Honestly, I'm pretty clueless about BG2 multiplayer and have no real idea of how to make it work, so any help would be appreciated.

A friend and I are trying to play BG2 multiplayer, on two seperate computers in the same house, using two different copies of the game, using the same network and it's not working. I'm using TCP/IP (nothing else seems to work) and I can create the game fine, but he can't join. It says "Cannot connect to session".

The problem is not the game but your network.

First read the Multiplayer parts of your SoA Manual, which should be on one of your CDs.
Second test the network with some other program to see if it is just the network.

The readme.txt in the game directory also provides advice. It's been a while since I used multiplayer but I'd start by checking in this order;
- Both pc's have the game exe (can't remember if this needs to be bgmain.exe) added as exceptions to their firewall list (assuming you have windows os and firewalls enabled).
- Failing that check the router has uPNP enabled.
- If still no joy look at auto-forwarding ports as per the readme.
