As for the topic, haven't had any issue gunning down the ones Shepard has met so far. I imagine there are some decent batarians out there though, even if the Hegemony is a bunch of bastages from my Alliance point of view.

As to what happens to the Batarians we interact with in the game, that totally depends on the Shepard I'm playing. I'd find it interesting to be able to interact with Batarians more in ME3 outside of the mercenary or terrorist context, though the events of Arrival will probably make that difficult.

It is very possible that via Indoctrination, the Batarian leadership could be led to the same conclusion that Saren came to - that cooperation means survival. It would (not incidentally) allow them to avenge themselves on all the Council races for real or imagined slights, and take back all the territory that 'should have been theirs.'

I find Batarians to be one of the most interesting species in the Mass Effect universe. I find them fascinating culturally and visually.
I noticed though that generally most peope don't like them and find them, for the most part, unappealing to look at. Anyways I was wondering what is your general feelings towards them.
when your entire races cultural hierarchy is based on how many slaves you own and the biggest buisness that your race is known for is enslaving every breathing sentient lifeform it can get its hands on, you gennerally are hated.

Anyway, a well rounded batarian in ME3 would be nice.

I don't dislike their character design or history however. I think both the art department and the writers did a great job with the Batarians.
That being said, I would like to see a more well-rounded portrayal of them now that we are going into Mass Effect 3. We should meet some Batarians that aren't slavers, pirates, mercenaries, or all-around evil d-bags. On that note, Batarian squaddie for ME3!

-spoilers for Arrival incoming-
"this is how I felt when I killed the batarians:"

I do not like their government, but the batarians who don't partake in the whole "slavery" thing aren't bad. Those who do will be blown up like the ones in Arrival.

Didn't look too closely at the planet description, eh?
"Population: Estimated 90,000 (free), 215,000 (other)"
Guess what those 215,000 non-free people in the "other" category were.

It is more to the point that there is at least enough support/apathy for the current governmental structure that the government is A) capable of recruiting enough to its ranks to enforce the will of the leaders, anddidymos1120 wrote...
Yeah, that's not really how these things work. Trying to reduce the persistance of autocratic states to things like "they're all just lazy" is more than a little silly.
In this case, apathy, not necessarily active support, is all that is needed for the Hegemony's culture and government to persist. However, apathy is in itself a form of consent given to the government.

I just drop asteroids on their planets because they make a funny noise when splattered.
Seriously though, I kill everyone if the game lets me. Shepard has single-handedly killed more people than anyone else in the galaxy. If someone is able to be killed in the game, they've upset Shepard some way, and therefore are so incredibly stupid that life dictates their lives must end.

The Bataerians Ambasdor tried to kill all Council member. Does that fit as appropriate political action? No at all!
The Bataerian on after life bar who tried to poison Shep; amazingly he is human heater!
Advice: shot them on sight and don't spare any!

I actually lol'd... while at work. Nice way to bring attention to the fact that i've not go much work...
Also I really REALLY hate Batarians as a race though individuals can be ok I suppose... In my Paragade and Paragon play throughs I always save the Batarian on Omega even though hes a first class bellend at first I can understand him been wary.
If I get the chance to take them out of the picture as a race in ME3 i'm probably gonna take it...

The Hegemony is only a symptom of the disease, though. Like any other dictatorship, they are in power either because most Batarians approve of their support of terror, or because they are too lazy to overthrow them.

I don't think they are all bad people. I felt bad for the sick one in the plague zone and helped him. But I never know which pair of eyes to look at and all those noses, imagine when they get a cold!
I think it´s telling we meet nice batarians in Omega, that makes them outcasts from their society by default. As individuals it´s as Kaidan says in ME1, but their society needs to go, for being based on slavery for starters. I don´t understand why they even had representation on the Citadel before humanity appeared. And then there´s that piece of news in ME2 about how it´s part of their culture... I´d send Specters to deal with their political leaders as many times as necessary until they fall into line or at least stop raiding other systems.
