I'm doing a sentinel run and want to take shotgun on Collector ship. I'd like to have the shotgun for as much of the game as possible, but I would also like to have the three shotgun upgrades at the collector ship ( can buy one on tuchanka - thats why I need Mordin's LM ).
I recruit Kasumi and Zaeed and open Grunt's chamber before Horizon, so if I just do N7 missions after horizon will Mordin's LM become available before the DCS?
Usually I would do this:
(1) Tali RM
(2) Samara RM - this will open up Mordin's LM, and I can get the 3rd upgrade on Tuchanka
Not in a big rush, just doing Kasumi LM now.
How to trigger Mordin's LM with least major missions

If you do just N7 missions after Horizon, then yes, Mordin's Loyaly Mission should unlock before the DCS. I know others have talked about landing on the Normandy Crash site multiple times to forward conversations, so you could try that.
Not sure why you want to unlock Mordin's loyalty mission, though. I would rather unlock Grunt's loyalty mission: you get a free shotgun upgrade for completing it, plus a discount at Fortak's store as long as you talk to him after gaining Grunt's loyalty.

I also think you should do Grunt's LM first for the reason mentioned and also won't you have so much more fun doing Mordin's with your new gun ? Grunt's is all about killing varmin.
You might need to visit Alchera a few times to unlock Grunt's.. i don't remember when he comes up as in this run through i've been visiting Alchera non stop before the DCS and ended up with a whole bunch of people i had to talk to so their order is confused.

I would not bother with Alchera.
I would do these missions:
- Project Firewalker: Rosalie Lost, to unlock the other Project Firewalker missions
- Firewalker: Volcano Station, to unlock Project Firewalker: Prothean Site mission
- Project Firewalker: Prothean Site, for the Biotic damage upgrade (your third if you purchased the upgrade on Illium and scanned the upgrade on Horizon)
- N7: Anomolous Weather Detected (Pylos Nebula > Dirada > Canalus; requires star chart from Illium) for the third Damage Protection upgrade, which unlocks the Hard Shields research project
- Grunt's loyalty mission

Thanks. The reason I asked for Mordin's mission is that that always opens up before Grunt's ( for me ). I don't actually do Mordin's mission right away, it just lets me get to Tuchanka to buy the upgrade.
@Red, yeah, I always do the Geth weather mission to get the 3rd damage protection upgrade before the DCS. I'm doing it different this time because I want the shotgun for as many missions as possible - but I really don't like the limited ammo without the 3rd upgrade. I will probably do Samara RM before DCS because I think I want to use the Scimitar.
So maybe I'll do Samara RM, then Geth Weather, then three other N7.

As a greedy bast... I mean as your financial adviser I have to agree with the former posts mentioning that you'll spend more MONEY than necessary and should do Grunt's mission first...
10000 credits (I think) are usually the sum that make your bathtub filled with credits comfy towards the end, if you miss them you'll get a cold back while sitting in the tub and laughing crazily... I heard
To quote some ME and tell you what I really think: "Shotgun? Nice!" : )
I'm looking forward to it.

I've never had issues with money as I usually plan ahead when choosing squadmates/buying upgrades.
The Biotic/Tech cooldowns are always a given, but why would I buy sniper upgrades when I don't snipe myself? Thane uses SMG's aswell, as do most squadmates so I can make them use them instead. Jack is always good seeing how you use the shotgun yourself, and pistol-wielding squadmates are not to be underestimated.
I've never found health upgrades to be worth the investment early game, especially not for a Sentinel who relies on his/her shields.
My advice is ignoring upgrades you don't use yourself, and bring squadmates who complement the upgrades you do get.

Just for those keeping score at home....
I picked up squadmates in this order
(1) Kasumi, then did LM
(2) Zaeed, no mission, just got him on-board
(3) Mordin
(4) Garrus
(5) Jack
(6) Grunt
Did Horizon
(1) Did Pylos Nebula->Dirada->Canalus { Geth Weather } to get 3rd Damage Protection Upgrade
< this opened Jack's LM for later >
(2) Lorek Lost Operative < opened Mordin's LM for later >
(3) Solveig->Simmara Align Arrays < this Opened Grunt LM >
(4) so, I did Grunt's LM as #4 to get 3rd Shotgun Upgrade, then purchased 4th shotgun upgrade
(5) Then put batteries in the Mech Talava->Taitus Canyon Mining which triggered the DCS. I was at level 15
Thanks for input from everyone.
Edit: Updated after DCS.
