Prettier than that Hawke. Regardless, why do elves even need to be pretty?

Marvin_Arnold---Apparently you did not look at the elves close enough. Again you back my theory that most of the complaints come from texturing and not the actually facial structure. Here again is that same girl whom you claim looks like a DAO elf from a different angle, and this time with a couple of elves from the main game (and not the obligatory fugly examples that most detractors use)...and the funny thing on this is...I am not a huge fan of DA2! I actually prefer a mix of the two styles to be quite honest. Here's the sh..

You can have any theory you like; it's the facial structure. You're just cherry picking individual models plus angles.
Those who like to argue that the elf redesign is fine, often claim Merril is pretty. Do you perhaps think so?
How pretty is she here?

End of discussion. Bye.

Regardless, why do elves even need to be pretty?

In a universal sense they don't, of course. Look at Morrowind and Skyrim for instance, nobody is complaining about the looks of elves there. But they do look great and believable, DA2 elves don't. DA2 elves aren't biologically believable to me. They stand out as simply wrong. Inept design. Look at those ears for instance. I'm pretty sure that pointed ears turned backwards like that is an acoustically dysfunctional adaption

But in our specific context, DA elves do need to be pretty. Because of DA:O.
(and there is also the immediate context of DA2-fans having expressed the opinion that DA2 elves are pretty, which I strongly disagree with).
Finally, my first (and thus to me the most important) Warden was an elf. And I'm damned if I'm going to accept that she looks like DA2 elves the next time I see her.

I think the high elves from Warhammer look awesome. Tall, slim and with long faces with strong features, and long blonde hair. At east that is what the old elves from Arlathan should have looked like.

The elves from Skyrim look more like orcs. They look horrible IMHO.

I perfectly agree but the term i use to describe the dragon age 2 style is "clownish" its a mix of styled that don't work at all on my opinion

You should ask that the writers. According to the lore they are. Now we only need to get to see what we read and heard about. Posted Image

This is obviously just personal preference, but i wouldn't say that character really demonstrates "the new design actually has potential to look really good". It isn't outright malformed, but that's a faint praise.

When I first saw Merril in a preview clip before release, I cringed. And she is one of the better looking ones. I do not like the design, specifically the nose and ridiculously thin bodies.

Are they the worst looking elves in any fantasy product ever? No. Hary Potters 'House elves' are much uglier. however, in the DA universe, as someone said above, elves are supposed to be attractive to humans. The brothel is full of them.

Part of being unique is rooted in the desire to better make Dragon Age 2 stand out from other fantasy stories, both in story and appearance.

Anyone want to make bets on how dwarves and dragons will look like in DA3, then? Swords and armour? Castles and towns?

Making elves look like cat people isn't exactly a unique approach either, and the grey skin of the Dalish doesn't help. For that matter, what's the background on this? Is that supposed to be the new natural skin colour or is it merely dust or part of their tribal colours? It doesn't seem to extend to all of them, at least; the skin of Merrill and Tallis is much lighter, humanlike.

That said, this MotA example posted on page 1 doesn't look so bad (from this angle - still haven't played that DLC myself yet), even with this skin colour. This is something I could get used to. I wonder if Bioware will at least continue to "refine" their redesign a little and hopefully meet a happy medium somewhere.

Oh, and thanks for the mod link. ^_^

D.Kain, unfortunately that Warden is distorted. (as with all characters who stand close to the frame edge)

Hey, I just stumbled upon this picture: Instead of Barbra Streisand, have a look at fashion model/Almodovar actress Rossy de Palma:

sorry, image is HUGE, so I linked

Rossy de Palma cameo in DA2: (on the RIGHT, of course, sorry, couldn't find any small picture of Nyssa...)

(Nyssa's appearance was what got me running for the Normal Noses mod...)

You know, like someone in Antarctida, because donkeys are that specific area creeatures, they need the cold, or they over heat and die.

I don't mind the new elves that much, many are well done, some are fugly. Let's get the real issue here, why do 90% of the male Humans have Alistair hair?

At first I was like well what do u expect being enslaved but then I was like why the heck would elves be enslaved in the first place their taller more agile more numerous they even held the old gods if they were near immortal then why would they be so ugly shouldn't they be more atractive then humans if I was bioware I would not only use Tolkien as inspiration but I'd also use hylians elder scrolls mer idk
