I find myself curious lately as to the state of mind of other peoples characters (I guess this would primarily apply to those who like to get into the roleplaying) These characters being both Wardens from the first game, and Hawkes from the second =D and how these characters feel about certain matters and their general personality

What are your characters thoughts on such things as religion, politics - including mages & templars, qunari etc
What are your characters thoughts on the company they keep? and how do these thoughts and motivations develop over the course of your stories?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

For my Warden: Darien Cousland is a devoted Andrastian at the beginning of the game, ladies man who likes to flirt around alot and is in support of the Templars and like his father and the couslands seem in general is a devout loyalist to the crown and the Theirin bloodline...He is of a dimplomatic personality and is friendly to all and tries to turn the other cheek when insulted.. The code of the chevaliers intrigues him and he tries to uphold the Knights Code and the ways of the Perfect Knight (The real life ones.. Dont know what they may be in game =D)   He & Morrigan fall in love and as a result his views on Templars and the chantry begin to change slowly as time goes on..

As a result he helps the Mages collective maintain freedom and begins to Sympathize with the cause of some mages in their desire to be free.. He still however remains an Andrastian however not as upholding of the chantrys ways - Rylocks actions in illegally going against the crowns wishes and the wardens right of conscription as well as Alistairs support for the mages cause also greatly influences him in his beliefs - He now no longer really takes the chantry seriously apart from its base teachings - not the people within it however. Still showing them kindness and respect but nothing really beyond that.

Having a great respect for the Theirin line seeing them as rightful rulers he placed him on the Throne (alongside Anora) and is willing to question him if he disagrees but will respect Alistairs wishes if need be and follow him - Unless asked to do something extremely morally quesitonable but that is yet to happen =D

He has a great respect and love of Ferelden and its people and would most likely be willing to break even his Warden Neutrality to defend them should they be threated - By Darkspawn, Orlesians.. it doesn't matter.

He got along with all his companions, becoming friends with them his best friends being Alistair & Zevran. & loving Morrigan. He also got along with Sten and found the Qun quite intriguing he does not have a hatred for the Qun or their Philosophy finding some of what they do interesting - not agreeing with it all though... But its probably safe to say he hasn't formed a true opinion on the Qun as of yet.

As for my Hawke: Tristan Hawke is an atheist and has no respect for the chantry or its beliefs.. his personality and beliefs in most but not all cases being the opposite of my Wardens. He does not believe anyone has a given right to rule and so does not really respect authority figures either.. He believes in the same philosophy of Morrigan's - Survival of the fittest. He has an Aggressive personality and is straight to the point with his conversations and doesn't take insults or threats lightly and doesn't help people without gain - unlike my warden =P

He is a mage and so believes in mage freedom no matter the cost - Disagreeing with Anders who happens to be his best friend however on useage of forbidden magic as he thinks it is useful and should be allowed.. He begins to think otherwise for a while after his mothers death as the cause of such magic and so swears off it in the end.. Only to come back to it later during Merediths Annulment.. He has clashes with Aveline due to him not really caring for others unless it suits him.. And has clashes with his brother due to him becoming a Templar. He also has clashes with Fenris due to his support of the circles and distrust of mages.. As a result they are rivals. As well as Sebastian for supporting the chantry =P

He despises the Templar order and anyone in it.. Even though is forced to put up with and even help them when Meredith (finally) discovers he is an Apostate Mage.. He doesn't really care for Ferelden considering Kirkwall his home now and feeling he didn't really belong when in Ferelden anyway. He gets along with Merrill, Isabela & Varric - Being lovers with Isabela.

He doesn't mind the Qunari up until what they do at the end of Act II.. then he despises them.. Hating them for what they attempted.. Plus for their views on Mages.. As a result he hated Tallis =P

Well my characters are generally world improvers and changers. Trying to mend the wounds of the world so to speak. None of them typically fit to any existing society of Thedas. Not even the Wardens.

How interesting.
Neria Surana was a circle mage, knowing nothing of the real world. She helps her best friend Jowan (who she consider her little brother - even if he is properly older than her.) Even if he is revealed as a blood mage she stand by her decesion and is taken to the Grey Wardens. Finding herself with a new found freedom, but also responsibility Neria fuses the Grey Wardens 'what ever' it takes with her new best friend Morrigan's pragamtism, she still tries to do right, but only to the degree that it won't compromise herself. Furthermore she fells slowly's in love with the antivan assisassin Zevran who influence her into thinking that death happens. As a result she ends up as a selfish and egoistic person who just wants to enjoy herself and the freedom she has been given.
In the end she places her friend Alistar alone on Fereldan's throne and talks him into doing the dark ritual with Morrigan since she trust the other apostate, after the archdemons is defeated she decides to travel the world with Zevran.
In awakening her good friend Alistar ask her if she won't take up the mantle of warden commander and she agrees to do it temporality because Alistar is her friend and Zevran has to deal with the crows anyway. However, she hadn't counted on talking darkspawn. When Amerinthine is sieged she decides to save the city because she has faith that the Vigil she has built is strong enough to stand on its own. She takes the Archethects deal because she wants and extra ally for the incoming fight with the Mother and hopes that if the Architecht has any sinister plans he will at least wait with them untill her calling (thus it is not her problem anymore). After the whole talking darkspawn fiasco Neria decides that she has had enough of saving the world and join her lover in Antiva to fight the crows untill it is time for her calling. She never hunts Morrigan down since her friend asked her not to follow and Neria respoect her wishes.

My Surana Warden was from the Alienage in Denerim, forcibly taken from his family, and didn't hold to the anti-mage beliefs of the Andrastian faith. He didn't know what the truth was about the inception of Thedas or his people, but he didn't believe the Chantry of Andraste held any answers. My Surana Warden saw the Chantry controlled Circle as a prison, and didn't agree with what the Chantry or the templars did to his people. He was an exceptional student, "Irving's star pupil" as Uldred notes. He saw merit in the Libertarian position. In meeting Sten, he saw the Qunari view of their mages as little different than the rigid view the templars held of their own mages. He found Morrigan fascinating because she was a free mage who held no illusions about the Chantry or its templars, and inevitably left Ferelden into the ancient Eluvian in the Dragonbone Wastes because he trusted her.

When he became a Grey Warden, he took his role seriously, and knew how dangerous the darkspawn were as a foe and a threat to all life on Thedas. He was mostly pragmatic, choosing to become a blood mage, sparing the Anvil of the Void, and selecting Bhelen as the future King of Orzammar because he saw the choices as beneficial to the order and the defeat of the darkspawn. He did show compassion, by giving a silver to the boy, assisting the people of Ferelden in dire times, convincing Zathrian to let go of his need for revenge, and killing Caladrius instead of using the blood magic ritual to enpower himself against the Archdemon.

