It's gonna be terrible.

Bad idea from the start. Taking an RPG narrative and making it into film? Epic fail.

The First Contact War would be a guaranteed box office flop.

Why would that be any more likely to flop than any other ME tie-in?  Regardless of story (assuming an at least semi-decent production) it seems like the movie could appeal to both general SF fans and people curious to see any game tie-in, but doing the first game's story seems like something that can't help but annoy a fair percentage of the second group, doesn't it?

It's not based on the First Contact War. The Real Live Film will be based on ME1.

I believe the Anime Film that is being made by Funimation will be based on the First Contact War.

.....and PLEASE stop Complaining about it. They haven't even started Pre-Production and Principle Photography yet. Not to mention that a Director hasn't been chosen yet.:?

Don't judge a film before you start seeing ANYTHING about it.

And don't jinx and lose faith. If you're a real Mass Effect Fan, you should be exicted. Sure you may have concerns, but don't let the concerns overpower you which results in complete anger towards the film.:(

A real fan can't criticize? That'a a bling fan. Even though the movie ain't even in production, the sole fact it's gonna adapt ME1 and thus Shepard IS a valid reason to complain.

My thoughts?

If I want to see an adaptation of ME1, I'll do it myself. It'll be about 20 times longer than any movie version and will unfold the way I want it to, not someone else's vision.

This. I don't have any form of high expectation from the movie and won't until/unless I see some really good people attatched to it. And even then the fact that they're doing it the way they are makes me wonder.

If Bay comes anywhere near the movie, I'll start wishing Uwe Boll was in charge. After all, if you're gonna f*ck something up with excessive explosions and car chases, you may as well go for the master of completely bollocksing movies with unneccessary content.

Boll would make Conrad the main character.

Even that would be better than a movie about Shepard.

This, I'd like to see a new story. People who don't know a thing about ME after all this time can sod off.

The funny thing is as much as most of you disagree and hate the idea, you would still go and see it either way haha =P

I would have to be pretty naive to believe a video game movie is going to happen just because it's "in development". If they ever get to principal photography, then we'll talk.

And when we do talk, it'll be about how they are ruining Mass Effect. A shot will leak of an Asari with hair and everyone here will explode. This is just the reality of the film industry. BioWare is going to get eaten alive by the process.

When people picture a ME movie, they're picturing a $300 million film. If this move happens, it will be lucky to have a budget of $30 million.

Could be worse.

Imagine if they tried to do it on a 1960s TV series budget.

We'd end up with Daleks as Reapers.

this is why i'd be interested in a guy like peter jackson being involved, or chris nolan.....they've both taken iconic media and made good movies out of them, while staying relatively true to the character and plot......

also....if i'm not mistaken hudson is involved in the process with legenday, if bioware's going to have their name on it, i'm sure they'll be involved in the creative process...

If it involved Shepard it will be bad. There should not be a canon Shepard in the series. The books only mention Shepard by that title, no gender, no actions, no description of physical appearance, and that's how it needs to remain as far as the "canon" goes.

if they are to make a movie, they said it'll ahe shep, most likely male
1-if it ever is made, it will be at least a year if not 2 or 3 after ME3 is out so they won't care about canon
2-if i can remember correctly, BW tracked the character creations and the majority were male
3-hollywood generally makes action movies with a male lead....

there was a bigger break down of the choices statistically, but http://www.rockpaper...rs-play-female/

It's a movie based on a video game, how good can it honestly become? Unless they make it before Shep's time then it won't be good.

Don't care. Won't watch it. Video game movies are absolutely terrible, always.

I liked Mortal Kombat and the first Resident Evil move was a fun reimagining of the source material I thought.

That said I'm pessimistic as always.

I think the movie will range somewhere between "absolutely horrible" and "good but still inferior to the game". I'll still see it even if it's bad though.

Honestly, if you're not a fan of the concept of making films and animations about Mass Effect. Just don't watch them.
