Bioware LA is the studio that does Dragon Age Legends, or whatever the facebook game is called. They'll probably be doing the rumored ME facebook game and such. I think the new game is probably from Montreal.

It's more attractive ^^

I'm really tired of Fantasy RPG's.  I'd prefer a Science Fiction setting.

I kinda agree.  Bioware makes excellent story and companion based RPGs.  Imagine them doing a noir title, or a horror title, or a western, with that same kind of Bioware style?  When I heard they were making a new property, these were the excited thoughts going through my head.

The image doesn't say much, but it does kind of rule out other things.  A great Bioware Western or Horror title woiuld be awesome.  I don't know why they don't go that route....

I'd love to see them do a survival horror game.  Something in the Cthulu mythos, or a Silent Hill-esque game.  Just no zombies.  Been done to death of late.

That's BioWare San Fransisco, formerly EA2D.

Personally, I would have loved Bioware doing an Urban Fantasy game. Something like "Neil Gaiman meets Grand Theft Auto".

I made the same points:

1. There is a huge focus on graphics resulting in larger costs
2. So as to get suffiecinet returns, developers DO NOT take risks and play it safe with a tries & tested formula

Graphic sells, they are a very important part of the "tried and tested" formula. It's not because of graphics that they do not try something new. They do not try something new because focus group and market research show that most casual gamers find some features to be inconvenient and like pretty graphics over gameplay substance. So, it's impossible to find a AAA without health regen because players find annoying to actually think at what they are doing. Btw, I play on PC but I own a PS3 too and most debates I see in the "consolle war" concerns graphics, so please do not blame only us: most of us only ask for better controll, UI and polish when a game is ported.

American Gods: The Game. It would rock! I am seriously tired of medieval fantasy which seems stuck in the Tolien verse and afraid of trying something new. Can you imagine an Arabian Knights inspired fantasy title? There is a lot of lore and actual mythology they could use. Urban Fnatasy would even be better. Hellboy: The RPG. Or even a fusion of sorts, http://tvtropes.org/...n/SamuraiCowboy Red Steel the game did this.
Or how about Jade Empire in the Wild West ---> http://tvtropes.org/...Main/CattlePunk

But nope. We are getting a post apolcalyptic brown RPG racer set in the desert. Why is it always post-apocalyptic? Why not Utopian like John Carter of Mars. Tell me you wouldn't want to play a game where you traverse the desert in a ginat robot scorpion going towards a massive crystal city.

Where's the creativity?
And I agree with you when you said about survival horror game. I love too. :)

Yep! I would love it and it would be something really fresh and new! Beside, Neil Gaiman is my master :D.

Tired too! But mostly I'm tired of tolkienesque high fantasy setting. I was very excited with the DA franchise with all the mentions of George Martin and Dark Fantasy, but at the end it just prooved to be fake talk. While Thedas has all the elements to be an interesting, dark and fresh setting, it resulted in a very familiar experience during DA:O. With DA2 they tried something different but it all felt akward and disconnected... I don't know.

But honestly, I fear that game devs kept pushing high fantasy and post apocalyptic settings because that's what most people want. Only a handfull of us really likes darker, more mature and different fantasy setting. Gamers don't want to be tested or disturbed by games.

All interesting setting and you forgot Steampunk! My chart of "fresh" setting looks like that:

1) Urban Fantasy setting (as I said, American Gods meets GTA).
2) A zombie survival RPG (fortunately, an indie company called double bear is realizing that game).
3) An RPG with much focus on politics and personal interactions settled during the end of the Roman Republic.

Well, we still don't know if the new Bioware game is really a Borderland ripoff, even if the screenshot seems to imply that. Let's give it a chance...

If they're going to do fantasy again, I'd like to see either Urban Fantasy, or Cyberpunk Fantasy.  I mean, how much cooler would a game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution be if you could throw around fireballs, or if the evil head of the corporation was a five thousand year old dragon?  (Yes, I did play a bit of Shadowrun back in the day, why do you ask?)

So, mostly this picture just has me confused. I have no idea what Bioware is planning here. I assume it is some kind of RPG, given that Bioware is the RPG arm of EA, but who knows what form it will take? Guess I'll just have to wait for more information to come to light.

I'll drop our guess in the discussion. ^^

Reaction on other sites could be described hostile, so i want to make clear that we are not saying it is, but rather we hope/guess/think.

We (german command & conquer fansite www.uf-news.de ) think it is command and conquer generals 2. In depth explanations on our site in german. I'll give cliffnotes in english why we do think so:

- latest information we have is that a c&c will be announced later this year (stated feb 2011)
- not many possible events are left for such an announcement
- the artwork could easily show a generals faction, the gla. Vehicles could either be buggies or technicals. Colorcoding does match the gla. (generals technical concept art year 2003) Explosionstyle does match the way gla units died in generals (flipping high sending the driver flying).
- update on the bioware/ea site says bioware is now also responsible for strategy games
- bioware has a la studio
- victory games (which are in charge of c&c) are in la
- victory games is a new studio
- c&c would be a new franchise for bioware

Anyway, does anyone around here do own the december gameinformer issue and can check whether there are more artworks about the game, or if the vga host meant the january issue having more artworks, comeing out right after the vgas?

Please a fantasy rpg totally new :)

and NO MORE humans, elves, dwarves and orcs.

Use more imagination to create, please.

It is not asking so much.

You know what? Let's have a game with a comedic/parody tone for once.
A parody of fantasy RPG's featuring bizzare creatures and spells.

Maybe Bioware would make something that is a combination of Rage and Borderlands >_> Just basing it on what I get out of that teaser.

I wouldn't have a problem with that but I was hoping for something even more different (as in something Bioware hasn't done before with their games or something that isn't already very common). I'd like to see more sci-fi RPGs but at the same time I think it would be cool to have more gothic/horror RPGs or maybe even some sort of Pirate RPG or more Steampunk RPGs. Cyber Punk RPGs might be cool too. A dystopian setting with RPG elements.... just throwing some ideas out there XD

So Magicka or Grotesque Tactics?

Most opinions I've seen (regarding the teaser) are very similar to this.

When I saw it, I thought of a Shattered Steel reboot.

Shattered Steel and MDK2 are the only BioWare games I've never played XD But I can appreciate a company going back to an old game of theirs that is kind of forgotten though.
Although they did say it's a new franchise.... so maybe it would be a successor to Shattered Steel rather than a reboot/long due sequel?

If it were a reboot, I believe it would count as a new franchise. Sort of like the Nolan Batman movies vs the Burton/Schumacher Batman movies. True, these both fall under the giant Batman franchise, but they're also separate franchises in their own right.

It really depends on what BioWare means by "new" franchise, I think.

But I agree that a successor to Shattered Steel (which I haven't played either) is more likely than a reboot or a sequel. However, another part of me wonders if this teaser is some sort of misdirect.

There's a new teaser, this time in video form.