The Warden convinced Alistair to hardened his personality and marry Queen Anora because he saw it as the best solution for the nation, even if it wouldn't be the happiest for Alistair. He spared Loghain, because pragmatically his leadership of his armies would be better secured with him still alive (and he afforded others a second chance since defeating the Fifth Blight was the most important goal). When he had the opportunity to ask for anything, he asked Queen Anora to free his people from the Chantry and the Order of Templars, and she publicly agreed with his royal boon. Despite keeping to the role as a Grey Warden, he wanted his people to be free. He took on the role of Arl of Amaranthine when the time came (as King Alistair wanted), leading the arling as an effective ruler, and killed the Architect because he recognized the threat that intelligent darkspawn posed to all sentient races of Thedas. He saw giving intelligence to the darkspawn could mean a constant Blight, and he recalled how dangerous the darkspawn were when the Archdemon was leading them through intellect. The Warden-Commander expandied his influence with House Dace by going into Amgarrak, and because he saw the value in golems - he was pragmatic about defeating the darkspawn by any means necessary, because they would always be a threat as long as one lived.

Marian Hawke is an idealistic and calm apostate. Who belief that by doing good, she can change the worlds view on apostates. Hiowever Hawke is also very aware of the fact that she is a good person and secretly thinks that she alone knows what is right and wrong. With her father dead Marian is very aware of the fact that she is responsible of the safety of her family and will thus do anything to help them. Marian lost all faith in the Maker when a Darkspawn crushed her little sister and thus had no problem throwing all the chantries teaching away, including warning about blood magic - to her friend and later lovers great distress.
In the first act Marian just wants to restore her mother's nobility so she can place Leandra and Carver in their right full place as nobles, once they are rich Marian plans to leave her family so she can join in the beginning fight against the templars in Kirkwall. Her little brother, however, gets tainted in the Deep Roads and is forced to join the Wardens, Marian who cannot bear that Leandra must lose al her children decides to play noble for a while to please her mother. When Leandra dies, Hawke blames herself and Aveline and decided at the very least she will save the mages who she consideres her people. Leandra's dead is also the beginning of state very Hawke piece by piece looses her respect for Aveline's way.
She is very proud to be the one who tries to negotiate piece with the qunaries and also sense that she has the Arishok's respect. All her trust is broken, however, when Isabella decided to scam with the book and the Arishok beheads the Vicount- She duel the qunari leader, but only because she wants no more people hurt - all her respect for the qunari is gone and thus she doesn't get along with Tallis either and abondand her in the cave.
Having learned that diplamacy doesn't work and feeling that the mantle of champion is just a different set of chains that Meridith uses to keep her in place Hawke sides 100 % with Orsino at the confrontation. Her frustation at being unable to help the mages and Elthina's refusal to listen to her pleas along with the fact that her lover, Anders, is trying to hide something from her in order to 'protect her' (a sentiment she finds irratiing since she consider herself THE protector), slowly makes Hawke more and more agressive and ruthless and fact that the dalish clan learns the hard way as Hawke kills them without regret when they tries to murder her best friend Merrill.
When the chantry explodes Hawke feels a sense of relief that she is finally able throw away the mantle of champion to fight along side her people and she spares her lover without a second thought. She of course sides witht the mages.

Agressive Draveyn Hawk. He is a deserter, he does not care to have forsaken Ferelden that he sees as a lost country, and already part of the past. He has no shame. He would do anything to survive. To survive and take advantage over the others are only his motivations. The only person for whom he felt real feelings, is his sister, even if he is sick to see her whinning about her sad fate as a warden. Get over it Bethany, deal with it, suck it up princess, and stop ****ing about that.

Mages : He has nothing against mages in general, he does not care. But the mages of Kirkwall must be slaughtered according to him after some unpleasant experiences in this city. He fully supports Meredith, and despises Orsino. He will kill all mages possible, help the Templars. Not because he doesn't like mages, but because he is sick of their madness, and instability in Kirkwall. He would kill easily his own sister or Merill, if they showed  any sign of madness or dementia. He said to Anders, go **** off bro. He would kill him because he is so bizarre, but was too lazy at the time. He will kill him after as well.

Politics : Hawk is hungry for power. He wants to oust the Viscount and his whole click incompetent to govern himself. He is also ready to oust Meredith, if she is an embarrassment to his rise to power. He joins forces with her though, because it is the best way to get strong support to access to the government. He will do anything to derail the negotiations with the Qunari, weaken the Viscount and his authority.

He despises Eltina while the enemy is inside the gates of the city. He despises weakness. Hawk is an andrastian, the practice of the faith, well it's not his passion. He doesn't care the chantry, that said he respects their power and authority if they don't threat him or his interests as well.

He fully supports Petrice, the only woman he respects really with his sister ( Warden ), who is not afraid of anything. He is a hero in her eyes, and is an extraordinary woman to his own.  He controls the fanatics and expects to use them one day as a support. He wants to use faith as a weapon and want to see this female again in the future so much interesting to his eyes, the first one in many years.

Qunari are perceived as a threat to eradicate, no mercy will be granted to them.

Hawk save mages that give up, to end the bloody fight, that kill almost everyone. He doesn't want to see Kirkwall without strengh.  He will become finally the viscount.

Agressive-neutral Kanna Hawk !

Greedy and cunning thief when she was a child, her life unstable which is made of adventures of flight and combat, quickly learn her the harshness of life and survival. Bathed in a magical environment  since childhood, she doesn't at all afraid about magic, nor blood magic. Rather, it is useful for her. Much respect for her father which she has always admired the strength and determination, little to her mother that she always found too weak for her taste, not up, Kanna is often rude with her, the rivalry between them is enough strong but there is still love. Carver is her favorite brother, although it always provoked her, she always liked to beat him and give him a beating every time he growls against her. This enabled her to laugh all the time, even when the situation was sad, especially in the moments which followed the fear that the Templars catch them wile they run away. Kanna never liked the Templars who have always forced them to flee, who always forbid them to have true friends around them, and also because her little sister was unhappy, often afraid because of them.

Kanna has grown and learned to fight at the side of her father, then joined the army among the hunters. Already some campaigns to her credit against the chasinds ( she didn't like that, despite she learned many things ) before serving Cailan to Ostagar after have left a while the army. Only the threat of darkspawn against Lothering forced her to come back again. She decides to desert Ferelden she thought lost. She didn't want to fight for a defeated country anymore. The fate of Ferelden will not be her fate, here's her promise.

Personality : Rude and ruthless, loyal. Capable of futile murder if the mood takes her. Little compassion for human life. Selfish, opportunistic, unconcerned by the fate of others, only her and that of her family. Very protective with Bethany that she doesn't think strong enough, used to see her frightened since childhood even if it may annoys her.

Likes : drinking, adventure, dirty jokes of Isabella, the candor of Merrill, the commitment of Anders. Love flashy things and especially to fly them. When she'll become rich, they will be less interesting to her eyes.

Dislikes : Anders rumbling Merril, the constant complaints of Fenris, her dog when he makes everything dirty in her house. Darkspawn, the deep road, anything that takes her to meet monsters or abominations. Do not like Aveline who monitoring her, while respecting the faith and beliefs in what she believes is right. She dislikes the Templars, who represent the authority in her eyes, and boredom. Only the discipline and beautiful boys there are there are interesting for her .

She has no personal opinion on slavery, and considers the fate of the elves indifferently. She just despises them for their weakness. Kanna doesn't like weakness, she is drawn by force, strong men and strong women. Also, Spiritualism draws her a little, while the years pass.

Act 1: Becomes a thief with Athenril. She just despised the Templars at that time, not really concerned by the mages, don't care Kirkwall, just want to leave Gamlen and the lower town.

