Such a great time to live in if you're a corporate exec in gaming. I bet they're high fiving eachothers at the moment and throwing wads of money at eachother while gigling like little girls.

Okay, I'm worried now. I have this speeding to me from TFAW - has anyone received one that DOESN'T have a paint job that looks like it's been done by a kid???

I've also already emailed Dark Horse to see if they're going to do anything about the paint quality issues.

Mine doesn't look nearly as bad as the pictured ones.  It has only one or two painting errors.  Lines are striaght, and curves are sharp.

And as most others have noted, the model itself looks great, the paint is all that people are mostly having troubles with (though one person posted here that their's were shipped broken in half).

I just wanted to add that I also got mine today and the paint job isn't nearly as bad as in those pics, but it is indeed a bit sloppy at parts. I'm happy with it but I can see why some aren't.

My alliance SR-2 had a few painting errors...I think I counted 2, but for the most part it was very neat, not nearly as bad as some of these pictured. Its a mixed bag of painting quality.

got mine today too. It's not bad, but upon closer inspection you start to notice the rushed paint job. For the price, I'd have been happier with a larger model kit that i put together and paint myself with decals and paint schemes for both variants. Maybe EA/Bioware can license something to Revell.

Wow, would it really be that hard for them to do a half-decent paint job?

My SR2 model arrived today from TFAW. The paint job is decent considering the price of the ship and the material it is made of. I am quite pleased with the product. I would expect an immaculate paint job from something higher priced, not for the under bargain price I paid with shipping.

The paint job on mine is uneven in parts, and some look rushed. It's not bad overall, but there are definitely noticable flaws on it, and ones you don't even have to look hard to find. It looks more like a fan paint than a professional job.

The black markings are not filled in properly, and the "Normandy" demarcation is a little crooked and there's a lot of areas where the paint is either thin or went "outside the lines". Definitely not a professional job. I don't hate it, but I am disappointed in it. I'd give it about a 7/10. The model itself is amazing, but the paint has too many flaws.

Details look nice. Paint job is pretty bad. I thought those pics were blurry jpg's at first.

LQ models, badly drawn comics, Microsoft leaking stuff. I feel bad for Bioware. They just can't seem to get any of their third party partners to do anything right. I wish they could stick to doing everything themselves.

That pretty much sums it up. I don't think I'd rate it that high though. Maybe a 6. I don't entirely hate it - the underlying model is pretty cool - but the paint job is glaringly awful.

Maybe I'm being too generous. I don't know. I guess for $35 I expected more. A 6/10 would be more accurate. The more I look at the more I just WANT to love it -- I really do. But I find that I can't. I like it, but... it's just flawed, not as good as it could be. I feel like I've had to say that a lot about Bioware products of late.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much for the costs.

They should have gone with Hot Wheels... Their Star Trek ships were fantastic - lots of detail, and perfect paint and detail applications. Even some of the Japanese companies like Konami or F-toys would have been better.

For those who say it's good for the price and size, look at this version of the USS Defiant from F-toys. Oh, and it's only 7cm (less than 3 inches) long.

Not to bump something that's slipped into the forum nether somewhat, but I received mine today.

It looks like it was painted by a monkey, or perhaps hired out to a pre-school art class. I'm frustratingly tempted just to go over parts of it myself manually, because good grief. This obviously wasn't something manufactured with any great care and precision.

I wish it had arrived physically broken, so I could have a justification for being refunded.

Well, mine arrived yesterday. It was in one piece, but not for long; since I wasn't at home when I first opened it to inspect it, I decided to put it back into it's packaging. That, ironically, is what caused damage; even a small amount of force accidentally applied to the wing snaps it off immediately. I can see why people are getting theirs with the wings broken off - I'd be willing to bet it happened during the packaging process, as the resin compound is just too fragile for this shape. In addition to this, I think they actually used the molds for something else to create the packaging foam - it is not a good shape to store this model in, and makes it very easy to accidentally damage it when packing. I was able to superglue the wing back on, however - and it worked great, can't even see the seam.
The paint job looks ok from about a meter or so of distance, but honestly it was such a shoddy job, whoever was responsible needs to get fired. None of the painted on detail looks good - it does really look like they had some untalented kid with a brush painting this, rather than a professional with masks and an airbrush. The upper side of the ship can sort of pass if you look at it from at least an arm's length worth of distance, on mine the ventral side of the ship is just horribly painted. Is it so hard to draw a straight line? I'd probably do a better job drunk.. There's even an accidental blob of silver paint on one of the black engine exhausts (it's not supposed to be there, it just got there by accident). Shoddy work to say the least.
Frankly, I'd prefer it if they made it a more expensive but quality die cast metal model than this. The paint job really isn't too complex, there's no excuse for this. Bad, bad quality product. I'd probably consider getting the current paintjob off by finely sandpapering it off, but frankly I'm concerned it would just fall apart - it is very fragile.

So any word on what the included code does?

I just got both versions of the Normandy (at Barnes and Noble, all of which are now stocking them, I had a coupon so $25 each.)
