten, I was on a plane that was experiencing really bad turbulance. We had to buckle up and the stewardess's had to take seats and buckle up. The pilot came on the intercom and said we would be fine don't panic. Everyone was scared as ****.

I have had several near death car accidents.

I saw a large orb of white light in 1994 that I reported to Mufon. I think it was a real UFO if you want the whole story personal message me. I don't tell it to anyone unless they think I'm crazy.

I am American Indian/Native American. One thing that did scare me as a child didnt happen to me, but happend to my cousins.

Now being Indian meant growing up being told to not do certain things. One thing you never do is play outside at night because night is when the spirits roam. Another, never play down by the creek, things happen down there. Now spirits are like humans, they are capable of good and bad but mostly like to play and pull tricks on unsuspecting children.

Once when I was a little girl, my cousins were allowed to play in the early evening. I wasn't allowed to go with them as I was too young. A few hours after sunset, after being repeatedly called into the house by my aunt, they all came scrambling into our house, their faces were white.

My uncle asked what happened. My oldest cousin told my uncle that they were playing hide and seek down by the creek. Even after it got dark and our aunt was calling they kept playing. It was only until my aunt called one last time with a dire warning that they decided to come in. So my oldest cousin started calling out for each kid. In the low light, she was able to make only darkened figures she explained but she was couting to make sure no one was left. When she called for the last kid to come out, two fingures started walking toward the group. She called the persons name and one of the figures stopped.

Seeing this, the kids all gathered together and were watching this figure. My oldest cousin called to it and asked who it was. The figure said not a word but crouched down and started stalking toward the kids. One of them screamed and they all bolted toward the house. One of my other cousins said that when they reached the light of the street, the figure was gone.

My uncle told us that long ago, when our people still roamed the plains. There were stories about the creek. That figures walked along it at night. You could see these black figures walking among the trees when the moon was full.

We never played by that creek after dark again.

I used to live directly next door to the church the Warrens (the real life ghost hunters from the Amityville Horror) used to get their exorcisms performed at. That made for a few very fun times, let me tell you.

The graveyard attatched to the church is noted for being one of the most haunted locations in the state, so we developed a sort of blase attitude about the supernatural. It seemed something strange was always going on in the next yard.

I had a surfing accident that almost broke my neck. Had half of my face bloodied and cerebrospinal fluids leaking out of my nose for days. Miraculously it left little to no visible scars, except that I am incapable of twisting my neck to face directly backwards like I used to.

Severe anxiety attacks are about the most unpleasant thing to experience I can think of. They come in different flavors, too - sometimes you just feel trapped inside of yourself, like a caged monkey that rams against the bars and screams like a banshee. You can't stop moving - you get up and pace around, trying to work this overwhelming sense of distress out of your system (to no avail, usually).

Other times, you feel just completely paralyzed with fear - you might not even know what it is you're afraid of exactly, but you feel it nonetheless. Frightening thoughts of all kinds swarm through your mind, and you can't get them out no matter how hard you try. A sense of dread comes upon you, as if your very health and safety was in critical danger - even though it's not (but you still experience it anyway).

Those are easily the worst moments of my life, I think - I've been unfortunate enough to experience them many, many times. I can only hope not to experience them so often and so intensely in the future.

I sometimes have really terrifying nitemares. I’m not sure if that counts, but here we go. I’ve been having this reoccurring one where I’m pulling into my driveway & as I’m walking up to my door, I drop my keys. Naturally, I bend down to pick them up & as I do so I’m shoved by a very large man. He then begins to kick me in my stomach, & after a couple minutes, I trip him & get away. I run into the house, call 911, then run to the window to see if he’s out there (stupid, I know). He throws a brick through the window & climbs in. I scream, run upstairs, go into my bedroom & lock the door. Now, I have a balcony outside my bedroom, so I open the sliding door in hopes it will distract him. After I do that, I hide. Then, he breaks in. Of course he goes to check the balcony because I’ve opened the door. As he’s outside, I run to the door, shut it, & lock it. He’s trapped. I think I’m safe so I run downstairs, grab my keys, & get in my car. As I’m pulling out of my driveway, the man puts a knife to my throat, & says “GOTCHA”. After that, I wake up.