Act 2: After the arrest of her sister by templars, she is definitely pro-mage and will be fully committed with Anders. She hates Meredith. Petrice and Andrastian alliance against the giants Qunari , that she perceives a as threat. In her eyes the Qun would be worse than the laws of Chantry for her own freedom. And to threat her freedom, it's dangerous. Plus, the spiritualism which agitates her in contact with Sebastian, Anders ( he is also andrastian ), under the influence of Eltina and convinced by the faith of Petrice, She consider herself to be a part of that world made by the creator. She is Andrastian after a true reflection. She doesn't like the chantry, but doesn't want to see Kirkwall converted by the Qun.  She doesn't believe to the peace after spoke with the Arishok, more and more angry and who despise so much humans. Naive not to attack them before. She murders some Qunari and join the Alliance with the fanatics. She desn't like them, but in the war we do not choose our allies face to a powerful enemy.

Act 3 : The death of her mother is an issue for  her, she doubts, and will become more pragmatic, less absolutist, and finally she will think that blood magic isn't necessarily something to defend or a good thing. Now she will pay more attention to the mages, more cautious, and understands that the Templars  aren't necessarily evil, just misguided. Yes, she is flawled and selfish. It took the death of her mother for questioning herself.

Her commitment to assist the Mages, however, isn't affected, because the situation in Kirkwall has become impossible under the jurisdiction of Meredith. she will save the circle, and her sister. Then she leaves Kirkwall.

Feel like uploading my other Hawke:

Rival Hawke:
Bitter and angry because she had to hide her whole life Rival lashes out at everything (Agrressive personality). She is petty and rarely forgive someone for one offense. She prefers to run and hide, but if she can't do that she would attack with all her might. She doesn't help someone if she can't profit from it.
Being a mage herself Rival is not particualry for or against mage-freedom, she would like to be free, but is bitterly aware that she is not that powerfull and she would rather do the templar a favour than compromise the risk of her own freedom - thus Grace team ended up in the circel (Because a larger group of templars were coming), but Fenriyel went free (only Trask knew and she had blackmail on him).
At first she fell in love with Fenris, but she cannot forgive him for leaving her after their first night and while she is pretty surprised that Anders is in love with her. (She was convinced that he hated her.) she takes the chance to gets back at Fenris, and when Anders moves in she lets him do it, because she is actually pretty scared of Vengance (she would never say it out loud, though)
At first she sides with Petrice because there is an angry mob and Rival is not about to fight an angry mob if she can avoid it, but when the final confrontation with the Arishok arrives Rival simply hands Isabella over, because that is the easiest thing to do. She does not enjoy her time as an champion because of the attention and tries (and fails) to avoid being dragged into the fight between Meridith and Orsino. When the end game comes Rival's first intution was to fight with the templars (They were the powers in Kirkwall), but Orsino points out that Rival is a mage and Meridith would kill her as well, so in the end Rival sides with her fellow mages. Anders being her only family left (Carver died in the Deep `Roads) does that Rival can't kill him, she sees it as him winning their six years on going argument about her getting off her ass and actually doing something for somebody else than herself for once.. Fenris sides against Rival at the end battle.

Warden: My Warden, Aedan Cousland, is a bit of a goody-goody. Okay, an extreme goody-goody. He believes in always doing the right thing. He is an Andrastian, much to Morrigan's exasperation, but not an extremely devout one. Despite his religion, however, he fell irrovecably in love with Morrigan. He taught her to be more compassionate, and she taught him to respect magic more (although he never had a disrespect for it, per se; Eleanor and Bryce raised him to be tolerant of every person).

As for the Qunari-- he did not know much about their race before encountering Sten in Lothering. He does not agree with their philosophy, especially regarding women and mages, but ends up becoming good friends with Sten, regardless.

He prefers not to be involved with politics, but when the Landsmeet arrived, he overcame his aversion to the "game" of politics, and arranged a marriage between his best friend, Alistair, and Anora Mac Tir, believing that it was the best way of resolving the Fereldan civil war.

As for the company he kept during the Blight, he was best friends with nearly every one of them. He disagreed with Zevran at first, but still respected him for the oath of loyalty he had pledged to the group. In time, the mutual respect Zevran and Aedan had for each other led to a friendship, which exists to this very day.

Now, however, he keeps quite limited company. After retiring from the post of Warden-Commander, Aedan continued his quest to find the love of his life, Morrigan. He found her, with the help of a circle mage, Finn, and a Dalish elf, Ariane, and left with her through the Eluvian.

They have since been extremely hard to find, but those who do see them say that they are traveling towards Orlais with two small children-- and this is true. The have a son, concieved through the Dark Ritual, who Morrigan named Alexander, and a daughter, concieved after her parents reunited, who they have named Rowan.

Hawke: My Hawke, Cara, has essentially the same morals as Aedan. She believes in doing the right thing, and is an Andrastian as well, though she does not agree with the Chantry's views on magic, being a mage herself. She sided with the mages at the Gallows, and has been on the run with her friends and her love, Fenris, ever since.

When she met Tallis while she was still living in Lowtown, Cara accompanied the elf on her quest to retrieve "The Heart of the Many". She disagreed with Tallis' views on the Qunari, but Tallis' essential kindness despite being a part of the Qun made her reconsider some of her beliefs about the Qunari. She was willing to parley with the Arishok, and was always respectful and kind to him, partially because of Tallis. Cara is indifferent toward Qunari to this day, remembering the honorable Qunari that she has met, but also resenting their invasion of Kirkwall.

As for politics, Cara was never one to be involved with such things.

Her company, while she resided in Kirkwall, adored her. She was young and innocent, earning her the affectionate nicknames of "Babyface" and "Waffles". She was best friends with nearly every one of them, save Merrill. Cara disagreed with Merrill's practice of blood magic, however, once Merrill gave it up and smashed her Eluvian, they became friends. Therefore, much like the Warden's camp in Origins, Cara's companions became a family.

Fenris, however, was her driving force and love throughout the events of Dragon Age 2, despite Anders and Cara's similar beliefs (Anders and Cara were more like brother and sister than anything else). Cara and Fenris were attracted to each other from the beginning, although Cara's practice of magic was a stumbling block for Fenris at first. Cara, however, managed to worm her way into Fenris' heart through her kindness and compassion, as well as the hatred of slavery that she shared with Fenris, and they became friends-- eventually more than that. Their love rose to a beautiful cresendo in Act 3, when Fenris stopped running away from love, and they have been inseperable ever since. They have a daughter together, named Bethany, and are often seen traveling together, evading templars and making their way to Orlais.

And thus far, those are my characters! I already have some idea of what my character for DA3 is going to be like-- if we have the option of playing elves, then she will be one. -hint hint Bioware ;)-

My character Daniel Cousland always belive in doing the right thing and always follow the light side path, he belives in the maker but he belive that all mages deservs to be free.
However he thinks that blood magic is a tool for evil no matter how you use it and he want that art to fall into oblivion.
He always belive that there is another choice rather than take the easy one and if anyone ask for help, he will give it.

He has met many friends and he is firend with every one of his companions Allistair is his best friend. even though many were diffucult to break through he persisted, everyone had a history but none were to be judged. He was taken for the first time when he met leliana by her beauty and personality.

He is a native of ferelden and he will not stand by and watch if it gets either invaded by orlesians or Qunari.

