Hello bioware forums, i bought mass effect 2 a while back on steam, now i eventually got round to playing it, i bought all of the dlc yesterday and installed them, now when i go to launch the game, it says Failed to authenticate the disc. please insert the correct disc and try again.
I have a digital copy so no disc, i have already been in contact with ea support and the best thing they could do was offer me the game with cerberus dlc on origin, but i bought every dlc apart from genesis and he coudln't give all the dlc, i ain't going to buy them all again over some error, please help me forums.
I don't want to end up using some cd crack or something to fix this unless its the only option/
Thanks for reading.

I am running windows 7 64-bit, my pc can handle the requirments of the game, its a digital copy, i dont know how to put a picture here of my configuration tool of mass effect 2.

Game isn't modified in anyway,  when the error pops up after i click cancel it launches for a second then closes.

My best guess would be that one of the DLCs erroneously patched you to a retail .exe.

Here's a pretty quick thing to try: in Steam, right-click on ME2 and select "Properties." Select the "Local Files" tab and click the button that says "Verify integrity of game cache..." Steam will automatically download replacements for any files that do not pass this quick test.

BTW, DLCs are linked to an EA account, not to a particular copy of ME2, so I believe you'd be fine to try using an Origin copy. One hopes you could get your Steam copy working rather than going through the hassle of transferring services, though.

If Kloreeps method doesnt work, delete the masseffect2.exe file, and then try it again.
It may not fix the problem if it has a complete exe file to compare against.
