You need to be careful in there. There are some nasty traps, so it's a good idea to have Imoen go ahead to disarm them. She will need protecting - probably by your PC if he has the best AC. Normally I would have the tank go a few steps ahead, then let the thief catch up to him while detecting traps. Proceed like that, but you have to be cautious as trap detection only takes place once a round, so if you move quickly you'll trigger the trap before detecting.

Apart from the kobolds firing fire arrows watch out for the mage - lightning bolt is the most dangerous spell he has - and the ogre mage near him. Those 2 have the only treasure that's likely to be worth much.

No, she can't. When dualing to another class at level x (level 6 if you dual Imoen now), the abilities of the first class will remain inactive untill the second class is at level x+1 (level 7 Mage for Imoen if you dualed her at level 6 Thief, which will take another 60.000 xp). With Dynaheir and Edwin you already have 2 mages, which is more than enough (I myself usually only have 1 full mage and one or two half-time mages, either a multiclass fighter-mage or Imoen dualed at level 5). If you dual Imoen you will be without a thief. You could sacrifice one of the mages or dump Minsc to make room for another thief to step into that role, if you really want to dual Imoen.

*slight spoiler*
You will find thieves you can take in your party in Baldur's Gate (tough none will be housed in the Thieves Guild). They can take the place of Imoen in the thieving role while she advances through her first 6 mage levels.

My advice however, is your party is just fine without Imoen dualing. She can be a very efficient thief if you keep her single-class (maybe not the highest total score of points in thieving skills in the entire game, but the user-friendly one, as her starting skills are well-placed and you have the ability to choose all your points from level 1, a luxury other thieves in the game don't offer you - unless you modded the npc-skills).

*another spoiler*
With Yeslick as your cleric, you are a bit low on divine spells, as he is a half-time cleric (or did you mod him into full cleric?). You can find a megalomanic character in the city of Baldur's Gate, who's part cleric part thief and thereby a good choice if you do want to dual Imoen.

Viconia is probably your best bet. You might want to review information about the NPCs available - lots of sites provide this, e.g. http://playithardcor...e:_NPC_Rundown.

Nothing wrong with Minsc, though the best tank in the game is probably Kagain if you equip him with bracers of dexterity.

Well done for surviving it and yes, in vanilla that mage quite often kills himself (though he can easily kill you at the same time with that lightning).

Hint on traps in dungeons: make your thief invisible, turn off AI (so she/he doesn't auto-attack enemies) and send her in to explore the dungeon on her own. Invisible thiefs can still detect traps and disarm them without breaking invisibility. Opening locked chests or doors will breal the invisibility, though.

What's more that mage is not unique. There are some that you can virtually guarantee will kill themselves if you position yourself so that when the bolt comes at you, it rebounds on them.  Image IPB
