We do not allow discussion on how to circumvent copy protection (on our games or on anyones games) here. Please do not discuss that here. People doing so risk being banned.

I am trying to get details to let everyone know (I have been for a while now as have members of the ME team). When I have information, we will let you know so you can accurately make up your minds, pro or con, with the real detail instead of rumors and such from the intarwebs.

I'm confused. Is the point behind Origin scanning your computer copy protection? I thought that it was so that on top of making you pay for the game and the multiplayer pass they could rummage through your personal information and sell it to third party's to make even more money.

I'll admit, when I heard about Origin I came very close to cancelling my preorder as well. I'm willing to pay to for a game, but my privacy is something that I'm not willing to give up to play a game, and Origins snooping goes too far for my liking.

I'm praying that you only need to use Origin for the installation of the game- so I can remove it from my computer as quickly as possible. I think that's wishful thinking though.

It was a hard deciosion. Mass Effect is my most liked game series, but as long as Origin scans my disk (even medical softwares are scanned) this is no way. There is proof for this on youtube and other websites.

I hope EA will changes this or Bioware is going without Origin for the Single-player.

Let me know if it is without and my suscription is back in a second.

Please Bioware. I love you games. Dont let EA ruin you!

Unite against Origin. If we are enough, than they will hear US!

(and yes I know enough to protect my pc from what origin does, but I wont allow something like origin on my PC)

Vote for it.

I stand by you.  I've cancelled my order a while back as well.

You people are a pack of whiners. Ohhh boohoo you canceled your reservation because of the EA steam, everyone should pat you on the shoulder and let you cry it out!!! Listen they're not harming your system they as a company wish to use this to streamline efforts. Sorry to tell you but disks are being phased out. It's part of staying competitive in this bogged market.

Do you work for EA ?  Or were you hired to get on the forums ?  Oh lastly do you own EA stock ?

Why should I give a darn about a company's effort to streamline at my expense ?  Oh and disks are going away about as fast as DVDs are, blueray's having a hard time being seen as a better value.     Maybe video games will start doing digital copy pack ins too.....wait a sec.....

The moment hard copies disappear sales will drop and as a seperate phenomenon piracy will sky rocket.  Your cutting down the steps needed by putting it digital only in the first place.  It's the worst move the industry could make.

Wait, when was it confirmed that you would need Origin itself to play ME3? I knew about us needing an Origin account, but that's what we're using to access the BSN. As far as I know, you don't need to install Origin itself to play ME3 just yet...

I haven't seen it confirmed, but I'd consider it a virtual certainty since its required to install older games on your PC. I bought a copy of ME1 two years ago, before ME2 came out and it used the EA installer. This time when I was re-installing ME1 on my PC I had to install Origin along with it or I couldn't play ME.

Is that with the disk or without?

Are you just talking about PC version here? I sure the 360 and PS3 won't have to worry about that.

The Bioware Defense Force is out in full form, I guess.

If some of you guys can't understand the issue that the OP has with Origin, then you shouldn't bother posting. Acting like a model fanboy doesn't earn you any points from anyone.

Well I'm on PC, and it annoys me that I have ME1 & 2 on separate platforms (Steam & Origin) but I'm not going to skip on ME3 because it skipped Steam. Instead, I will skip future EA titles that choose that route. I'm in it till the end of the story, and I want the CE this time around. My hands are tied, but not forever.

lol at people who store major confidential information on the same PC that they browse the internet with and play games on. Origin was enough for me to avoid BF3, but it's not going to stop me from playing ME3.

I don't support Origin's snooping habits, but jesus I'm not going to go crazy over EA looking through my program folders.

Same here except I might still get BF3. As for them scanning my folders all they'll find are my legal games, some non cheating mods, and they just might find some porn that's it lol.

If I told you Steam was the same would it destroy your world?

EDIT: If I remember right the difference is that Steam warns you and allows you to jump ship. I bet half the users on Steam still don't know that anyways. Still more than EA has done though.

"Going crazy" over something you disapprove of is not a bad thing. EA does not need to be looking through our program folders in the first place.

EA "is a major American developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games."