His qunari friend sten who refers to him as Kadan said that the qunari will invade during the wardens lifetime and hoped that he will not find him on the battlefield.

He doesn´t like politics. but he doesn´t care much for the non interference from the wardens which combined with that he did spared the Architect he is not popular by the first warden although he carries great respect and love from the rest of the wardens.

Hmmm... this is going to be more along the lines of Xanthos Aeducan in my fanfic and not the actual game. Some of Xanthos' sentiments may be shared with my other Wardens.

Xanthos Aeducan is a military and politically savvy Dwarf (that studied how to be a Warrior and Rogue) intent on taking the throne of Orzammar. He was trained by his late mother Rhea Aeducan in how to be aware of the Dwarven political structure and how to always be eight steps ahead of everyone else, and one should know that Bhelen is a hack compared to Xanthos. While the throne is his primary goal, he will not murder his family unless he is given good reason to. For months now, he's been suspicious of Bhelen trying to play Xanthos and Trian against one another. While Trian is most assuredly an ass, he is still Xanthos' brother and they do care for one another as brothers should. Much like Jerrik and Brogan Dace.

So, he had been subtly working against Bhelen while maintaining a persona of cluelessness. The day of Xanthos' feast, he met up with his stalwart friend Gorim. Both are very dutiful yet also allow for jokes to be commonplace. As they left the Royal Palace to go attend the Proving being held in Xanthos' honor, Xanthos happened to see a scholar of the Memories being attacked by another Dwarf. Xanthos had a strong sense of truth and justice and after listening in on the quarrel, Xanthos sided with the Scholar. After the Dwarf -- who was a minor noble -- threatened Xanthos, Xanthos ordered him to be assassinated. Publicly. Xanthos is tired of everyone assuming he cannot be ruthless. He can be.

Xanthos and Gorim eventually caught up with Bhelen and Trian, and Trian as usual was being an ass. When Gorim was reprimanded by Trian for one comment, Xanthos assured Gorim that despite Trian being an ass he means well. After conversing with a few merchants, Xanthos discovered that he was to be the more likely candidate for the throne, which pleased him. He then stumbled upon a couple of lovely Dwarven ladies and offered them both a good time if they came back to his place. He was always a very flirtatious and sexual person, for various reasons. Disrespect of the women was never one of those reasons though, so I will say that.

After joining and winning the Proving, he sent the helm to Frandlin Ivo as an act of kindness. Now came the feast. He was then placed into his station as a Dwarven commander, but he first took care of a few things, both political and personal. He conversed with Duncan of the Grey Wardens -- who re-informed Xanthos about the Grey Wardens -- and talked about why he was in Orzammar. Duncan had been searching for new recruits, and said that he had already found one in Orzammar and many others elsewhere but would see if any more popped up in what brief time he had left (the other Warden recruits are going to be from the various origin stories. Some will be both genders, others won't be). When Xanthos asked why Duncan was searching so hard, Duncan told him that it was because a Blight had begun on the surface. Xanthos understood and told him that nights back he had a dream/vision that involved his late mother Rhea informing him of the state of Ferelden. They talked with one another for a little bit.

Xanthos holds great respect for the Grey Wardens and wants to install a permanent base for them (as the DC origin says that the Wardens stay in the Diamond Quarter when they visit, unless I missed something) so that they can help the Dwarves fight the Darkspawn but also do research on them. The Grey Wardens are tasked with helping to protect all people of every race. Later on that night, Bhelen subtly tries to get Xanthos to kill Trian, but Xanthos won't do it.

Oh and before I forget, he didn't side with that noble who would've made Xanthos' house lose money, despite his controversial views on the casteless.

Blah blah blah.... deep roads skirmish where Xanthos finds Trian's already dead body.... gets exiled.... becomes a Warden, and when he returns to Orzammar becomes King of Orzammar and keeps the Anvil of the Void.

Now, for his stance on Mages, Templars, the Chantry, Qunari, Andrastianism, the companions, Ferelden, the casteless, and anything else:

Mages: Xanthos sees the mages as prisoners for who they are, akin to the Casteless of Orzammar. They are punished for what they were born as and not for what they had done (in most cases. There are those who aren't innocent for both groups). So he works with the Mages' Collective, the self-policing group of mages. It's his hope that they will be able to live freely and undermine the Chantry's stance on mages. He also sees them as incredibly useful against the Darkspawn and will work on making Orzammar a pro-mage place, albeit with some form of oversight. When Dagna's books convince mages to form an independent Circle in Orzammar, Xanthos sits down with some of the more senior Enchanters to lay down the guidelines and rules. They would be required to help the Dwarves fight the Darkspawn in whatever way (healing, combat, etc). But he would make it clear that there would be no Chantry and Dwarven Templars would exist only to hunt down mages that abuse their gift or become Abominations.

Templars: Xanthos sees the Templars as being -- for the most part -- nothing more than a group of fanatical zealots bent on doing whatever they wish to the mages. Once he finds the excerpt that says the Templars are recruited for their zeal and not their morality he despises the Chantry and Templars even more. Now, he's smart enough to realize there are some good eggs within the bunch, but primarily the Order is comprised of a bunch of zealots. Xanthos' hatred for the Chantry increases when he finds out the Templars are addicted to lyrium. Xanthos sees that as a desecration to lyrium, the gift from the Stone as well as finding it abhorrent that people would be subject to something so horrendous. When Alistair offers to teach the Dwarves how to be a Templar without lyrium, Xanthos' mind jumps to something. A pro-mage Orzammar with an Order of Dwarven Templars who exist only to keep Orzammar safe from Abominations and mages who abuse their power. Plus, Dwarven Templars would come in handy against the Darkspawn mages. Naturally, he jumps at the chance to learn about it.

Chantry: At first, Xanthos only hated the Chantry because they threatened the belief in the Ancestors with their faith spreading. Now he loathes them with a fiery passion of burning hatred. They have a monopoly on the lyrium and the Dwarves only get to keep some for themselves because if the Dwarves do refuse, they have to face an Exalted March. Granted, he already knew this. And that's the impression Xanthos gets, and he knows the Chantry doesn't really think things through. If Orzammar fell, there would be no one to keep the Darkspawn from going topside or to mine the lyrium. But alas, logic isn't something the Chantry knows about. He also sees their need for "spreading the Andrastian faith to the four corners so the Maker will come back" as a load of bronto ****. They just want political influence all over the world. And it's pretty smart. Religion like that is a great way to control the masses.

Qunari: Xanthos finds the Qunari -- specifically Sten -- very interesting. The things he's heard about their level of technology astound him. Cannons and gunpowder? The Dwarves should've invented these. Then they could decimate the Darkspawn easily, if the powder was used carefully so as to not damage the Deep Roads too much. But technology aside, their society is odd to Xanthos. And he understands the Qunari feel the same way about society that isn't theirs. After talking with Sten and hearing Sten say he doesn't want to be alive when the Qunari do invade again, Xanthos is wondering what will happen to his kadan. Sten and Xanthos are now brothers. Not by blood, but by something deeper. Xanthos however won't convert to the Qun. He believes in the Ancestors and the Stone. Xanthos is optimistic that something will happen within the Qun and Sten will be involved, but he knows that he can't rely on solely optimism. To that end, he will prepare Orzammar's forces.

