Most people seem to agree that you should bring Varric, Anders and your Sibling to Legacy. Is there any consensus on who it is best to bring for Mark of the Assassin (at least for a first playthrough).
Who should I bring on MOTA?

Aveline and Isabela get extra quests. Varric and Merrill get pretty hilarious dialogue.

Thanks fo- ... Wait, why would Aveline even want to go? Isn't it about stealing something from somewhere?

Everyone except Merrill has extra quests, actually. But I love Merrill anyway, so...

I'd say, take as much ranged characters as possible for gameplay reasons. A mage never hurts.
To clarify the companion specific quests: Everyone (except for Merrill, strangly) gets a little collection quest (mostly stuff that can be considered that character's hobby, nothing really meaningful). The reward is a nice, but not great piece of jewelry for them. Isablea and Aveline additionaly get bigger quests (relativly), with pretty interesting dialogue.
