The Ballad of Gay Tony gives me total faith in GTA5. It dropped a lot of the dark tragic themes of GTA4 and returned to the more comical and exaggerated characters, stories and missions from GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas. If you haven't played The Ballad of Gay Tony and want a great GTA experience, I highly recommend it.

Well that trailer wasn't impressive, I'm actually surprised this franchise is still alive. I'll stick with Saint's Row, at least they've got a sense of humour and tons of customization to keep me entertained. GTA literally has nothing left, GTA4 proved that.

Taste is a funny thing.

Imo, GTA IV was one if not the best installment of the series.

That's a pretty bold claim, explain what exactly made it the best of the series?

Gameplay was much improved, cars that handle well, a story that is well told has an excellent protag with some extremly good support charcters amongst other things.

What he said. Additionaly I liked the fact that they tried to do a more "realistic" approach to the whole gangster theme, in contrast to the earlier installments that were more along the lines of the over the top action that Saints Row provides.

But like I said, taste is a funny thing. I don't expect that you'll share my opinion all of sudden, just like I won't back up your statement that GTA has jumped the shark.

The episodes weren't as good IMO, ps2-era GTA's thrashed those two (although I still enjoyed them.)

I see, I guess I just didn't like the realistic approach in it. To me, the early GTA's were the best ones, in particular Vice City. It was all about fun and mayhem:D. Even the top down ones like GTA2 were awesome.

I can't decide which protagonist I like the most.

Treavor seems the most fun and interesting, and I expect him to have a surprising amount of depth to his character for some reason.

Michael is classy, and I like his relationship with his son and the other protagonists. I know he'll make for an interesting character.

Franklin I have the feeling might be the most likable of the three, and I like that he's going to look at Michael as a Mentor. It should be interesting playing as a character that might be a bit inexperianced.

Never played the top-down ones but GTA 4 was more realistic which can definatly be a flaw to some.

I'm with Reezy. Cars handled like they had soap for wheels. Controls in general sucked ass. Can I get a death threat too?

I was only joking and I only said that because he laughed at my opinion.
Maybe read my post and get a sense of humour before you make posts.

I love going 'rampaging' and seeing how long I can live and how many wanted stars I can get before dying. I used to do that for hours.

I did that all the time in Vice City. It's definitely a great way to kill time.

lol
I've tried these kind of rampages in GTA 1, 2, 3, SA, and 4 and hardly could survive more than 15 minutes. Those helicopters and Army Soldiers and Tanks would TEAR YOU APART! =]

Good times in GTA 3. Cheat weapons for pedestrians, cheat rampage mode for everybody. Try to survive in amok-city

I liked that Niko was a morally conflicted character and you had some small degree of agency over whether he would try to better himself or go down a darker path; the tragic endings were a nice touch. On the other hand, while it does have nice bits of social commentary here and there, it's hard to believe the game wants you to consider the consequences of violence or a violent lifestyle when, no matter what decisions Niko makes, you can still jack a car or helicopter and cause city-wide mayhem at will. It doesn't get one to reflect or think deeply like Spec Ops the Line does, for example. Still, despite its flaws, it's my favorite GTA game.

Anyway, this thread is about GTA V. The graphics look gorgeous and if it's a better port (or, better yet, not a port at all) for the PC, I may try it out. If I'm not mistaken, it'll feature three protagonists you can play as?

But I won't buy it right away. I'll see what the reactions from other gamers are like first.

True and true. My assumption was that it would, eventually. GTAs III, VC, SA, and IV were all eventually released to the PC, so my (not at all scientific, I admit) guess is that it will for V. As for purchasing, well, as said, I'll still wait and see, even after it (possibly) comes out for the PC.

I will say this: I have no doubt that the game will have great music and I loved the two songs used in both trailers relesased so far.

Max Payne was good on PC I've heard, so why not?