Hmm, I got hit by cars twice while I was on my bike. Came out okay the first time, but the second time my right foot looked a bit like it had gone through a meat-grinder. It ultimately healed up okay. Currently, my scariest experiences usually involve opening my work inbox and checking my e-mails.

I used to take naps a lot and have a lot of sleep paralysis and accompanying anxiety and hear noises (or completely random strings of words like the llama song, except not as funny) and see things.

Also someone tried to break in one time, that was unfortunate.

One time, I was attacked by a bear in a tophat. I had assumed he had just eaten a white-tie attendee, but I think he may have just been that dapper.

My first seizure when I was 10.  Well, it wasn't my first but the first I could remember since I had them as an infant.  I didn't know it was a seizure at the time and don't remember at all what occurred before.  My parents voices were crying for me to wake up but they were echoing. Also, everything was white. I swear, I thought I had died.  I finally came to and everything was finally clear but I was exhausted.  I had many epileptic seizures after that but I never had them where everything was white and echoing.

Oh yes, i forgot to mention the big one - nearly dying at a concert! Coheed & Cambria - I got stuck in the middle of the crowd while trying to get a bloody picture of the band - literally could not move and could not get out, so I was kind of close to suffocating until I started panicking and screaming, etc. Finally managed to get out of the crowd, but I've not been to a concert since then. While I would probably go to another concert, I'd make reeeeally sure never to get into a situation like that again.

Ok since Halloween is fast approaching i will also share a story. When i was a young un i was travelling with my father down to England to collect a load for up north. We arrived at the depot and seeing someone standing in the middle of the loading dock my father asked him for directions to loading bay x.

We then went inside the transport office to hand over the invoices and my father got talking with the transport manager.  He was told that the load would take place the morning after round 4am since all the staff were on leave and my father mentioned to him that we had just spoken to someone near the loading bay. He asked for a description of this man since noone should be there.

Medium build/height, 50 years old or something , glasses etc and the guy goes pure white as my father gives him more details. He then tells us that this "guy" has been dead for 15 years, since a work accident back in the late 60's. Ofc my father leaves chuckling thinking he is taking the ****** by pulling some scam on us (hur hur those dumb scots). The ride back home was quiet though i remember that.

I got mugged while walking home from the local library in my town back in late summer 2009.

I was walking home from the library as it was dark out, and where I go it's pretty dark and it's hard to see. As I was passing through, this guy comes up to me from my right and punches me hard enough that my glasses fell off and I fell down. I tried getting back up, but he kicked me in my stomach and I fell down again. he kept attacking me.

Literal words that were said:

Me: SH*T MAN F*CK OFF MAN I DIDN'T DO NOTHING TO YOU

Mugger: GIMME ME YO SH*T B*TCH

Me: I GOT NOTHING MAN LEAVE ME ALONE *SSHOLE

Me: HELP! SOMEBODY F*CKING HELP ME

Mugger: I AIN'T PLAYING B*TCH GIMME YO SH*T

(after continuously getting hit)

Me: TAKE MY F*CKING PHONE MAN STOP HITTING ME MAN F*CK OFF

He took my phone from my pocket and ran. I laid there for a few minutes more, then got up and staggered home. My mother took one look at me and she asked me if it was those kids at school (they bullied me a lot). I told her no, and that I was robbed. She got up and grabbed her phone and was dialing the police's phone number. (cue stupid part from me) I asked her not to call the police, and that it's best if we just let it go.

I never understood even to this day why I said that, or why she listened to me. In the end, I had a cut on my cheek and some bruising. I no longer like being outside when it's dark.
