I just hold the swim button and pull the stick back (as if trying to raise altitude in a planes) and the character will swim to the surface. On PS3 the swim button is X, so that's A on 360 (unless it's a different scheme).

I wish there was simply a "rise" button or something.

@stonbw1, no worries. GTA is something that you can just dive into without having played the other games. Just prepare for silliness, highly questionable morals, and gratuitous violence.

I'm
still waiting for my copy to arrive. Past experience dictates I'll have
to wait.. oh, 6 more hours for UPS to reach my block. So, for those of
you playing, how's it going?

Edit: My copy just arrived. Woot.

Haha ! Yes, do expect the worst and have fun ! I don't know how many times I laughed. <3

The game is awesome ! Sooo much to do ! 8 hours non-stop and I feel like I have done almost nothing. =)
I let my sister with the controller playing the game and laughing in front of the TV, with sadness. I should go. :(

God. I love how our three characters were introduced, especially Trevor, this crazy man !

Exactly. It's rather noobish to not put that together within a few minutes of swimming underwater

Being a PC gamer has made me Jaded O think. The game is Fun, but that aliasing is destroying my eyes. The main city hub seem to be a little smaller (Plain view) than Liberty city, but the car are so much faster though. Much easier to navigate ( Liberty city felt bigger because of the bridge)

at trevor right now. Taking my sweeeet time with everything. I can't believe he killed that someone lol.. The country side seem to be the most fun.

Just got a go on my friends copy it is really good. I spent an hour just messing around not doing any missions or side activities but did anyone else have frame rate problems? because at a lot of points it jittered a bit for me.

I had complete and utter Blimp fail. Protip: it explodes when it hits things. It took only about one minute to cycle through the radio stations and find some amazing songs that I had and hadn't heard. The first track I heard was of Johnny Cash which bodes well. I keep waiting for some random guy to call me to see if we wanted to go bowling.

Really? And here I thought that after RDR and Max Payne Rockstar would have fixed AA issues on their console games. That was pretty much my main issue with GTA 4. Oh well...

I've been watching the playthroughs. Looks like the most refined version of the GTA series, and the inclusion of multiple characters(both in terms of gameplay and storyline) feels like the trait that'll define the series years after its release. The transitions between cinematic and gameplay feel much better. The writing isn't too different from GTA4.

Saw one particular side quest that cleverly brought in some of the weirdness from SR3 but still staying within the "reality" of GTA5. Not sure I'd give it a 10/10, but it's still impressive.

To be fair, its kinda hard to swim underwater for a few minutes without drowning. That and I haven't actually flown anything in GTA V yet. Its been ages since I've even played IV so hell if I remember the controls. :P

I agree that the multiple characters is nice. I'm taking my dear sweet time and still haven't met Trevor, but it's nice to switch between Michael and Franklin. I also love the seamless transition into cutscenes.. would love to see that in more games! It feels very natural. The Strangers and Freaks missions are hilarious.

Can you interact with one of the protagonists if you come across them in the game? I was speeding through with Michael and swear I heard Franklin's voice randomly say "Hey, Michael! Nice to see you." or something.

Also, do they actually do anything when you're not playing them? I notice that I usually get a mini-scene of them leaving a store, napping in the car, in the middle of driving, etc. and a change of clothes if some time has passed.

Ah.. what can you do? I feel like it's hard to get them together in the same spot without the hang out call.

Speaking of which, I had fun times with them last night. Went out to a few bars, come out, and voila security van! Stole the money and drove away with the drunk effects while the cops were chasing us. It was an appropriate hang out.

It seems you can find CJ house in the game! The neighborhood looks pretty much the same. There are also other easter eggs such as an frozen alien, big foot and a Saint Row parody.

I saw Grove Street. It's actually in worse shape than before after 20 years.

Okay, I couldn't resist. Got the game last night and have played a few hours. This is the first GTA game I've ever played, so some of my first impressions: I can see the similarities with RDR in the cutscenes and gunplay. The environment is gorgeous and alive, but not interactive like in ME, Fallout etc.. (i.e.- you can talk to every NPC). Lastly, driving is impossible for me at this point. I can't make it two blocks without running into someone/something, which really hurts me since a few of the first missions are contingent on good driving. It's a fun type of frustrating.

Can anyone take photo's? I keep getting the "alert, social club services unavailable".

I can't take photo's so that means I can't do missions that require a photo.

.

And there's my problem. While I was enjoying what I was watching with Franklin(a great hoomage to Craig Jones) the mission with Michael and on have just been disapointing me. Don't get me wrong, Rockstar put alot of love in the game. The world is massive, it feels alive, there's alot of stuff to do, the three protag idea is cool(though I have my own issues with it as Rockstar could have made at least one female protag to really bring something fresh instead of three males but that's a whole new can of worms) It's just, Franklin is awesome, but Michael is just so bland and I see GTAIV poking it's head out and I did not enjoy GTAIV at all. I'll keep watching the LPs and see how I feel about Trevor, though I will most likely like him since what I have heard of him, but Michael? A big meh plus the two missions that first had him felt like Rockstar was playing SR3 and said screw it(this is not praise at all to Rockstar or SR3 either)

So far it is better then GTAIV, but to me that's not a feat. Though I do applaud Rockstar for the amount of detail and love they put into the game, something Vol could learn(I loved SR4 but the lack of detail and love put into Steelport is one of my biggest issues and the gameworld is where GTAV just stomps over SR4 and dances)

Question: I did my first heist and hired a crappy goon to lower his share. He crashed his bike. Is it possible to pick up his share? I briefly tried to but then decided to just keep going.
