I've killed the first parasite on the tree of life, and can't find any nuts to extend the walkway - there's nothing in the palace's tree (TAB highlighting doesn't show anything, there's nothing clickable) and same goes for in the tree of life area itself. Using the console with the code "miscbq" doesn't work - I just get the healing variety of nuts.

Have I missed something? This is the furtherest I've been in BG2 (get too bogged down in my BG1 games)

Okay, the item code needed was "MISCB4" - but still have no idea why I couldn't get them off the tree in the palace.

They way it is suppose to work is the Palace tree is a useable object. If you place your cursor on the base of the tree, it should turn to a circle (like, for example, the mephit machine controls in Jon's Dungeon). If you click, it should dispense the nuts.

No tab highlighting with stuff like that.

I hope this helps. Good luck with the fight!

Best,

A.

Yeah, I did try that, but that didn't work. Ah well, at least there was a work-around.

Thanks for the luck - Tree of life Irenicus was quite difficult, but luckily he mazed charname and couldn't target anyone else (they had all fled out of sight) so when charname got out of the maze, Jon's buffs had wore off.

I seriously think the nine hells Irenicus was way easier. Slayer Jon ain't got that oomph, you know? (But I'm still not game to try SCS yet!)

I'm sorry to hear your tree was on the fritz. I'm glad you worked around it though. :)

More importantly, congrats on finishing SoA! It sounds like you did an excellent job. Many find bothr Irenicus fights difficult the first time through (I know I did).

I think the original game did a pretty good job with those fights all told. Due to the structure of the game, those final fights were awkward to balance. Here's what I mean by that.

Following the logic of the story (and assuming the PC has some fondness for Imoen) a player might gather 15k gold as quickly as possible, immediately rescue Imoen, and then single-mindedly seek out Jon. Now, if you do that, you can end up with a party that has very limited items experience and items at the time of the endgame. Those final fights had to be composed in such a way that a novice "save sis" player wouldn't find themselves terribly frustrated while a "do it all" player could still find the fights interesting. That's not an easy thing to do of course. Given the tradeoffs -and given that composing radically different battles based on party level wasn't feasible- I think they did a pretty darn good job.

When I first tried BG I knew absolutely zilch about DnD and roleplaying games in general (My only experience with DnD had occurred when my mother inexplicably bought.the PnP game for me when I was far too young to understand it. A few days later, I brought it with me on a trip to my grandmothers house simply because I liked the picture on the box. My grandmother saw it, declared I had "brought the devil into her home", and took it away. That was the full extent of my DnD exposure.) Do to my ignorance, and my decision to "save sis" that final fight was pretty tough for me. Importantly, could do it though. And at the same time, many experienced 2nd edition savvy player still enjoy it. That was the challenge they faced when they composed the battle, and I think their execution was admirable all things considered.

Anyhoo. Once again: congrats! And best of luck in ToB!

Good Hunting.

A.

I ended a no-reload run with this exact issue. If you extend the tree without gathering nuts first the game then doesn't let you take them. Reloading from an earlier save works, if you have one...

(I could have claimed a bug but I knew I should have taken them, just forgot and didn't realise they wouldn't be available afterwards).

To be honest, I think it would've been better if the tree extended after killing the respective parasites - that makes sense to me, especially because you only find out about the nuts once you're in the area and you could trigger this essentially game-breaking bug.

@Alesia: Cheers! Yeah, I had a lot of goodies and a lot of arcane firepower, coupled with Anomen and two paladins with access to the decent 2nd level cleric buffs, so went in guns blazing.
