I Have completed almost all of the loyalty missions but when I choose the advanced training research it takes my 5000 eezo and then no window comes up. I just completed Jacobs loyalty mission to see if that changed anything (since it is sort of the first one you would normally do, I think its the first misson you get.)

When I got back to the Normandy I tried to research it again and this time the window DID come up but the only available power was barrier (Jacob's bonus power) I tried restarting the game and then tried researching it again and now the window just does not come up again.

Any help I can get with this would be greatly apprecieated.

Thanks

Sounds like your player1.prf file may not be saving correctly. Was Jacob's loyalty mission the one you had done most recently? If you look at your achievements, are you also seeing all those as locked, even though some should be unlocked?

Actually, I have been having issues with my save files. It didn't occur to me that they could be related because I found a work around a while back so I haven't had to deal with it. Here is a link to the problem I was having before which I will also sum up: http://social.biowar...6/index/8378210

Long story short, on my old computer I bought ME2 direct download from the Bioware/EA site(can't remember which) and it installed fine and I had no problems. When I got my new computer which has to hard drives(one 150g 10000rpm for my OS and programs and one 2tb drive for files) I bought ME2 from Steam. When it installed I noticed the files were in a different place than they were on my old computer. When I tried to play they game it worked ok until I tried to save. When I tried to save, the "game saved" notice would appear on the screen but when I went to the load page there were not games to be loaded. So I checked the save folder and there were no folders for the individual careers (John_31_Soldier_070210) only the autosave, save_####, and chaptersave files all just saved directly to the Mass Effect 2 > Save folder.

The workaround was to manually create a career folder of the appropriate name class and date and drag the save files into the folder. After that the saves would save to that particular folder.

So that brings us up to the present. I have been playing for a few weeks now with no problems until I realized this issue with the advanced training.

I don't know if this is an issue with steam having a problem with my computer having two hard drives. I have tried reinstalling many times and I have had no luck.

Sounds like Steam has screwed up well and truly, as it should be saving the the files in teh right folders, as well as allowing the player1.prf file to be saved correctly.

Is Steam set to run as admin, and is the My Documents folder in the default location, or has it been moved to somewhere else?

I see in that thread that you solved the problem by manually creating the needed Save subfolder. Did you also check that BIOGame\\Profile exists under the Mass Effect 2 folder in Documents? If it does exist, do you have a player1.prf file there, or nothing?

If a Profile folder does not exist under BIOGame, I highly suggest creating it, and seeing if the game then generates a Player1.prf file inside it.

P.S. I highly recommend using junctions or symlinks to point to any Windows folders you move to a non-C drive. Details here. Not certain if it will help in your case, but it certainly can't hurt.
