Batarian raised by a human family.

2/03/2010 - Youth United Aims to Connect Young People of All Species

“Youth United is a galaxy-wide extranet group that aims to connect
young people of all species. Founder Darchas Clark says he wants to
provide a helpful, positive environment for children to learn about each
others' cultures. A batarian raised in a human family, Clark says he
knows things can be difficult for young people of mixed backgrounds. "My
parents were good people, but they didn't know how to help with my
struggle to relate to either batarian or human cultures when I was a
kid," he recalls. "It's important that Youth United lets kids know
they're not alone in that struggle. There's still too many vicious and
ignorant attitudes towards mixed families out there." The group's
services include chat sessions with peers and counselors, free classes
on alien languages and cultures, and a guide to the galaxy's major legal
systems.”

I reserve any judgement on the Batarians until I have a lot more information on how much support the general Batarian populace gives the Hegemony in regards to slave trading.

I'm a pure paragon with barely any renegade and I could go either way with the batarians, let them live or just wipe every single batarian out just like I want to do with the geth. The geth remind me of the replicators of stargate.

I wonder how awkward puberty is such a child raised by alien parents.

Mixed families are repulsive...

I think it's kinda funny how a studio run by tolerance fanatics makes a race that serves no other purpose than to be hated as a whole. Makes me crack up.

Lol yeah, glad I'm not the only one to notice that. It's the same with the Vorcha where they come off as an extreme anti-minority stereotype(at least on the surface).

I think Batarians are only hated on the outside because from the start the first ones we meet want to commit genocide. On Omega, for the most part we run into more that only want humans dead or at least put out of sight and mind. However there are PLENTY of moments where we are given a chance to level with them and even understand them beyond the few bad eggs we run into.

I noticed also that a lot of people aren't very much into their culture (the whole slave caste thing). I personally don't have anything wrong with the way they run their society, it's simply their culture and even though they may bring other species into it which creates a problem, I respect the fact that slavery is apart of their culture, even if I don't condone such actions.

Humans (even "civilized" humans) have had slavery for centuries and too many countries still have it today. If humans are diverse enough to not be condemned for the actions of human slavers even when it has government or religious backing then I will give Batarians the same consideration unless the ones in front of my Shepard is actively evil and/or hostile.

Hilarious how many people hate batarians on principle of having slavery and being slavers, when humans have taken slaves throughout our history and it still exists today. Other species in ME do it too. Nassana's sister in ME1 was a slaver too.

Batarians are awesome. I want one.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask: is this in any way related to real life?

By that I mean do you feel that way about "mixed families" in real life.

Well, try to think first. We are in 2185. Slavers ? Slavery ? Humans slaves ?
That isn't normal to find that disgusting ? We are not in old time there.

And If a country would pratice slavery today in 2011,  you think people in the world wouldn't have a bad opinion ?

If the United States of America knowed that a State would pratice slavery over its people, do you think americans wouldn't be angry ? <_<

And slavery is forbidden in the council space, this isn't the same at all. Nasassana's sister was a criminal, and she would be condemned. Batarians allow slavery as a specie, " it's their culture. " only criminal war lords, tyrans in terminus systems do like them.

The United states practices slavery everyday. It's just given a nice and somewhat misleading name. Work.

I don't particularly like the Batarians but I don't dislike them either. I'd like to think they can improve their society as time goes on.

To the OP. Short answer. Yes, quite a few do.

Me, I think the Batarians have a lot of potential for development. My Shepards, however, range from "general dislike" to "burning desire to kill on sight." Some of them would work with Batarians, but not my colonist Shepard. She'd shoot a Batarian right between all four eyes, just for suggesting the team up.

That's not slavery. You get paid and a lot of people get other generous benefits. In fact if you don't want to work the government will even pay you enough to survive on, at least for a while.

I was talking about Mass Effect, though I question the health of mixed families in real-life too considering the downsides faced by mixed societies.
