With all due respect sir,  video evidence is not rumor,  it is details.  We can make up our minds right now,  we know exactly what it's doing,  it's scanning things that are very likely illegal to scan.  Tax information,  with the included social security numbers and potentially bank account numbers are protected.

So the question is,  will you EAites make up your minds to do the right thing and shelve Origin?

Because if you guys don't want to do it,  I'm going to forward all of the links and the EULA to my congressman and see what his thoughts are.

I appreciate you at least giving us some details. But We have already seen with our own eyes what EA is doing with Origin. I have no problem with Origin being a digital distribution & DRM platform. I just have a problem with it datamining my pc and sending information back home. It does not need to be doing this, EA has no business scanning my PC, and Bioware would do itself and its fans a great service by having Casey shove a middle finger in the face of whatever bosh'tet at EA made you guys sign onto this Origin bs.

I wouldn't say what I posted circumvents copyright, but I suppose I saw it coming. Thanks for not banning me!

Yeah, EA owns Bioware.  For some reason, this seems to be a really difficult concept for people to grasp.  IOW, no, Bioware is not going to launch some revolt against EA and it wouldn't be doing itself a service if it tried. I'm real sure Casey is interested in antagonizing people who can fire him too.

as stated in the other topic, i will not get it as long origin is a must to play it. already said no to BF3 just because of this.
on a german forum, some one posted to links of 2 news reports regarding origin and BF3. one lawyer said thats wrong what EA is doing and is against the privacy laws.
they asked some people and they said too, that they will not buy the game just because of that.
no way i will let this stuff scanning my pc.

+1 for Console games... if anything would kill PC gaming, it'd be software like Origin.

Luckily, I started playing Mass Effect on consoles and never changed to the PC for it. Because if Origin is required to play ME3, I'd cancel my pre-order too. Giving a corporation the ability to sift through my private documents and information on my computer is not allowed. Same reason I deleted my Facebook because they track your information on there as well.

If they were smart, they would've kept their products on Steam. This is hurting PC gaming right now and is certainly hurting their BF3 sales.

http://www.amazon.co...20131577&sr=8-4

When you have players not only on Amazon but many other websites not even going to buy BF3 for the PC which is the platform that gave is mostly made for because of Origin, then something is wrong. Making their own client is one thing, but having them go through your stuff is another.

At least The Old Republic won't require Origin in any kind of way, thank goodness.

Origin is hovering over a thin line between software and spyware. Bioware, you guys have power, and leverage. You are the cream of EA's crop. Put your damned foot down and do something for your fans. Either remove the Origin requirement or get them to fix it.

Just because he's not offering to negotiate doesn't mean people aren't allowed to express their frustrations.

I look at Origin as EA going "We hate end users and don't want them to play our games."  The BF3 "You must be in Battlelog, Origin, and the game to play because we hate PC players and want them to suffer our terrible programming" is especially annoying. It is why I am probably going to forgo buying any EA games for the next several months or possibly years.

That would be as much of an exercise in futility as the real Occupy movement.  It's a frustrating world we live in when people are able to recognize the inescapable downward-spiraling ****storm the corporations and media have us in, but the most anyone can do about it is say: "Hey, you have us in an inescapable downward-spiraling ****storm!.....Stop it, you!"

I remember when 1984 was a work of cautionary fiction and not an accurate examination of reality.

It's still not an accurate examination of reality.  The world enivisioned by Orwell isn't much like ours at all. For one thing, it didn't have corporations.  It barely had small businesses.  But people sure do love to name-drop that novel whenever anything even somewhat surveillance-related comes up.  A slightly better fit (but still not a great one) is actually Brave New World, at least as far as cultural attitudes go.

It's fine to express your frustrations, it's not fine to discuss how to circumvent copy protection.

The difference is not that complicated:

"This sucks because..."  = Okay
vs.
"Yeah, it does suck, but if you want to work around it you can..." = Against forum rules

If the former wasn't allowed, CP would have just locked the thread.

Ready my post. I did not say anything about how to circumvent piracy protection.

Maybe "accurate examination" was the wrong wording.  "Disturbing parallels" would be more appropriate.  If you want accurate examination try Feed by M.T. Anderson, even more appropriate than Brave New World for this discussion.  Thanks for entirely circumventing the point I was making by calling out my less than ideal reference though.

I agree completely.  At no time did I assert that it is ok to discuss how to circumvent copy protection on these forums.

I think Origins is trying to phrase out PC gaming since its not really affecting console gamers. Its too easy to pirate games on PC and EA is trying to prevent people from doing that exact thing. Heck if i remember right EA was/did try to make used games obsolete/pointless to get, making it worth your time to buy the games new. But overall this is a measure to prevent Pirating games not to encourage it and from my understanding its the same thing as Steam, just Origins is more open on what its actually doing.
