Hilarious how many people hate batarians on principle of having slavery and being slavers, when humans have taken slaves throughout our history and it still exists today. Other species in ME do it too. Nassana's sister in ME1 was a slaver too.

And I dispise those human cultures which consider slavery and other forms of forced servitude acceptable as well. I'm sure that there are portions of the Batarian species that do not utilize slave labor and what-not, but these are few enough that they are not a major influence in their government or culture

Batarian culture is a caste-based system where the majority of the poplulace is limited economically based on parentage with extremely limited (if any) opportunity to improve their life or their children's lives. They also aggresively attack other species in order to gather slave labor, which should in itself be justification to wipe the Hegemony off of the galacitic map.

The combinantion of repugnant cultural values combines with constant assaults against my nation result in a deep dislike for the species in general.

What backwater nation of primitives do you live in where this is a common occurence? 1900's USA?

Or is modern USA still like this? (this does not occur with any significant frequency in Canada).

I suppose, yeah. But that's not really pandering, it's just trying to be commercially more viable which I'm also sort of dubious of. I always thought ME combat could use a little work over, especially in the first one, but after looking at the demos it looks a bit too much like GOW or something. The animations look less real and it zooms too much in on Shepard.  Some of it might just be that the game is still in progress. Overall combat looked a lot better than 2 and 1 though I'd say.

You're probably also thinking of multiplayer I'm guessing.

And what if those things they're including to be "commercially more viable" turn away a bunch of their...original fans?

That's what I was also afraid of. But after looking at the demos I'm pretty confident that that won't happen, they looked pretty amazing. What other features were you thinking about?

At least you're not at an anti-Vorcha rally. Aside from your avatar as evidence, we all know that you like Vorcha.

As much as I hate the Batarians, I'd happily burn an entire Vorcha colony/hive/whatever to the ground, killing every inhabitant within just to save a single Batarian life.

.. in saying that, I'd do the same to a Batarian colony if one looked at me wrong.

Not outwardly, but yes. Suburbs and cities alike are kind of segregated due to status and economy, and many parents teach their children-- whether they mean to or not-- that their race is the race they should like. Mixed kids have it surprisingly hard, since they're torn between different races and thus different cultures.

My friend at work was made fun of when she was a child because her mommy was black and her daddy was white. I think it's always kind of been a sore spot for her.

Plus my family (bible belt) sadly still believes whites should stay with whites, etc. I don't believe this, but I know my dad, his dad, etc. all do. It still occurs.

I'll not mention them, don't want a flame war...just think about all the new features in the last six months.

Kinect? Yeah I hear you there. Weapon customization? I don't know, that doesn't sound so bad to me. Can't think of much else off the top of my head.

Batarians as individual characters are pretty okay dudes. I like most of the batarian NPCs, who tend to be either rather decent fellows despite a life of crime or such dirtbags it's entertaining.

I do, however, hate the Hegemony as a sociopolitical entity.
