Well I lost Merrill to the pride demon like I expected.  Then I thought I'd lose Varric to the Desire Demon and It would be Me and Aveline against Varric- piece of cake right but no It's Aveline against DW hawke and Varric which turned out to be a good fight.

It turns out that Aveline has this interesting Shield Bash power which wipes out  my Hawkes hit points.  This is on Hard by the way.  So I ended up having to kite a couple of times when my hit points got low.  That was quite fun actually.   Anyway somehow dog and Varric finished her off for me ha ha.

Anyone else have stories about the Fade portion?

Hit her with Winters Grasp, Petrify, Assassinate etc she usually goes down like a sack of spuds.

Had the same problem once. Aveline totally kicked my ass in the first try. And afterwards we argued about mages. I don't think i will take her to the fade again.

I don't have Assassinate yet. Trying twin fangs didn't turn out too good.

I agree with you OP, it was a good fight.

Much better than Fenris, that little #$%* kept dropping my entire squad with just one 'tornado' swing during my first attempt with him. Posted Image

Yeah the first time i brought Fenris he KO'd Anders and nearly killed me all in one hit before I could even respond. It made beating him quite an epic feat. I tried bringing him again to see if he'd do that again if given any opportunity, and he did.

The pride demon will offer Fenris the power to challenge the magisters as an equal.

Isabela instantly killing Hawke, Merrill and Anders with all hands on deck in my current playthrough was pretty amusing. Damn that dlc gear.

Aveline, Varric and Merrill were jokes to kill.
Fenris made me cry multiple times, and Isabela is just... Urgh....

My stories all begin with: "First I removed all the good equipment from my companions."

This evening I took Aveline into the Fade; her temptation and aftermath dialogue still hurt because it feels so real and inevitable.  How many people could resist an opportunity to save a passed love one?

I got Scythed to death by Fenris once, but only because I wasn't paying attention. Squaddies hit crazy hard but you hit just as hard on them, since their health pools don't change, and the tactics engine is a bit slow to kick in so you can always get the first hit; if you're a rogue all you need is to land one assassinate/vendetta/twin fangs, if you're a warrior all you need is one assault/mighty blow, if you're a mage - well, ok, mages have it rough. You'll need a stun, knockback or paralysis to hold them still, and that can be difficult on Aveline if you've bought her Indom talent.

Or you can turn off all their tactics and set them to "passive" (that worked pre-1.03 anyway, I haven't tried it in quite a while), which I find a little faster than stripping their gear.

Edit: Oh, wait, there was also that one time when Merrill slaughtered me in half a second. I still have no idea how or what she even did. It was just "I cannot put you above my people" and then bam, resume most recent save. It's always the cute ones.

The thing is that if you've played the game once you know these fights are coming. If you have an ability on Hawke (or a still loyal companion) that will immobilise or cause a knock back you can use that straight up (pause at the start of combat if needed) before the relevant companion has time to act. Should be an easy fight from there.

True.
For me. since I was playing a DW rogue with my Fenris 'issue', I had to time using the evade ability.

The reason I was getting my ass handed to me was, almost instantaneously, right after the cutscene ended, is when he swung.

Self:Any->Wait works well.

Best way I've found to take down your squad mates is to disable their tactics, by doing so they have no access to the AI commands you gave them. Remove their weapons/shields before going into combat. Once done they will be easy to take out.

Huh, taking down all the companions in the Fade was ridiculously easy for me, no need to gimp them in any way (and that was on nightmare).

I just take mass murdering Anders into the Fade, its still easy to best the demons with just Hawke and Vengeance(Anders) and you don't have to worry about spanking your other companions.

Zjar I suck at nightmare or even hardcore. So when I played on the higher difficulty I got hammered hard and fast. So I had to reload and gimp them. *shrugs* better that way instead of being taken out and having to restart all the time.

But... Sunnie spanking Isabela is so fun!

But then you can't take torpor's deal without anders making a fuss!

Uh..but it wouldn't affect me because I'm totally not evil enough to take that deal. I mean, 6 attribute points (equivalent of two extra levels without any enemy scaling) or a warm fuzzy feeling and a worthless book.. warm fuzzy feeling all the way

I tell Torpor to get bent and then just summon the rune with the console. /uploads_user/1070000/1069890/80576.gif

Cause purple is cool! *nodnod*

As for the torpor thing. I usually tell him to get bent because I'm not usually evil and giving someone to the demons is not something I tend to do.