Our PC's are just that..OUR PC's. PERSONAL computers. Origin is a digital distribution platform and DRM, it has no business scanning our computers, or having access to non-game related information. Origin is scanning entire directories and has access to those directories, and Origin sends information back to EA/various servers, and shares that information with third parties. We are simply expressing our disapproval of these actions. I'm sure some people are overreacting but they are justified in doing so. Yes you can use the argument "don't like it? don't install it." which is what many are doing, but that doesn't need to even happen. EA does not need to go this route, just make the games, take our money, and give us the game. That is the model EA and consumers have followed since the begining of video games and I really do not understand WHY they need to go down this road they are going with Origin. I also don't understand why anyone other than EA would disapprove of us expressing our disapproval. Even if you don't care if Origin scans your PC/gathers personal info, what would it hurt if they stopped doing it? Nothing.

I'm simply saying what Origin is doing is not even needed and many people do not approve of it. The only action that seems to get the attention of EA is people going full retard over things like this. Just remove this unnecessary crap from Origin, that's all we ask. We're not even asking to abandon Origin..just stop with the data harvesting. Want game related stuff to help make better games? fine, but stick to JUST THAT and nothing else.

Oh and would you kindly give us dedicated servers back? (not this rent-a-server bs) pretty please?

Akon, if you reserved at a GameStop you can cancel a preorder at ANY TIME until you pick it up and open it (or 30 days after you pick it up, but that's unlikely). Yeah, ME2 will probably have Origin forced into it, but if you want to be an optimist, you don't have to cancel your preorder until it comes out.

If Origin asked to scan my Steam directory, I'd say no. My Steam directory probably contains personal information like credit card transactions, authentication codes, etc.. If Origin asked for my Steam profile's URL... okay I still wouldn't do it because it's a breach of privacy to anyone on my friend's list, which is also shown there. Yeah, friend lists are viewable on Steam profiles anyway, but there's that additional bit of info of connecting it to another account and other friends lists. Um... I wouldn't mind if they just knew what games I owned if they asked and there was a way of getting JUST my Steam game list.

Yeah. Dedicated servers are the only sustainable method of hosting multiplayer games (other than peer-to-peer, which is also gone in many games now). PC games started online multiplayer and that's been the prefered method since the beginning for a reason.

You can have a PC filled with sensitive information, connect it to the net, and still have privacy. Just keep your OS, software, browser, and antivirus up to date and be careful about what you do and you will be fine.

"if it is on the net it is available to anyone" we are not putting the directories Origin is scanning on the internet..they are on our PC's..we are simply saying stop scanning them - its not needed.

The world is moving to a more digital way of life, but that does NOT mean we have to allow applications to data harvest our PC's. What Origin is doing makes no sense for EA to be doing. Just make the damn games and sell them to us.

Sorry, but they are the same. Its just a slight difference int the wording of the EULA's.
Steam doesnt tell you extactly what its doing, but tells you why its doing it.
Origin tells you exactly what its doing, but doesnt say why.

Anyway, its now at the point where my purchasing of ME3 is reliant on Origin not being required. If it is a requirement, I shall thank Bioware for their previous efforts, and wish them well in the future.

Buying it on console is not an option. For the cost of a console, and an extra TV so I'm not harrassed by flatmate who wants to watch something on cable, I could upgrade my PC and buy a swag of games that do not require Origin or DRM.

Does it make me a bad person that I simply dont care about Origins or Steams EULA?

Granted I dislike HAVING to have either one, but there they are... thanks to my game purchases, I dont quite mind it, but if I could do without either.... that'd be wonderful.

But then again.... *sigh* I really dont care all that much either way... damn apathy

Not a bad person, just not helping in the fight for our rights & privacy. Corporations, government, and law enforcement would be coming into our homes, stopping us at every corner, interrogating, indoctrinating, and marketing us if everyone had the same mindset you do. If EA/other corps had it their way they would have complete and total access to your pc, able to delete things off it, keeping tabs on everything you do with it, etc to be able to make more money off you. Bury your head in the sand and eventually someone will take a sword to it
