her response when confronted about Jack should tell you everything you need to know about her attitude regarding Cerberus' less ethical endeavours.

Or it should tell what she thinks of people who barge into her office, threaten to kill her and throw her chairs around. Neither of them had the correct attitude.
What Miranda says about Teltin is this "A mistake, no question. Not mine. And one that was corrected once we discovered the extent of the experiments being performed there."

In response to your comment about her having "compelling" character aspects, firstly, compelling != likeable. And secondly, what aspects? So she's insecure and loves her sister. Whoop de do. As I said earlier, even Hitler was a human and had a heart. That doesn't mean I'd love him.

She is strong, confident, passionate, selfless, mature, pragmatic, ruthless, morally ambiguous, completely devoted to the cause she believes in and the people she loves. Her backstory is extremely interesting and some peole really enjoy the "Defrosting the Ice Queen" romance she has going on.
But you could just take a look at the OP of the Miranda fan thread. It's much better explained there.

I purposely chose the term "compelling" because that type of quality can be intensely liked or disliked. I assure you, for example, that many people like the character for her involvement with Cerberus and enjoy debating the moral, ethical and personal ramifications of that. Others no doubt strongly dislike her involvement with that organisation.

Is it just me or is that an about-face from where you were two posts ago, saying people who hate miranda hate her because of her looks?

Honestly it is somewhat amusing and ironic that people who dislike Mirianda comment that her fans are "distracted by her looks" when in many cases they have in fact formed a superficial judgement of her character based on her looks.  Not all that different from real life I suppose.

This. Fans of the character like her looks, of course, for the most part. Though you will find many fans who do not like certain aspects of her look in ME2, notably the catsuit.

But it's posters who don't like the character who are most focused on her appearance, to the point of being unable or unwilling to consider other compelling aspects of the character (of which there are many).

All of the LI characters are partly popular due to sex appeal, of course, including Miranda. That pretty much goes without saying. If you made Liara ugly, or if Tali didn't have 'dem hips, or if no one could imagine she is very beautiful under the mask, these characters wouldn't be as popular either. This is stating the obvious.

More to the bold: that's not true for everyone though.

Eva Longoria is an attractive woman.  However, I don't find her attractive.  I see her appeal, but she's not for me.  I find Eva Mendes attractive and my brothers wonder how it's possible that I can do that.  It's about personality.

If I can be really superficial here (and a bit uncouth): Tali doesn't have an ass.  Yes I looked.  "OMG, the perv!!!"  And yes, the hips are nice, but the ratio between her hips, the way her legs are shaped, and her waist throw me off.  Despite that I liked her character in ME because I felt she was strong, and that she had a good head on her shoulders.  She was definitely a capable individual who I took on just about every mission I tackled along with Ashley.

Miranda, as far as I'm concerned, doesn't have a nice ass.  I have a greater appreciation for Isabella in that regard (and going back to Tali, Isabella's legs are beautiful).  However, Miranda doesn't have to hit all the marks that get me in the nether region just so I can like her character.  Tali didn't and succeeded in making me like her.  Miranda had to be more than just the femme fatale.  I'm passed the age when it was just looks that did it for me.  And I have to thank two good-looking women who played games with me as well for teaching me that there's more than just what's on the surface.  Sounds cliche and like I'm trying to score points, but I can't stress enough how much I can't be bothered really.

This is why I like Ashley so much.  She's not the most beautiful woman in the world or the most easy to imagine getting along with, but she's confident, smart, and (again) has a good head on her shoulders.  I could benefit greatly by having more women like her in my life.

No, what I said before was that posters who don't like her tend to be most focused on her looks (more tightly focused on them than fans).

If you refer to the Miranda thread, you will find that her involvement with Cerberus, and especially her continued involvement, is a source of debate among fans.

There's a thread in the character subforum that contains a lot of discussion of this kind. It's not hard to find.

I learned long ago to stay away from character fan threads, for a lot of reasons, but the pertinent one here is in the name: Fan Thread. Not the place to go for an actual discussion. Also not the place to go if you're not keen on seeing the characters of ME2 posed in every kind of sexual position with every kind of species in the ME universe.

1. No, I wouldn't. I've tried more than once. The fanrage is epic.

It doesn't matter whether you go there or not. The point is: if you did go there, you'd find out more about why people like the character.