Andrastianism: Xanthos holds nothing against the belief in the Maker or this Andraste himself. He thinks it's fine for the surfacers to believe what they want. However, during his reign in Orzammar he makes it clear that there will be no Chantry to Andraste and the Maker and no one from the surface is to start teaching other people about this religion, because that will lead to the Ancestors being forgotten. So anyone that comes to Orzammar is to keep their beliefs to themselves. However, Xanthos does preserve the Urn of Andraste, for various reasons:

1) Kolgrim's a person who drinks Dragon's blood, which makes a person go insane. Never trust insane, murderous people.
2) He professes to know what will happen when he isn't a master of the arcane. Even if he was, it would be his speculations.
3) Andraste is like a Paragon to the surfacers. Would Xanthos want Paragon Aeducan's remains desecrated? No.
4) It could serve as a morale boost to the Fereldan troops when he unites the lands against the Blight.

Companions: He's friends with everyone, had Alistair marry Anora, and is in love with both Leliana and Morrigan. Taken from the thread Merrill: She's a Keeper!:

For Xanthos Aeducan, he always enjoyed having various sexual encounters back in Orzammar. It was something he enjoyed when he wasn't flexing his political muscle. Took his mind off of things and all that. By his nature, he's an extremely flirty person. He didn't do it though because he was interested in solely sex. It was just his nature. Similar to -- but not exactly the same -- as Isabela's.  He respected women just fine and would take care of them if they had a child. That's actually partially why he had sex so much. He wanted to see if more Dwarven babies would be made, since the Darkspawn were pressing in against the Dwarves in what few passages were still usable.

When Mardy and whatshername came along (I find it funny that I can't remember her name when I roleplayed Xanthos Aeducan to also be unable to remember her name after everything that happened in the Deep Roads), he jumped at the opportunity to have a threesome. Granted, he originally wanted Gorim to have one, but they were only interested in Xanthos so he took them both home.

After being exiled, he stayed the same. He flirted with women every chance he got, and if he thought he could get anywhere with them he took it.

Eventually, he began to fall in love with both Morrigan and Leliana, and when he was forced to choose he picked Leliana over Morrigan. However, the love was still there for Morrigan and he couldn't just stop it. It was there. It was powerful. It was clawing at him and tearing him apart.

When he went back to Orzammar and saw the Golden Mirror for sale, he bought it and immediately gave it to Morrigan. He wanted to be with her again, but used his sharp mind to also be with Leliana.

When Morrigan proposed the Dark Ritual, he did it for a good number of reasons:

1) Love
2) Powerful half-Dwarven baby, with the blood of a powerful sorceress and the blood of the most powerful and smartest Dwarf to ever grace Thedas
3) Be the first known Warden to live after slaying the Archdemon, which might serve as a morale boost for the Dwarves back home
4) In my fanfic, he's going to be king of Orzammar so that's another reason why he did it.

Ferelden: He thinks a political alliance between Ferelden and Orzammar will be great. He's done his reading and he thinks that while Loghain jumped the gun a bit, his suspicions were well-founded. Orlais has a history of invading countries and taking them over, and Xanthos thinks that the Orlesians may not like how they were bested by the Fereldans. But his main reason for an alliance is so that they can receive help with fighting the Darkspawn. He hardened Alistair and had him marry Anora, and Alistair left Xanthos' group when Xanthos spared Loghain and made him a Warden. However, Alistair did still fight, but as a king. He fought with his troops at the head of the charge. Xanthos embraced the Warden mantra -- well, one of them anyway -- that was accepting anyone from any walk of life: Thieves, Murderers, kings, commoners, kingslayers, and the rest.

Casteless: He gives them greater rights in return for fighting the Darkspawn. While it will lead to controversy and eventually assassinations, he has the blessings of the Ancestors. Eventually, Xanthos will start to give the throne of Orzammar more power as right now the Assembly has much of the power.

Bronwyn Cousland:  Warrior and Daddy's little girl, she is a "good child" who is polite to company and follows her father's wishes.  When Daddy orders her to go with Duncan, she goes like the obedient daughter she is, but living with the pain of her parents' death teaches her to trust her own judgment more and an authority figure's judgment less.

Meeting Alistair was a revelation. Despite his immaturity and awkwardness, she loved him right away and knew that she would do anything to stay with him.  With some unusually callous words that she would ordinarily never use, she got him to look out for himself more.  And she adores him.

Bronwyn likes Wynne.  She reminds her of her aserbic grandmother who had died only a few years before.  She also liked that fact that Wynne paid attention to how she was feeling from time to time, a refreshing change from being squad leader and nursemaid to everyone else.

Bronwyn is an Andrastian but not deeply religious. She is not afraid of mages; she enjoys meeting people who are different from her. Perhaps she has a diplomatic streak like her father. She likes to solve problems and help people, but she also sees how doing these things benefit her mission strategically as well.  She is, after all, a nobleman's child.

Her two most satisfying moments were killing Rendon Howe and executing Loghain whom she holds to be a traitor and deserter. Marrying Alistair and becoming queen were just frosting on the cake as she already had his love and attention.

She takes up the Arldom with great satisfaction having the last laugh on her arch enemy, Rendon Howe - murdering ****son -- but spares his son because she sees something in him that bears keeping.  Ever practical, she makes him a Grey Warden and enlists him in her cause.  She kills the Architect not from personal animosity but because the taint that the darkspawn spread is incompatible with human, elven, dwarven and even qunari life.  Darkspawn need to be eliminated as one would eliminate a dreaded disease like the little pox that kills so many.

After quelling the latest darkspawn incursion, she returns happily to her beloved Alistair with whom she lives until her Calling.  When the time comes, Alistair abdicates the throne in favor of Bronwyn's nephew and they go into the Deep Roads together.

Miri Hawke:  Mage, has quirky sense of humor that gets her into trouble.  Is in favor of mage freedom but does not use blood magic and constantly fights Merrill about it.  She is in favor of Anders' cause right up until the moment he blows up the Chantry.  Then she executes him on the spot for committing a terrorist act.  Once he's dead, she goes on the liberate the Kirkwall Circle and lead the revolution.

She loves her brother and makes the mistake of taking him into the Deep Roads. Fortunately, she had Anders with her and so Carver's life is saved, but he is forced to become a Grey Warden.  Although this seems to help him grow up, Miri will never forgive herself for this, just as she will never forgive herself for not saving her Mother.  As the eldest child, she is more hard on herself than either of her parents ever were. She hides this with her humor.

Miri believes that there is something MORE out there, she just doesn't know if it's the Maker or not.

Fenris, her mage-hating lover, helps her although he can't think why! Their relationship is a stormy, passionate one and they will always fight and then make up quite happily.

Well, let's see...

The Warden:  Rånel Surana didn't remember any part of his life in the Circle of Magi.  It was not an entirely easy life, but he got along just fine with his non-confrontational and whimsical laid back nature.  He didn't have any firm opinions on the Circle himself.  He enjoyed his life of study in relative luxury and had little to compare it to.  He became one of the most skilled apprentices in the tower and popular amongst the mages.  He was even on amiable terms with a few Templars.  Though a few criticized his complacent views of the Circle, he mostly fine with his lot in life if a little bored.

