The Human/Batarian proxy war always makes me think of USA/USSR during the cold war. They just hate each other but neither wants to risk open war with the other.

I find batarians fascinating. Colonist Shepard could have some epic conversations if we had a batarian ally or squadmate, and I strongly support the squadmate idea.

Pretty much but its more like Earth and Hegemony Earth doesn't know what the Batarians are packing but the Batarians know what we're and they don't want to get on our bad side.

I really do hope Colonial shep can have specific questions and responses to a Batarian ally or in any dealings with them they killed his family and nearly wiped his home off the map he should be allowed to take issue and have words with whomever from that species just like Akuze shep should be able to take issue with TIM, Miranda, Jacob, and all other Cerberus or Cerberus friendly persons he comes in contact with even Tera Firma sense in a way they do have the whole prohuman thing going that Cerberus does.

If Baterians want to preserve their slavery system, then they must only be allowed to enslave their own.

Also just because there is a culture of slavery doesn't mean that most Baterians are for it. Just because there is a culture of hating humans, doesn't mean that most Baterians agree with it.

I really like them. Their voices sound great. As for their looks, they're much more appealing to look at than turians.

They're an honest rival, not manipulators like the Council. Having a rival is great, maybe we can become permanent competitors after the Reapers are defeated. I was elated when Shepard spits out, "batarians!" in that Bring Down the Sky DLC. I got that feeling, "at last we have a rival."

They don't pretend to be noble and wise while hiding the same motivations that everybody has - ambition for power. I respect that. It's refreshing to see at least one species not trying to claim moral high ground while acting in their own interests. I wonder how long would it take them to adopt the Council's lies to cover their true motivations. They still look pretty innocent in that regard.

I like the concept of their species, they're real. They've got aggression and fighting spirit. I feel for them because they're in a greatly weakened, vulnerable position, but they don't give up. They're a cautionary tale to humanity, our true mirror, what we might have been, what we still might be, we might end in the same sorry state unless we plan ahead and secure our position of power now.

Of all the species, they're most human - both aggressive and defeated, struggling underdogs, and with all their vices. That makes them real. Nothing like the "perfect" asari in whose existence I have trouble believing.

The true perfection lies in imperfection. The selfishness, the cowardice, the greed, the power hunger, all of that I see in ourselves, all of that is truth rather than lie, such is the way we are, this is the way of organic life, this is what truly drives us. Take that one step up, and you get the ambition, the self-reservation, the competitiveness, the fighting spirit, the courage, all of that are good things, that's what allows us to survive and to thrive. Truth is here. Metamorphosis lies this way.

Batarian squadmate for ME3!

I like them. They are interesting. There like us about a century ago. I want to know their motives and why they hate the council. There's so much to know about them. I mean we didn't know much about the Geth before Legion showed up. This time I want to listen to the views of Batarians from a Batarians mouth.

Humans and Batarians have more in common than people think. They're the only other species with ears!

For some reason a lot of upset paragons seem to want to commit genocide on them.

I on the other hand would like to see them play some sort of role in the war against the reapers. The Leviathan of Dis might help if they fitted some guns on it (provided it wasn't merely a farscape reference!).

Paragons have plenty of cognitive dissonance like that. These are the same people who support the Krogan, even though they're just as bad if not worse than the Batarians.

Their existence is necessary. Otherwise the Alliance and Humanity in general will not have such a convenient target for hate-mongering. It's always nice to have someone you can point to and say: "Look how much more civilized we are, compared to them!"

It's like how American and Western media in general condemn the abuse of human rights and lack of democracy in other countries. It makes the people feel comfortably superior and smugly self-righteous. It prevents them from getting disgruntled and causing social disturbance. It's called PROPAGANDA.

No other species can serve this purpose of the Batarians in Human consciousness. The Vorchas are considered by most as mere animals; The Krogans are too awe-inspiring; The Yagh too unknown; The Volus, Hanar, and Elcor too comical. Without the Batarians, we are left with the Turians, Asari and Salarians feeling adamantly superior to us, without anybody for us to feel superior to. That just won't do.

I have no reason to like them with the raids on human colonies and the slavery and all that, so...eh.

There's some pretty adamant anti-slavery sentiment in the world these days. That, and the Hegemony is insane and irresponsible.

I think it's kinda funny how a studio run by tolerance fanatics makes a race that serves no other purpose than to be hated as a whole. Makes me crack up.

What I dislike the most about them is the slave trading and what not, but I'm sure there are "good-hearted" Batarians somewhere out there, just like humans or any other species.

I killed Balak (I mean, the guys quite a danger to have running about), but I let his toadie live (hopefully he'll come back in Mass Effect 3). I try to help all the Batarians I can on Omega.

I always let balak's second in command go and I always let balak go just to save my own people and I am also nice to the other batarians as long as they leave me alone.

Why is a anti-slavery insane and irresponsible? I'm curious why you feel that way.

No, I don't dislike them, I'm open to peace with Batarians.

They may not be open to peace with Shepherd, he/she killed 300,000 batarains.

I don't like nor hate batarians - I perceive people as individuals and I'm not led by prejudices on collectives, honestly. Guess it has to do with the fact that I was and am victim of that phenomena - so no, I don't like nor hate batarians, simple as that. I was so miserable after The Arrival and many posts I've seen on these forums... we keep claiming that we evolved as human race, but that is unfortunately a great lie. We are just mistaking technological advancement for evolution, but we actually didn't evolve. Prejudices and inability to understand the other side or not being able to look past the stereotype are in us - good thing is... batarians are fictional, lucky bastards.

I actually kinda like them, there a pretty interesting race and I think they are just given a bad rep. Now that a I think of it we have never encountered a regular batarian besides the ones who were sick with the plague, which does not exactly bring out the best for them. I would love a Batarian squadmate, some one to show that not all Batarians are pirates, thugs, and corrupt mercenaries.

Batarians are one of those races that are 'easy to hate' because everything we've been shown about them is negative.

Its like most Americans being introduced to the the Islamic religion on 9/11.

They're interesting. I like my antagonists to have a point view and some proper story depth. They appear to fit the bill to me. I wouldn't object to learning more about them.

Lol yeah, glad I'm not the only one to notice that. It's the same with the Vorcha where they come off as an extreme anti-minority stereotype(at least on the surface).
