I'm betting on it being first person- ME already is their Gears with dialogue third person shooter, so they'll try to tap into Call of Duty and make a FPS with dialogue choices and a big multiplayer component.
Yep. You could be right and based upon the recent trends we've seen from them, that's probably exactly what they're going to do; wedge themselves into the FPS genre.
Personally I think they should, along with Epic, push the boundaries of TPS mechanics. In my view, it's the only way to compete with the gigantor that COD has become. BF3 will hold their own against them, and I think that's where EA should invest in the destruction of the monolith. If they can continuing pushing the edge of the envelope of TPS gameplay (smoothing cover-based mechanics and movement [jump, sprint, vault, roll, sliding in/out of cover, etc]), I think they stand a chance at being competitive in the shooter market place with just good gameplay, but, even then they can offer a real alternative (assuming they aren't afraid to integrate layers of serious RPG elements in a quality manner-- but, I know that appears to be asking alot these days).
I would like to see them tackle something like a modern military TPS with heavy role playing; or maybe an alternative history...oh, I don't know...the Cold War breaking out into all out global conflict with a central character impacting events over years, and deals with a world destroying itself; or even a post apoalyptic game where the central character actually plays a leading role in rebuilding society over several games; or even a political intrigue story done in the spirit of Orwell or Huxley, where there is the building of a revolution against something like the central authority of an overwhelming police state.
But, I personally would like them to stay in third person and continue to refine that style of gameplay. While I like the first person perspective, I've grown to like actually seeing "myself" interact in the game, and customizing my characters and not just my weapons.
EDIT: An open world would be an interesting thing to see them do, but I'll forego that for a quality story and associated RPG elements.