Of course. However, I think it is clear that sex appeal plays a role in the popularity of the LI characters. That is not the same as saying it is the only reason they are popular. I don't believe that is so, and have said as much. (But, obviously, it is a contributing factor in every case.)

Well maybe it's changed. Maybe the BSN moderators have actually started moderating something. But when I used to visit fan threads it was basically pages and pages of toon porn mixed with endless screenshots of the character looking sexy/cute/whatever. Not that the fans are focused on looks, of course.

The Miranda thread can be gushy. But we do try to have substantial debate even though we have our bad apples.

Of course fans care about looks. Beyond that statement of the obvious, the point you are arguing is really simplistic and reductive. Just as it would be if you were arguing that people only care about looks in real life. Fans of these characters do care about their looks, to a greater or lesser extent. But they also care about other things, usually a lot.

@ OP: Seeing as how Miranda's costume was completely illogical, (in fact one of the most illogical only to be topped by Jack), I'm sure she'll be wearing nothing but her undies and a bra...if that.

As far as I'm concerned, most respectable women that I've come across don't really like the idea of showcasing themselves like strippers and such so perhaps Miri (if she's even around long enough in ME3 since she survives in my playthroughs) will be wearing some armor and not some stupid ass heels/stripper uniform with a rebreather. A rebreather...wtf!?

Oh, no. That will never do. Where's the real Miranda that is voiced and has her face based off of Robert Carlyle?

I hate all you damn trolls. I post a nice picture and you make fun of it.

Just because you romance with characters like tali, or liara, or ****ing jack, doesn't mean you make other characters seem inferior.

Here's a hint: GO TO A DAMN HATE THREAD!!!!!!

Miranda is a femme fatale character. As such she look sexy in Mass Effect 3 as well, whiners be damned.

Her Mass Effect 2 DLC armor made sense for combat and the vacuum, but it wasn't sexy at all and sort of undercut that femme fatale aspect.

If Mass Effect 3 characters don't have seperate outfits for when in & out of combat, she should be wearing something that is both sexy and practical for combat in the vacuum. She should have light armor that is both form-fitting and sexy, as befits the character, rather than the somewhat bulky armor she had in the DLC.

Oh, I'd say the femme fatale aspect has been pretty well undercut by her complete failure to act as a femme fatale.

Well, apart from the one dude always going like ZOMG RANDA RANDA RANDA Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB it's actually a pretty decent discussion thread. My favorite one that is consistently top-of-page in the character/romance section.

I found that really lovely too, especially because she has a slight smile on her face when she does it. Makes you feel like she's saluting because she respects Shep, not just because she feels she has to.

That catsuit does not fit her at all.....

Miranda fits the classic definition of one.

The morally ambiguous Femme Fatale is the typical client in a hardboiled detective story. You know the type. Dressed all in black with legs up to here, she slinks into the PI's office, holding a cigarette on a long, long, holder, saying "Oh, Mr. Rockhammer, you're the only one who can help me find out who killed my extremely wealthy husband." Did she do it? Do I care? Where'd that saxophone music come from? Whatever her story is, whether she did it or not, she's definitely keeping some secrets.
She's stunningly beautiful and alluring, and she knows it. Made famous by Film Noir and hard-boiled detective stories, the Femme Fatale manipulates and confuses the hero with her undeniable aura of sexiness and danger. He knows she's walking trouble and that she knows much more about the bad guys than she should, but damn it if he can't resist her feminine wiles.
Unlike the virginal and sweet Damsel In Distress (or an Action Girl with a similar gentle attitude), the Femme Fatale exploits everything she's got to wrap men around her finger. However, Status Quo is God, so by the end of the story, the Femme Fatale must either be reformed by the hero to the side of good and lose much of her appeal in the process, or be outwitted by him to her doom.

http://tvtropes.org/...ain/FemmeFatale

Morally ambiguous? Check.

Stunningly beautiful and alluring? Check.

Knows much more about the bad guys (Cerberus) than she should? Check.

Aura of sexiness and danger? Check.

Exploits her appearance for personal gain? Check.

Reformed by the hero in the end? Check.

She's also listed as an example of a femme fatale on the TV Tropes page.