When the time came to shoulder the mantle of Grey Warden, Rånel covered his hesitance with lightheartedness that soon became his norm after Ostagar.  He was new to the world outside the Circle and desirous of exploration.  At Redcliffe, he stubbornly defended the village until the undead scourge was defeated.  He traveled to the Circle in the hopes of freeing the Arl's young son from a fate he dreaded himself and saved the surviving mages from Uldred's folly.  In Orzammar, he helped what he saw as the more progressive Bhelen Aeducan become king with the help of the Paragon Caridan.  Over the course of his journey he grew close in friendship with all his companions.  None more so than the lovely Leliana.  Her pleasant energy and complexity fascinated him and fascination grew into love.  With her and the rest herid Soldiers peak of it's demonic interlopers and destroyed the work of Avernus that Rånel viewed with such disgust, setting the old Warden to less vile work.  He freed the werewolves of their curse and won the Dalish to his cause in the Brecilian.  When the time came to confront the Landsmeet, he defeated Loghain in a duel and convinced Alistair to take the throne alongside Anora.  He and Alistair argued and, to satisfy his incensed friend, Rånel took responsibility for executing Loghain.  He made a difficult decision that night but eventually he fell into his desire to keep everyone he could alive and put his trust in the witch that called him her first friend.

After the battle, he asked that the Wardens would not be forgotten and began to travel with the Bard, now eager to see the world he had been locked away from his whole life.  Sadly it was not to last as he was called to serve as the Commander of the Grey in Ferelden and Arl of Amaranthine while she was called by the Divine.  Saddened, Rånel drew his mind from the temporary separation by throwing himself full force into his duties, befriending his new Wardens and seeking to build up the Order of Ferelden beyond it's old strength.  He was too kind to his peasants, some say, leading to the massacre of a mob outside the keep.  Wary of further misstep, Rånel had a professional in Amaranthine seek out whispers of coup, which thus did not make it past infancy.  When the Architect and his plan were revealed, he chose to spare the well intentioned anomaly in the hopes that peace between darkspawn and the rest of the world might be realized someday.  After the Mother's defeat, Rånel braved Amgarrak on a note of curiosity and then was dragged into a search for the mysterious Eluvian, where he bid Morrigan farewell for the last time...

Hawke:  Alys Hawke was raised the oldest of three with a mage for a sister.  She embraced the responsibility instilled by both her parents to look after family with a tenacity that chafed her brother, though she remained affectionate with her sister.  Responsibility was the core of her beliefs, surpassing even the Chant of Light.  When the Blight came she joined the king's army in the hopes of stopping the Blight before it could threaten her family.  She was upset when Carver insisted on enlisting, for she desired to keep the entirety of her family away from the greater danger.  She relented, however, because she realized she had no right to stop him from trying to protect his family too, and understood his desire to prove himself even if she disapproved.

After Carver's death, the bereaved Alys led her remaining family to Kirkwall, where she chose to work with the smuggler Athenril to repay the debt of entry to the city.  Smuggling and thievery, it seemed to her, were the lesser of two evils when the alternative was to spill blood for coin.  When the year ended, Alys was desperate to find a way to improve her mother's situation and hide Bethany from the Templars.  Along with the dwarf Varric, Alys befriended a number of individuals that would remain friends throughout her years in the city.  Amongst them, however, she could not abide by the irresponsible behavior of the pirate Isabella, whom Alys repeatedly berated and encouraged to be a better person.  Alys was respectful if not fully approving of the Qun.  She supported greater mage freedoms though held no great hate for the Templars, only wariness for her sister's sake.  She spent much time in the city during this time, but left it once to track Carta assassins that had attacked her family.  At that time she chose to follow the warden Larius in his desire to destroy the ancient magister Corypheus, though she was confused by his sudden departure afterward.  Eventually she journeyed into the deeproads and came up with a fortune, not soon enough to stop her sister's capture by the Templars.

For the next several years Alys spent her time bolstering her reputation and status in the city to ensure her mother's comfort, ever mindful of her sister's situation in the Gallows and the effect it had on their
mother.  With this in mind, she took up the Viscount's request for aid in the Qunari situation.  During her dealings and investigations she took the time to aid her companions in their personal matters.  In particular, she began to develop a relationship with the inquisitive and naive Dalish mage, Merril, being cautious but supportive of the elf's efforts to restore the Eluvian.  Ever persistent was her displeasure with Isabella's habits, even more so when she discovered the nature of the relic Isabella had stolen.  She also received a peculiar invitation from an Orlesian nobleman.  When the Qunari elf Tallis asked for her help, she chose to accompany her, largely from a mixture of curiosity and a desire to leave the city for a time in light of the Antivan Crows that attempted to kill her.  After her return to the city, all came to a head as the Arishok seized control of the city.  Alys had more influence with Isabella than she had believed, however, and the pirate returned the artifact she had stolen from the Arishok.  Unwilling to allow this honorable act be rewarded with death, Alys faced and defeated the Arishok in a duel.  She was declared the Champion of Kirkwall for her deeds.

As the years past by, the tensions between mages and templars in the city escalated dramatically.  Alys did her best to keep her family out of the crossfire but with Bethany in the Gallows she knew that one day she might have to pick a side.  As it came to pass, she took the side of the mages.  Alys did what she could to help mages in the city and lighten tensions between mages and templars, but it was to little effect.  When Anders destroyed the chantry, Alys was horrified.  She took the side of the mages once again to defend them and her sister from Meredith's insane crusade, but when the time came to confront Anders, Alys was at a loss.  She saw that he had not been able to maintain his resistance to the spirit of vengeance and understood the moral wrong of his actions.  She pitied him.  In the end it was not anger that drove her knife, but mercy and justice for his victims.  She went to the Gallows and fought alongside the mages but as the situation deteriorated she fought in more of a free for all hoping only to defend her sister and friends.  She killed Meredith and left the city with the sole desire to get away from it all with Merril, Bethany and the rest safe with her.

Frankly, I don't really believe it is possible to roleplay in a game like this. Sure, I can write ten pages of character history and personality, but in the end I'm going to have to choose between a diplomatic, witty or agressive response, none of which really fit the personality I gave Hawke. So, I save the roleplaying for RPG's and just go with a few general guidelines in CRPG's.

So, my Hawke uses 'witty' responses most of the time, diplomatic responses to his family and agressive responses to people who really ****** him off, by threatening his family or being a creepy elf-killer for instance.

Grey Warden:

A human noble from Highever and a warrior. He was serious but kind and could still be lighthearted, he never held grudges or did any bad. He tried to make Thedas a better place and never did any wrong to people or had trouble with his companions. He was merciful and took advantages of all his options, for example he let Loghain live and let him be useful and redeem himself as a Grey Warden, but still managed to get Alistair to be king and marry Anora. He did the dark ritual with Morrigan and destroyed the Anvil of the Void.

He also allowed Bhelen to be king, Bhelen is a bad person but he is a far better and beneficial ruler to the Dwarves than Harrowmont and its a sacrifice he was willing to make.

