I'd at least like a bit of dialogue to reflect and explain why Anderson isn't Councilor in my "Councilor Anderson" imports, if nothing else. It'd be pretty weak if it just retcons you without a single word from him or anybody on the matter.
Does choosing Anderson or Udina actually matter at all?

The choice still mattered in ME2. If by the time ME3 takes place he quits and Udina ends up with the job, that's fine. My choice still mattered. Though to be honest it should of never been our choice to begin with. Its silly that just because we nominated one means they have to win. Not everything in the story has to happen the way we want it to, otherwise the story would just be stale. So the guy you wanted to be chancellor was for a while but then quits his job and the guy you didn't want ends up taking it. That's just how life is, you win some you loose some.

like it's been said by others several times:
When shep chooses in ME1 that was NOT " technically as far as IC story goes" the auto write in, there WAS an election though sheps celebrity pretty much pushed your choice into the position.
The books did have it that Anderson hated the pressures and life behind the desk so much he removed himself, and placed Udina....which even then there could be a new chancellor anyway. And this also allowed him to Help Sanders.
The books are " more" cannon than people think. A big reason why they NEVER address Shep as anything other than Commander shepard, never mentioning gender or some of the other events other than unavoidable conclusions. " I do believe they wrote in Shep blowing the collector base...but at the same time even in that aftermath Cerberus was able to recover a lot of info and tech anyway. also books are " what others are doing inbetweeen" and so far events in the books have directly effected or played part in the games.
So I cant and wont say the choices never mattered. but in the end " YOU are Shepard..you control YOUR life. the political arena is one outside of our control even if we have some influence over it. I hate Udina, and loved putting Anderson in the big chair...but it also depressed the hell out of him. I really feel it more realistic to keep our ability to directly control " outside" matters like that outside of our reach completely.

My thoughts exactly. Why the heck is hero of the Citadel Cmd. Shepard choosing who occupies one of humanity's most important political positions? I think I went with Anderson in the end, but I'm not going to get too cut up about it.

Considering it's one of the 'choices' that made it into the comic has me thinking there will be something coming out of it. Especially when you also consider that to fix the 'missed save' issue they had it so there was extra dialogue in the shuttle trip with Miranda and Jacob at the start of ME2 to account for the choice.
As to what it will produce, am thinking that it'll come down to connections with people in authority. Anderson giving us better connections with military forces, Udina giving better connections with political allies maybe?
