I don't know if this has been put forward before, but have anyone wondered if Samara is an ardat-yakshi herself? There are especially three things that made me come to this conclusion.

1. All her children are ardat-yakshi (I'm assuming arday-yakshi can get pregnant while they feed.)
2. Morinth claims she only uses the powers Samare "gave" her.
3. She gets all awkward when Shepared flirts with her.

Ardak - Yakshi are serile. They couldn't have children even if they wanted to. If Samara were one, she would have no need to become a Justicar, or need to hunt down Morinth since Morinth wouldn't have existed. She would probably be in isolation herself or even slain already.

Samara alone is not enough information/evidence for me, and everything we know about Adat-Yakshi is told by her. It's a shame Morinth doesn't tell anything about Ardat-Yakshi, it's a shame she almost has nothing to say at all.

That would have been good (and shocking) for the story but like Aurora said they can't have children at all.

They're sterile.

A rather dumb light this shines upon you, yes? Hmm.

Samara says their sterile, it doesn't mean that they are. It might be so, and it might be not.

Ask Bioware. They'll tell you it's lore.

D.Kain isn't your average garden variety Morinth apologist. I'm pretty certain he wouldn't accept anything BioWare said about Ardat-Yakshi which contradicted his own personal headcanon.

Still the fact remains, Samara isn't sterile and didn't kill her bondmate when they mated. Ergo, not an Ardat-Yakshi.

As if Bioware never altered the lore before.

Now now, let's be nice. I agree with DoNotIngest, I'm certain BW themselves would say that Ardat-Yakshi are sterile. besides, it's probably in the codex as such.

It's a half baked lore that wasn't though completely through about by them, and it can be felt in the game. We don't know yet if Ardat-Yakshi can reproduce or not, or if they aren't the genetic destiny of the asari, or if they can't be cured, or if they are addicted to melding.

I just don't know if Samara KNOWS what she is talking about, or if she just believes what she was told. She KNOWS of only 3 AY, and all of them her children.

Which makes it seem like she would know what she's talking about. If your kids had some rare disease I'm pretty sure you'd study up on it and learn all about it.

Oh come on, she is not a good mother, nor a good person in general. lol

You kidding? Listen to her talk about Morinth! She loves her daughter. Her voice performance, especially after Morinth is dead, was one of the few times I could appreciate the characters of Mass Effect. She sounds sincere to me.

It would be an interesting turn of events, but if this were the case, Morinth might have had many children by now.

I don't care that much about what she says. Actions speak to me more than words. What she did from the beginning was not love at all.

I'm contemplating the consequences of starting this up again...

What did she do that wasn't love?

Present her daughter with the choice of seclusion or death. I can understand a selfish society more than a mother.

EternalAmbiguity, don't. Please don't...

No, I can't do this again. I'm getting out of here.

So that means your opinion of Samara is predicated on your opinion of the morality of Morinth. I don't think we'll get anywhere with that, we tried for over a hundred pages last time and reached no resolution.

No problem at all. I think we got each other's point fairly well. I just elaboreted on this specific thing and tied it. No need for 100 more pages of bashing. ;)

Considering that Asari have to meld to have children I think it's safe to say Ardat Yakshi are sterile since melding is impossible.

We don't know that completely. Maybe there is a way for Ardat Yakshi to meld without partners death.
