If you had to turn Shepard into an immortal, how would you do it?

Accepting even the most outlandish answers.

Separating his soul from his body and put it into a bluebox shielded by superdense Neutronium.
At least his soul (or whatever you call it) will live, even if Shepard's body dies.

Then again - meaning of life isn't complete without death. So Shepard's life would become meaningless if he can't die.

Shepard the legend- that's easy, my "awesome ending" for the series already has this as its centerpoint. Shepard is presumed dead but he continues flying around in the Normandy. He adopts a modified version of the Death Mask and becomes a faceless armored warrior. The galaxy isn't sure whether it's the original Shepard or something else but eventually they accept him as the Shepard associating not his face, but his helmet as his visage. He becomes a symbol. At this point you have options once the biological man dies. Either a successor adopts the armor and continues the fight. Or a synthetic programmed with a combination of Shepard greybox, VI geth programs (provided they are willing to donate some specific to this cause) and possibly a true AI component continues in the armor same as the series of successors. I tend to call this the Space Batman.

Shepard the man (a.ka. literally making him immortal) is a bit trickier. You can up the cybernetics in his body, genetically modify his cells to last longer, heal faster etc. But assuming you can't do that indefinitely/ very well given his age already tech is still the best option. So something like the above synthetic Space Batman.  Although philosophical questions of whether that's still Shepard, whether he'd want that etc are still present.

An interesting scenario: I got this off a Star Wars book I read long ago, can't remember what it's called. It takes place before the whole New Jedi Order stuff. Basically a character has died but advanced cybernetics have been able to imprint his memories and some of his personality on a droid. His love interests wants to believe he's truly back. However he's not. The cyborg is only a simulation, a poor copy of what the man. Ultimately this point is driven home to her when they're under attack and the cyborg-droid (can't remember what he was exactly) is fitted with a restraining bolt. She begs him to help her but he can't because of the bolt. I'm describing it poorly but it's a powerful realization for the woman that the man she loves is really gone and the thing before her is only a poor approximation. I can't remember how it ends. Still, heavy stuff. Could make for a good story post ME3.

Extracting dying skin cells by attaching nanomagnets to them, adding new and fresh blood of the same blood type, and filling his body with nanobots to supplement white blood cells.

Living over 1000 years is already possible with todays technology, it's simply just to expensive to do thought.

There was a good man who died because of cancer. He had a lot of money and still died - so either the technology does not exist yet or it's far more expensive than any of us can imagine.

You better should ask Steve Jobs. That man had enough money for this kind of technology ... and died.

Maybe he was waiting until he could make said technology shiny and white and operated by a click wheel.

Ok I'll stop.

lol I'm keeping mine up. The timing may not be the best but the comedic value is high enough.

Anyway what'd you think of my "legend" ideas? Not the first time I've posted them but people always seem to get sidetracked with other posts and I've never actually had anyone comment on them.

The name and mask of 'Shepard' becoming a symbolic title passed down from one generation to the next is intriguing indeed. In a way, his name has already transcended that of a man and become a bloodied and gritty legend in its own right.

I see you're point with making Shepard the human being into a cybernetic immortal, it just inflames the question of just how much of him is still from the original. Shepard's crediblity was questioned after his return, hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he questioned it himself.

Anyway. I like them.

I can't imagine anyone actually dying on Casual... i've only ever completed ME1 & 2 on Hard -> Hardcore -> Insane.

It would just be freakishly easy you could probably melee the Collosi on Haelstrom...

But too the OP... I would be interesting but i doubt they'll do it.

It's not that easy and you can still die if you do something stupid. Enemies just have less protection and the game's more forgiving if you make mistakes or aren't always a crack shot.

Truth be told, Shepard is already immortal in legacy. Just look at the influence you can have on Conrad Verner (more helpful if you go look up the Paragon version of your meeting with him in ME2) and even a senile old Hanar would recognise the human who defeated the Geth.

Use the Dragon balls
Steal a lazarus pit and use it forever
Become a cyborg (oh wait, already happened)
Become a vampire (Morinth, get over here!)

Or;
Just cry about it because it will never happen and because living forever is boring!

Dread Pirate Roberts...

Anyway, I think the best way to make Shepard immortal is to just zap him with dark energy until his body is turned into pure energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, so "Shepard" would live forever. Sort of.

At least it's cooler than becoming decomposed carbon-based molecules that are absorbed by plant life and added to the local food chain... at the bottom of it. Energy is way cooler than natural selection...

Many scions of Shepard spread throughout the human species via cloning, surrogate mothers, and the good 'old fashioned' method.

If they can revive a body that has been dead for a year(dry, deader than dead corpse) I think they can make a person live, maybe not forever but still quite a long long time. Maybe even millenia.
