I'm playing through Mass Effect again and it occurs to me that we still don't know who Armistan Banes is. There are some omnious references in Mass Effect but he is never referenced in Mass Effect 2. Will we find out in Mass Effect 3? How about a maybe?

According to Captain Anderson and Admiral Kohaku, Banes was found dead in a derelict ship.

Is probably someone who has contacts or was with Cerberus, he escaped, was killed, Kahoku's men found his body, they were lured to a trap, Kahoku finds out that Cerberus killed his men, he is kidnaped, Cerberus kills him, Shepard founds him and so on.
He may have been working with some rare technology (in that case, I hope that he's going to have a cameo or something in ME3), or he may be just an intro to Cerberus.

May not be the case, after all. At least, going by Mac Walters' comment in a recent OXM interview:liesandpropaganda wrote...
Someone forgotten by ME writers. RIP
OXM: "Any you want to share?"
Mac Walters: "Well, I think... well, actually I won't because... well, I'll keep it generic -- there was an ME2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first ME that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in ME3, so I'm happy. But I can't say what it is. That's the nice thing about trilogies -- sometimes you get a second chance."