My Hawke: He was very light hearted and kind and like the GW he tried to make the world a better place, he rarely lost his temper but sometimes he did but he tried not to let it cloud his actions. He was a mage and he allowed Anders to live despite what he had done (if Bioware gives us a choice of what Hawke does to Anders afterwards it would be something like locking him up for life, or making him serve the Grey Wardens forever...which he was sort of meant to be doing anyway)

Oh yeah and both characters are agnostics and don't think about or care much about the Maker and Religion, and they respect peoples beliefs but dislike the Chantry and their tight control and propaganda on the mages.

Ikr, I completely agree with this.

And its exactly the same in the game Oblivion, how can you even role play in Oblivion? Your character can't even talk or say much! So in the end you are just a blank slate with no personality at all!

I don't believe the OP explicitly meant RPing. The Ethereal Writer Redux's post is a good example of defining a characters motivations, ideals, quirks and relationships within the confines of the in-game universe.

Say what you will about Dragon Age, there are many different factions and warring ideologies, (almost) all of which have no clear good and evil choices. This allows you to create a character who forms an opinion of all of the major political and social conflicts of the world, for their own reasons and due to their own choices.

Warden: Theron Mahariel had lived his entire life with his clan, and as a result held the rest of the world and it's people in low regard. As a result when he left to join the grey wardens he viewed it as being taken from his friends and family to fight in a war that had little to do with his people, under the banner of an organization that strongly encourages him to forget his past and his heritage.
Though generaly liked by his companions and viewed as a brilliant tactition and archer, Theron would usually avoid talking to his compainions, and was often described as appearing lonely and sadened. Theron would always despise the position fate had placed himself in and when questioned on whether or not he would have joined the grey wardens if he had been given the option he stated that had the keeper not ordered him to join, he would have rather died than left his clan.
As far as morality went Theron had little care for what happended to the human society and, though he would always stop to help other elves or children, He would have to stand to benefit in some way before helping an adult human. At the Landsmeet Theron personally executed Loghain and placed both Alastair and Anora on the throne. After killing , and surviving the Archdemon Theron made only one request: Land for the Dalish, and though this was backed by both the King and Queen, it ultamately was rejected by the Ferelden nobility. Frustrated and disgusted by the nobels, Theron left Ferelden and the wardens to return to his clan. unfortunately for reasons unkown Theron never made it back to his clan and he was never seen again.
When the darkspawn hoards began to resurface near amaranthene the grey wardens immediately sent wardens to track down Theron with the hopes of once again using his tactical brilliance to fight the darkspawn. Many of the wardens sent to track Theron failed to return, and given the relatively low risk of the mission, some of the wardens, particularly those with strong belief in the chantry, believed that Theron had killed his trackers. Whatever the reason for the dissapearences of the trackers, the Grey wardens eventually gave up and placed an orlesian warden in charge of dealing with the new threat.

Hawke:
Personality: Many nobels describe Hawke as a arogant, reckless scoundral, with little regard for the seriousness of the situation, Though those who knew him personally knew him as a kindhearted, though bitterly sarchastic rogue with a fierce loyalty tohis friends and family and a strong hatred for the nobility and Chantry officials. upon regaining the Amell estate Hawke was viewed as one of the most quirky Nobels in Kirkwall, and possibly Thedas, And many rumors about him persisted, ranging from the legitimacy of his wealth, to his alleged relations to the mage underground, to whether or not he was a follower of Andraste. His relationship, and subsequent marriage to Merrill only magnified these rumors.

The Chantry: Though the sisters in Lothering did their best to make Hawke a faithful follower of the maker, but this quickly proved to be an exercise in futility, Hawke himself deciding that Maker of not the Chantry was responsible for far more oppression and suffering than good. Though Hawke understood the nessecity of the Chantry for certain people he grew more and more openly opposed to the Idea of it dominating public life and law, specifically on how it treated mages. Though Hawke didn't seek to destroy the Chantry he did seek to severely weaken its influence on Thedas, But he strongly disaproved of Anders actions, believing it to have doomed the mages cause.

The Qunari: When Hawke first met the Qunari he did not hate them. He even went as far as to defend them from the chantry zelots, Beliving that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Unfortunately this didn't last, and Hawke quickly found that his belief in the importance of personal freedom and responsibility didn't mix well with the strict, and unforgiving rules of the Qun. Eventually Hawke came to hate everything the qunari stood for, but continued to defend them. This ended with the Arishoks attack on the city, something that disgusted Hawke and would forever make him an enemy of the qunari.

The Dalish: one of the most notable and apparent quirks that Hawke had was his fascination, and borderline obsession with the dalish. As a child in Lothering He had heared the stories of the dalish from an elven Laborer, and was always impressed with the resolve of the Dalish and their refusal to submit to the chantry laws. As a noblemen in Kirkwall Hawke spent a considerable amount of money on collecting various Dalish goods and came to be quite knowlegable in dalish Lore.

Romance: partly due to his affinity for elven and Dalish culture Hawke quickly befriended Merrill. It didn't take long after that for Hawke to Fall in love with Merrill and ask her to move in with him. since neither the Chantry nor Merrill's clan would marry them THey held their own ceremony amongst their friends within the grounds of Hawkes estate. Hawke was highly supportive of Merrills plans with the Mirror, until she talked of consulting the demon for a second time, but when Hawke failed to persuade her against it he reluctantly agreed to come with her, determined not to lose her to the demon

Blood Magic: Hawke never viewed Blood magic itself as inherently evil, and Has no problem with its use with the exception of sacrafices and demon summoning.

Family: Hawke is fiercly devoted to his family, and goes to great lengths to protect them. He viewed carvers death as a personal faliure to protect his family, and swore that he would never allow this to happen to another family member. Unfortunately it was this very fear that eventually led to Bethany's capture by the templars. With Bethany in the circle Hawke began to support the Mage underground and would often come to blows with the templars, but he was careful enough not to get traced by the templars. The death of Hawkes mother unhinged him greatly and since Bethany and Merrill were now all that was left of his family he doubled his efforts on fighting to free the mages, now no longer hiding his support for the growing resistance movements.

Thorin Aeducan: Starts off his quest as a Grey Warden as a hardcore stereotypical Dwarven Noble. Prejudiced, looks down on those of lower castes (even among humans and elves...which is ironic since he has to look up to them lol) Utterly ruthless in his goals, and will not hesitate to kill anyone in his way.

As his time on the surface increases, and he sees more and more of the people however, his views slowly but surely change. He sees how much other castes contribute (he sees everyone in a caste..example Alistair would be a warrior-he is unsure if Morrigan would be scholar or separate caste not part of Orzammar due to her being a mage) and also how much politics hurts the ultimate cause and goal. From Uldred's failed rebellion to Loghain almost dooming Ferelden because of his Orlais paranoia, that he gradually holds politics nowhere near as important as he once had.

By the time he returns to Orzammar, he fears the surface influenced him so much he can't properly be called a dwarf anymore. He spared Branka and kept the Anvil because he knows, from years of fighting darkspawn before becoming a Warden (he was made a commander after all, he has field experience) how much Golems are needed. While initially supporting Harrowmont for personal honor, Thorin grows more and more convinced that sometimes even honor can be set aside for glory and victory-in this case strengthening Orzammar with a strong ruler, and he grudgingly decides to support Bhelen at the end (he justifies the decision by vowing to kill Bhelen later)

He enters the Landsmeet with confidence, planning to show surfaces how their heads stuck in the clouds has blinded them to true dwarven method of politics.

