I apologise if this has been discussed before, but something that has been on my mind recently is the location of the rest of the team at the time of the first Collector attack.

I know some of them (as they are shown), but was hoping people who know more (if it has been confirmed) would be able to fill in the rest.

If you romance Liara she is still on board, but is she if you don't?
If you romance Ashley she is still on board, but is she if you don't? (Assumng they are the VS of course)
If you romance Kaidan he is still on board but is he if you don't? (Assumng they are the VS of course)
If you romance nobody then Liara is on board for Femshep (from the comic, anyway, not sure about ME1 import or from male shep)

Has Tali already gone back to the migrant fleet or is she still there?
Has Wrex already left?
Has Garrus stayed around, or has he gone back to C-Sec?

I recall Joker saying that the team fell apart after Shepard was spaced, but he seemed to be referring to the ships crew (Chakwas etc.) as opposed to the above.

So is there any official word on this?

When you're meeting with Wrex on Tuchanka it becomes apparent that he was not present on the Normandy SR-1 during the attack. I do not remember the exact quote, though. Also, my FemShep didn't romance anyone is ME1 and VS (Ashley) was the one shown in the prologue.

I believe there's no official stance regarding other squaddies' presence; I have not heard about one, at least.

P.S. I think it's safe to assume that VS was on board even if it was Liara who came running to your Shep: Kaidan was originally transferred to Normandy SR-1 by Alliance and I don't think he was transferred to some other ship after ME1 events. As for Ashley, I believe she also was transferred after joining Shepard on Eden Prime even if was just for the sake of keeping track of her and keeping things official.

Depending on your conversations with Garrus, he would have returned to the Citadel to either rejoin C-Sec, or try out for the Spectres.

Tali was always going to return to the Migrant Fleet with the Geth data you procured in the Armstrong Nebula, as it was her Pilgrimage gift to her people.

VS + Liara are the only ones that were there with any degree of certainty. As above, Wrex was certainly not there.

Who knows if Garrus and Tali had gotten off the boat already.

I just did a male no romance import, it was the VS onboard, in this case Ash.

It's implied later that Garrus was onboard at the time:

"I trained to become a Spectre after the Normandy was destroyed, but it didn't work out. Too much politicking at the Citadel. Nobody was willing to take risks."

Or:

"I went back to C-Sec after the Normandy was destroyed, but with all the rebuilding at the Citadel, there was too much chaos for me to really help."

The default is the opposite-sex crewmember, provided they're alive,  unless you're on the PS3 or have Genesis installed, in which case Liara is the default because the comic comes after that and allows you to choose the survivor.

If you ask Jacob about what happened to the crew when the Normandy was destroyed he mentions Tali (his words are "the Quarian")  I'll try and get a direct quote.
