Agreed, Morbane. War Pigs, Iron Man, Blue Moon, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Crazy Train. You just can't beat Ozzy for vocal quality and lyrics (though I don't know that he actually wrote any of the lyrics -- never bothered to check... too busy rocking out.)

As for Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here (the album and the title track) along with Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Welcome to the Machine are without doubt, must have classic tracks, along with Dark Side of the Moon, Money and Run, Rabbit Run.

Someone, anyone, who the hell is Marilion? Links, please?

Marilion is apparently something made of a substance called "vinyl". Some sort of living room furniture, perhaps?

What?  Never heard of the mighty Marillos?
Shameful!
Although if you're not in the UK, Canada, most of europe & bits of south America, you might not have heard of them.
Having said that, they're a bit of a niche band - most people in the UK I know think that Fish is still the lead singer, but he left about 20 years ago!

Anyhow - if you like Floyd & similar, you'll most likely like Marillion too - here's a link to their site:  www.marillion.com/home.htm & if you're interested, there are free CD samplers you can send for or download: www.marillion.com/music/racket/crash.htm
If nothing else, get yourself a copy of the Marbles double album!

Now, back to the toolset..

That works. However, when tavern building I would suggest going back a bit to this

Seriously? NWN music. Have it all in Winamp. Keeps me in the mood imagining what I want to see built. Like to mix some Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and that sort of thing in there too.

Heck, I listen to Mask of the Betrayer stuff when I sleep. Creepy droning music always makes me feel cozy.

Wow - what a blast from the past - I havent heard that song in forever and a day - marillion was never the same without fish - that voice of his is unique for the dramatic lyrics in the first album (vinyl)^_^

I suppose I'm a bit odd that way. I like Scheherazade, Carmen, Chopin, Tomita, Wagner, alternative rock, &c. Sometimes I pop the TV over to the Reggae channel when I really need to focus. But I think just playing a quality CRPG or reading a fantasy novel is good for finding inspiration.

Boy, I remember when Animal came out.  For some reason it always conjurs images of leopard print spandex (*shiver*).  I coulda sworn they were wearing it in the video but it must of been another group at the same time.

I wanted to put Carol of the Bells in the module I made for the SoZ Holiday project. It would have made good combat music.

Harumph!

OK--resurrecting another thread, but let me say I'm really feeling like I got to be more involved in this community: you already love DnD and now I learn we share musical taste too. Ahh--

I don't spend much time in the toolset but have great plans to. I've been taking notes, fleshing out characters and plots and weaving themes in a notebook since playing A Dance with Rogues several years ago. One day I hope to make the module (or modules).

My most active muses are Radiohead, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, The Church and Led Zeppelin.

Interesting.  I had been curious what this "Slowdive" was (of which you were a fan), but I had never actually checked.  Now that I've heard it, I like it.  You may have facilitated the creation of another Slowdive Fan.

I'm afraid I don't listen to anything for inspiration while building.  I do have music playing while building, but that's because I always have music playing.

Yeah, they were part of the whole "Shoegazer" era in the early-mid 90s. Here are a couple more bands from that era:
A good pair of headphones is strongly encouraged...
Lush
Ride
Swervedriver
Chapterhouse
MBV (the king of them all)
Ulrich Schnauss (modern stuff)
The beginning of it all

Enjoy, happy building Image IPB

It's also the Tolkien book. Pseudo-history and mythology at its best. (a good resource perhaps for you builder types?)

Though Marillion the band hasn't really been my thing, they're pretty damn legendary. I'm still pretty much amazed how some haven't heard of prog, the most sophisticated and "rock" genre there is. Many a man would enjoy vastly.

I'm currently listening to the soundtracks for the DJ Hero games. Tears For Fears vs Mos Def/DJ Shadow is full of win.

Soundtracks for the Homeworld games. You should listen to them if you've never heard them, they are awesome.

With Amn being "Spain/Portugal", the music is appropriate for my campaign setting.
