For the people that aren't looking at the score and screaming foul, it seems the issue some people have is that the reviewer used his personal preference to color his review of the story, when its just that- preference, and he should've accounted for people not feeling the same way he did.

That's iffy, though. Because sometimes, you can find that reviewer who appreciates the same things that you do and you can use their recommendations as a good gauge. I would actually prefer a reviewer be honest in their review and be clear about their own preferences/biases. That's why the whole scoring thing is iffy.. because on the one hand, you get ones like you mentioned who lean heavily on personal taste vs. ones that will give the score that they think they should based on hype, expectations, or "Well, what are the other reviewers saying?" shtick.

Didn't affect her review of the game at all, because others may not be affected in such a way.

I need to stop reading reviews. I'm worried there's a trap somewhere that will spoil me D:

To be honest, it could be said that a top notch game like GTA V is expected to get high reviews, so a reviewer with the intent of maximizing page clicks would review it less favorably just to spark interest and rage.
Dirty thing, reviews.

I counter, though. Going against the grain for a game getting perfect if not almost perfect scores across the board is... tempting.

Could be the case, but I'm not gonna worry about it. I'm gettin my game in the mail tomorrow and then I'll decide for myself.

This picture is an example of why the gaming community has a bad name. <_<
The comments denegrating Carolyn Petit because of the way she looks are disgusting. However, I agree that she will sometimes inappropriately review a game with a political agenda in mind.

The guy is clear on what he doesn't like, so as long as you actually read his review it's fairly easy to decide whether you think his preferences will coincide with your own. It's only a problem if you're just looking at the number.

That article talks about how reviews are paid. "Coincidentally" The Last Of Us and GTA V got 10s. Lost Planet 3 got a 7, the list said it would get an 8 and BioShock Infinite got a 9.4 although it said it would get a 9, even then I'm starting to wonder, those two were pretty close to what they said they would get.
Even if GTA V is a very good game it is not perfect. It is also very strange that GTA V is also one of the most advertised games in that site.

This. I thought people would've learned that by now.LPPrince wrote...
10/10 usually doesn't equate to "perfect" in review sites. It usually translates to "masterpiece" or "ridiculously great".

I like this review. I just hope he didn't like Kratos in God of War 2 & 3 or he'd be a hypocrite.OdanUrr wrote...

It can be whatever any review site wants it to be, I'm still waiting until individual users review it. It's not like I have a choice anyway, not until it is released for PC.
That said here's this. I hope I don't have to wait six months for them to release it though, that will not be nice.

...Wellp, propably nothing. They just have grown so large now that Jesus aspect is dictated to be there by the hype alone.
I've found Main Characters of GTA series mildly..out of place ever since San Andreas. Here you have games where half of the time you run/drive around blowing hookers and killing gas stations. Missions and free roam time after time end with arcade mayhem with snake tail of cops trailing you. In middle of all this, game makes serious effort to run some sort of a serious character driven drama. Abstract, silent not-guite-there PC from Vice City felt way more at home. In general Vice City tingled pop culture nerve in much more relevant way than just moredately clever satire. It was genuinely cool how completely it takes you to world present in 80's movies. Scarfact most notable of all ofc. AAh good times.
Not dissing GTA V too directly, I've yet to play it. Just sayayan.

For me 10/10 mean it can't get any better than that right now. I usually read quickly a tons of review . SOme of them are just plain horrible ( It seem more like a rant than a critic)( Like WAHWAHWAH I hate the protagonist WAHWAHWAH) and other seem to be done by people who only enjoy these kind of game.. So you make a mix.
hell I hate Geralt in Witcher 2, but If i did a pro review I would put that aside. You don,t do a duke nukem review for instance if you hate this type of humor.
Personally I know I will tremendously enjoy the game. So I would be a bad critic for GTA haters, but a good one for GTA lovers.
But from what I've seen .. it's really just the best open world game right now. Nothing come close.