He has no love or respect for the Chantry, but generally respects the Qunari. His tentative, but gradually strong friendship with Alistair keeps Thorin a strong ally of Ferelden.

Hawke, on the other hand, is a mage.

Hawke is a general pain-in-the-neck and sarcastic guy. Begrudgingly gets involved with anything outside of his family and wants to stay out of the templar/mage conflict as much as possible. Hawke is a scholar as well and is fascinated by why the Qunari are so controversial and wants to learn more about the culture. However, Hawke is still loyal to his family and to Kirkwall, so when the Qunari attack, he takes up the fight, with nothing but respect for the Arishok (he never liked Dumar constantly tip-toeing around issues to avoid stepping on toes rather than just stepping up and attacking the problem head-on.)

Hawke sees more and more abuses the templars afflict upon the mages, and gradually begins to fear for his life as Meredith starts exercising political power far beyond her station as Knight-Commander. So Hawke starts stepping forward to be the new viscount and openly defies Meredith in an attempt to appeal to the nobility who would take advantage of a power vacuum.

As it becomes obvious that won't work, Hawke begins plotting with Anders, and openly encourages revolution with Hawke as leader, because he would rather go down fighting than be taken at night by templars.

Hawke IS however, against targeting non-combatants so he executes Anders, but still supports the mages.

I guess the things I’ve written about my character do have fanfiction components, although I don’t write anything I just day dream a lot…way too much. Sorry about the names, I’m bad with naming characters.

Before the blight:
Heidi Aeducan is your classic princess type. She enjoys frivolous things like bubble baths and extensive personal hygiene. She is very self absorbed and loves her position in life. Her brother Trian is infuriated by her nonchalant attitude, and even worse Heidi is a pro at getting the job done right. Her legion of troops is the most desirable to serve in because she allows drinking all night and late formations. She prefers the camaraderie of her men to being romantically involved, and finds solace in her best friend Gorim. She is completely blindsided by Bhelen’s betrayal.

During the blight:
Heidi takes the events of Ostagar in stride and consoles Alistair after his breakdown over Duncan. She insists that the two of them can stop the blight and he is inspired by her upbeat attitude and confidence. She is attracted to Alistair and the pair shares the same easy going attitude and sense of humor. They also have the same awkwardness and inexperience concerning romantic relationships. The two also throw tantrums when they don’t get their way. Heidi begins to scheme in her mind about how they can stay together once the blight is over. She decides that if they can end the blight together, they will gain enough social standing and power to freely continue their relationship. During her journey she helps many people and begins to feel guilty about only reaching for her selfish ambitions. Even with the guilt she cannot let them go, she agrees that Alistair should stay in the wardens with her and convinces him to do the dark ritual with Morrigan.

After the blight:
Heidi climbed back up the social ladder in Orzammar, which didn’t necessarily matter. She always considered being exiled a ridiculous notion that never applied to her. She was named a paragon by her people and received much praise from the dwarves and the wardens. Shortly after the blight Heidi had a severe case of baby fever after Oghren’s daughter, Olan, was born and sought out her old friend to help with her fertility issues. Heidi bore 3 healthy children two daughters and a son. She named them Hirol, Rhona, and Carridin respectively. When Heidi’s son was still an infant, her spouse’s illegitimate child, Brody, showed up on her door, battered from templar abuse. She gladly took him in.

The Battle for the OGB:
It was obvious that Brody had suffered abuses from the templars. Heidi did her best to give him a comfortable home so that he could heal. She assigned Bethany, a kind and soft spoken warden mage, as Brody’s tutor. When Heidi made an inquiry to the divine about Brody’s treatment, the abuse was denied and it was suggested she return her son back to the circle. Heidi tried a number of things to keep him, even conscripting him into the wardens. Eventually Heidi tired of the templars and a confrontation led to bloodshed. The divine demanded that Heidi relinquish the child and reported her to the first warden. The first warden fired back, telling the divine that the child was in fact a warden and no longer the chantry’s concern. Eventually an army of templars came to Aramanthine to take him. Heidi and her spouse were horrified to learn that he had been taken to Kirkwall. Heidi continued her pleas for Brody’s release while Alistair worked in and around Kirkwall. During the Qunari uprising there was enough confusion that Alistair was successful in retrieving Brody. A man named Cullen returned a favor and reported the child killed during the siege.

On mages: Heidi’s time spent with Wynne and Morrigan shaped her initial feelings on mages. She understands that there are bad apples in every bunch, and has a high opinion of them. Anders gave her a different view of the circle and mages. She often feels guilty because she couldn’t completely shield Anders from the templars. She thought she would be giving him a better life by allowing him to pursue his own ambitions. However she eventually found herself covering up Anders’ crimes.

On templars: Heidi doesn’t like her authority undermined and it seems that templars have begun making a habit of it. Nothing sends her into a raging scorn more than not getting her way . Over time she begins to realize that the templars aren’t watched as they should be and get away with far too much. She isn’t sure if she can trust any of them, being as they infiltrated the wardens just to keep an eye on Anders. Her experience has made her become very suspicious.

On the Chantry: She is very invested in her dwarven faith and culture, although she doesn’t bring it up often. Her dealings with the chantry haven’t been exactly pleasant. She doesn’t appreciate the chantry thinking their word rules everyone in Thedas. When she was approached by brother Brukel about a chantry in Orzammar, she very impolitely told him to GTFO. Since she doesn’t have faith in the chantry, she doesn’t understand the chantry’s divine right over mages and believes if someone can provide a healthy environment for a mage, they should be left alone. Her feelings were neutral before Brody came along and as more time goes by she becomes embittered toward the chantry.

On companions: Heidi is very easy to get along with and has many friends high and low throughout Thedas. She does the best she can to help if someone needs it. Some of her companions stay with her during her time at the keep. While Heidi comes off as a clueless snob, she has a genuine interest in the well being of others. Sigrun becomes Heidi’s best friend and she is also quite fond of Oghren. Of course Alistair is a big part of her life, in fact Alistair is the only person who can influence her. During the landsmeet Heidi suggested they let Loghain live which made Alistair very angry. She retracted her opinion without a word and handed Alistair her sword. She is also fond of Nathaniel Howe, Wynne, Leiliana and Shale.

That’s all guys! Sorry for the length, but I love my Heidi.

Eta:
Things she might say:

Before the blight:  "Ew Gorim, these ****s displease me, tell them to shoo."
On being exiled:  "You're all going to feel like a stupid ass when I return because all the darkspawn are dead."
To Branka:  "You're a horrible person, Branka, no one deserved what you did, not even your in-laws!"
On Sigrun's past:  "As if Sigrun is a bad person for stealing a trinket and then lying about it.  What house did it come from?  Ew, its worthless anyway.  Here, have some gold for your trouble."

Hmmm... this is going to be more along the lines of Xanthos Aeducan in my fanfic and not the actual game. Some of Xanthos' sentiments may be shared with my other Wardens.

I made some similar choices with my dwarf, very cool expression of your character!  I bet your fanfiction is awesome and full of dwarvy goodness.

(he justifies the decision by vowing to kill Bhelen later)

Love it!  lol.  I never thought of doing that.

He dies everytime in my playthroughs.  I love playing him, "Oh, I'll support you."  Then suprise!  The crown goes to harrowmont.
