So the question is simple. Are you willing to accept a few spoilers to see more RPG elements ?

I used to desperately want to see some RPG spoilers, but I think I burned myself out on it and gave up...would certainly be nice if BW did cough up though.Sylvianus wrote...

So I ask you - what RPG elements can you think of that aren't related to combat and we don't already know a ton about? We know ME3 will have dialogue and character interaction, and we know you will be able to make choices, so why would we need a video showing these off?
My primary interest in ME3 game mechanics is whether the persuasion system is going to get an overhaul. We don't need a video about it but threads about it that came up during the last year or so were ignored by the developer representatives here (while combat related questions were rather regularly answered).
Another non-combat element seen in other games is stealth but it's not expected to be seen in ME3.

They may not have decided what to do with the persuasion system. Before ME2 was rleased they talked about interrupts, so I imagine that when they have decided they'll give us some information about it.xentar wrote...

With regards to combat, most stuff in the game relates back to combat in some way. The same goes for virtually any RPG, shooter or action game ever made. The stuff not related to combat - story, choices - are the things Bioware are trying to keep close to their chest for ME3's marketing. Also, combat is the area of the game thats seen the most improvement for ME3 so it makes sense they want to talk about it. Combat is an intergal part of ME games, and RPGs/shooters/action games in general, so it should be as good as they can make it. A lot of the RPG stuff is there to augment the combat, but isn't as fundamental as the combat itself.

-Increasing magic level or increasing your number of spells
-Increasing your armour skill or picking a better set of armour
-Increasing your weapon skill or picking a better weapon
All these are major, almost defining features of swords 'n' magic RPGs, and all features related to combat. Take Oblivion or Morrowind - almost every customizable skill/ability is focused on making you better in combat.
The only reason people think ME is different is because it has guns instead of swords. Its still like every other RPG in that almost everything you can customize is geared towards making you better at combat. The main difference is that ME has a more focused story than many other RPGs.
So I ask you - what RPG elements can you think of that aren't related to combat and we don't already know a ton about?
I have to disagree that these elements define an RPG, tho they certainly would be present. Story, choices and consequences, NPC interaction, dialogue, stats spent on non combat skills are some of the elements more unique to RPGs. Lots of game genres have item customisation and better weapons.
If you need examples of non combat stats: ME1 had charm/intimidate stats, NWN had lots of non combat stats-lockpicking, persuade, intimidate, bluff, crafting etc.
..........
So, to answer the OP. I don't want spoilers regarding story or interaction with NPCs or choices and consequences or mission details.
I'd quite like to see the skill trees and statistical elements and details of character/item/armour customisation tho.
Have fun

I did say almost, and I didn't say they were all of the defining features, but you're right - the choices and the character interaction are the main things that make a game an RPG, and frankly I think Bioware has nailed these. I don't need a video telling me that I'll be able to talk to characters in ME3 - its a given.Shia Luck wrote...

Btw, you don't need spoiler to show "RPG elements".
Yes you do, unless you're showing a Demo of some quest that will not happen in game or will be completely not connected to main game.
That would be a big waste of resources.

It depends much on what is perceived as RolePlay. It seems to me that many developers see weapon stats, ability trees and mechanics as role-play. Obviously will that influence many players of such games.
To play a role does not mean that you do not care about such things, but you get a why of it that should be different in a role-play-game than in a roll-play-game.
I can speak for myself and use an example: I often end up playing "monty haul" both with gear and dialogues because I worry about missing out, or doing something wrong. Not just wrong as counterproductive with mechanics in mind, but wrong against the idea I have of my character's role/personality and intentions.
I'd put spoilers as something related to this.
To role-play, aka playing a role rather than winning the game, also includes intent. Intentions related to our actions do require that we do have some ideas on how actions and re-actions work.
In a game is this very simplified since it all got to be coded by someone and our choices usually are interpreted through proxies, like in Mass Effect do we select a class we won't be intimately familiar with before we try it, we select chat lines through short "translations" of the chat lines.
In short does it create many levels that need to be interpreted to actually manage to play our character's role as we think it should.
(I bet many will object to being sucked into meta-game thoughts because it "ruins" immersion. However, immersion happens in our brain, sometimes despite knowing things are not real, but sometimes because we know things are not real.
I write game as if it is not "real" here, that isn't quite accurate, because our emotions, be it through a game, through a movie, through any other fantasy, is real and it happened, even if it didn't happen in the physical world. Our brain doesn't really distinguish unless we strongly educate it to, aka trying to avoid empathy and self-awareness.)
I read some research on spoilers a few months back. The conclusion was actually that spoilers did statistically improve the satisfaction with the product (books and movies).
It seems, that despite the instinct reaction of being annoyed by spoilers, do we relax more, enjoy more, and experience more when we do not have to worry quite so much.

Well, story progression and decision making you obviously will need to show some spoilers. But amor, weapon and character customization and classes (powers) evolution you don't.

I'm honestly really not happy with the way they've handled ME3 trailers. There's so many other mechanics I want to see other than pew boom pew boom, which is all they've ever shown. I would also like if they could show us new locations and some small bits from them.

Like the location in the Squad Leader trailer (when is part 2 coming out on that one?) which no-one knows where it is.
